Verizon: $20 Unlimited Line Price Hike Incoming For Those Who Missed November (May 15th)

So basically my wife called first a couple weeks ago was told we'd be charged, I called a week later asking about final billing should we decide to leave and was told I wouldn't be charged. I left bad feedback so a manager would contact me, they did but I was unavailable so had to call back and got a different rep who said they couldn't transfer to or email anyone else at Verizon including that manager. I emailed that manager with this new lack of service too and they never replied or called back again so yesterday called back again. Turns out I was talking to a vendor and apparently their manager has some additional retention capabilities. They have added a "temporary loyalty contract" basically they added a flag to my account so it appears that I'm under contract, nothing changed but the system will see that and I won't get charged the extra $20 since I'm "under contract"

What's your contract end date?

It's open ended the flag will stay on as long as I want it to. There was no paperwork or signatures required I'm still free to leave or change plans anytime if I choose to, not that I'd give up unlimited without one hell of a fight.

Wow....how interesting....well good for you....but I would monitor all this just to make sure your data stays intact...Verizon can be sneaky

For sure this whole thing has been taken with a giant grain of salt, and I'm going to monitor it every month. I hope I was actually able to find that one person that actually cares and legitimately helped but I know Verizon and don't fully trust it until I see it work. In theory it sounds like a winning idea so I'll update here once the next billing cycle hits.

I had the old udp-whatever unlimited plan. they throttled me consistently once I reached 4gig. I gave up and moved to project fi.

You sure you were on Verizon? They don't throttle unlimited LTE plans.

Wow....maybe you were on 3g or had a 3g phone, then yes they would throttle ....you could have upgraded to a 4g phone and be enjoying 4g LTE speeds and literally unlimited goodness lol

That doesn't sound like something Verizon would unless you are using a 3G/EVDO device.

Yep I thought the same but when I had the iPhone 4 and unlim data, I still would use 150 gigs easy per month and never got throttled ....so who knows

They never throttled any of their unlimited data plans. 4GLTE was never subject to network optimization, however 3g was subject to network optimization for a time. Verizon has since stopped any network optimization on 3g I believe last year.

Network optimization is de prioritization during high load levels on that specific tower. Once the high load passes, then it would be lifted.

Throttling is usually a hard cap, over a certain amount, you would be slowed for the rest of the cycle regardless of load.

Any idea where I might be able to look that up or prove they had that?

I swear I saw that same Int'l 100 Plan for Vietnam back in May, when I was setting up a a 3 month SE Asia trip, but now there's no sign of it anywhere online. I called and they said they never offered one in Vietnam but I wouldn't have used their trip planner and not checked their master list of countries for Vietnam before moving here for 2 months. But all I have found so far is this:

Re: Verizon: Another $20 Unlimited Line Price Hike Incoming (May 15th)

And if that plan worked for the people who currently have Verizon unlimited then they would have switched. TMobile gets poor service at my house and at my work, and also I use a lot more than 14gb hotspot on my line (I have the Verizon unlimited hotspot addon).

Speaking of international use, 140 countries sounds great... If it includes the counties that you are going to. Personally I go to Vietnam frequently and tmobile doesn't even offer a data plan.

Verizon offers 100 mb/100 minutes /100 texts for $40 in Vietnam. Which is pricey, but compared to tmobile is still a steal. Based on Tmobile's lowest posted rate on their website, for $40, you can't even get 7 minutes, which would cost you over $40 alone, $41.93 to be exact. . Even if it had data service, it might be through Tmobile's "world class" rates, which exceeds $15,000 per GB(no, that isn't a typo).

Any idea where/how I can prove that they offered this at the time of your post? I found it in May using their Trip Planner tool when putting things in place for a long trip to Vietnam this summer. Now I"m here with a $300 phone bill, no Vietnam listed on their Int'l Plan website and the last Int'l Service person I spoke to is claiming they've never had an agreement in Vietnam. I don't trust them for S***

They don't have an agreement in Vietnam. Which is why it is so expensive. You should have checked this before going, not after.

I know they don't. Now. But as I stated, I DID check before going, using their tool, filtered by Vietnam. Per my post, MOD dpham00 posted something confirming this in April, a month before I found it, hence my question to them.

You should have read more carefully before giving advice.

They did have an agreement up until May/June/July of this year. The agreement has ended.

What I would suggest is that you can email Lowell Mcadam or file a complaint with the BBB. This would get you in touch with Verizon executive relations, who should be able to resolve it. Otherwise, you can file a notice of dispute(process is in the customer agreement l, which would go through Verizon executive relations anyway, and go through small claims or arbitration. Verizon will reimburse you the cost, per the customer agreement
