Verizon Galaxy Nexus (Prime) Waiting Room

3 is more than enough though. Qualcomm, Nvidia, and TI is plenty of options.

That may be true but a 4th that is stronger and faster might be better. Exynos!!! I say the more the merrier, especially when this helps with keeping cost down.

don't forget about Krait - once that thing gets in the mix, it could be lights out for a couple of them.

with all the rumors popping up about release dates for the Bionic, Strat, Vigor, etc i'm really salivating for some more info on the Prime. after the BGR report, i really thought we would start hearing a little more info. i'm still in for the long haul, tho (as long as it's not Bionic-type haul, that is).

Black Man X just gave a cryptic twitter message that was deleted. It said "I Scream, U scream, we all scream, on 11/27." So it sounds like ICS will be coming out late November, and more than likely on this device. His follow us tweet mentioned the LG Optimus, so maybe LG is making this phone.

It could also mean Optimus Prime, hence, the Nexus Prime. LG could still be making the handset though. It all depends on how well Phil's source turns out for the info. Hate to say it, but time will tell.

Glad to see that all this excitement about the newest member of the nexus family.. with all the new devices coming this fall android users will be quite happy.

BMX, maybe/maybe not intentional, but it sounds like you're pretty confident the Prime will be out before the end of the year?? this would make me very happy, and would free up a lot of my time spent on these forums debating what device to get... :) any more insight on the rumored specs??

BMX posted earlier in this thread, quoted above. i tried to coax some more info out of him, but no go. that latest tweet sounds intriguing, and his earlier post about devices "coming this fall" would certainly coincide. but, 11/27 is a Sunday. Black Friday is 11/25, so that would make more sense. not overly thrilled with the idea of it being LG, tho...

Yea, I'm going to have to replace my device well before November, but may buy it out right if it's amazing enough and isn't made by a third rate company like LG who has only had one real hit so far.

i can hold out. my OG is screaming again with Steel Droid 8.0 and PE 6.5! i'm thinking "merry xmas to me!"

I'd be very... unsure whether to get the next Nexus if LG made it. I like to give every manufacturer their fair shot, but I've heard a lot of bad things about LG smartphones.

Also, I be psyched as hell if the Nexus Prime released on 11/27. It'd be like if Google made it to be my birthday present! (My birthday being 11/28) :D

I for sure would be able to hold out, if my damn charge port wasn't giving out. My OG droid just won't cut it if I have to downgrade to it.

get a battery charger that you just plug into the wall. i think amazon has them for about $5-10. i use one to charge my spare battery - works like a charm!

I would rather it be Samsung than LG but Jerry did speak really highly of the LG Optimus 3D. That is sporting a TI OMAP processor too. My birthday is exactly 2 days before yours on 11/26. And your right, what a nice birthday present!!

For the people that are having a hard time grasping a 4.6 inch screen on a phone, I decided to cut out a piece of paper to the exact dimensions of this display, and place it over my Thunderbolt to show how small of a difference it actually is.

There are lots of calculators online that can calculate the exact dimensions of a screen for you, I use this one...

DPI Calculator / PPI Calculator

You can't calculate length and width of a display with just the diagonal length unless you have the aspect ratio or resolution, fortunately we know that this display will mostly likely be 720p (or 720 wide by 1280 tall - in portrait mode that is), so we can easily calculate the exact dimensions of the screen. The cool thing about these calculators too is that if you know the diagonal length and the resolution you can also calculate the pixel density.

Also it's worth mentioning that when comparing displays on two different phones, even when the diagonal length is the same, if they have don't have the same aspect ratio they will have different dimensions, for example the Droid X and Droid X2 (both 4.3 inch) are 16:9 since the resolution is 480 x 854 (Droid X), and 540 x 960 (Droid X2), so those two displays have the same exact dimensions however the Thunderbolt, which is also 4.3 inch, is 5:3 (15:9 if you do the math) since the resolution is 480 x 800, meaning that when you compare the Droid X or X2 with the Thunderbolt you'll notice the display on the Droid X / X2 is actually a bit skinnier and longer (more rectangular) where as the Thunderbolt is a little bit wider and shorter (more square), although the difference isn't as dramatic as it sounds.

So, using the calculator we can find the exact dimensions of the Thunderbolt's display and compare it to the dimensions of the rumored Nexus Prime's display...

Thunderbolt - 4.3 inch, 480 x 800 = 2.21" (W) × 3.69" (H) - with 216.97 ppi

Nexus Prime - 4.6 inch, 720 x 1280 = 2.26" (W) × 4.01" (H) - with 319.26 ppi

So as you can see the difference in length (vertically in portrait) is about .32 inches (4.01 - 3.69) , and the difference in width (horizontally in portrait) is a mere .05 inches (2.26 - 2.21).

Here are the pictures...

With the first picture, I merged two photos with both screens aligned at the top left corner to show the difference in length and width of the screens...

Here I centered the paper more around the bezel to show how much room they could have and still keep the same form factor.

Sorry for the long post..

Appreciate that post. Because of that bigger display, I hope its an edge to edge design and there are any physical buttons. Would make the design much cleaner and compact.

Google has made it pretty clear that, starting with ICS, it will be doing away with physical menu buttons. instead, those menu buttons (menu/home/back/search) will be part of the software and will appear on the screen. so, it is pretty clear (and kitten's calcs make it more clear) that the jump to 4.6" in screen size will not noticeably increase the physical dimensions of the device.

They said it would be optional, and I was under the impression they were speaking of tablets. So they meant Android devices in general? Defiently interested in knowing they pull it off. :)

Man, thanks a lot for that post on the display and the BMX tweet. I just don't know if I can wait until November for a phone that I don't know details about (LED Notification light...NFC?).

I can wait til September for the Bionic/Stratosphere. I may be able to wait til October for the Vigor. But end of November? Every day I look at my OG D1 and wish it were my backup/media device, and not my primary phone.

*sigh*

KittenMittens: Welcome! That was the greatest first post I have ever seen on any forums in my days. Hang around; we need more people like you.

Using your calculator, I figured out the PPI of my enV Touch's screen: 310.98 PPI. WVGA in 3 inches. I hope that we see densities like this from all the upcoming phones!

Very nice KM. Mow all we need are the rest of the specs and a release date. I would like to hear something before I break down and get the Bionic or Function.

Im hoping its not LG, I havent had good experiences with their phones...I would really love it to be HTC because of build quality, however Im going to have to care more about screen technology in this case...and so I would want it to be Samsung, so i can drool over a 720p SAMOLED screen

Wouldnt it be amazing if Google brought all the manufactures together to make one amazing development phone....HTC for design, Motorola for materials, and Samsung for screen technology...now that would be a dream
