Verizon Galaxy Nexus (Prime) Waiting Room

Are there plans to go to Hspa+ (or whatever it's called) and LTE. I heard this is the best config.

LOL. If only, my man, If only.

Yeah, it was just another way of saying "when hell freezes over".

It's very disappointing that the new VZW iPhone may (does?) have global capability but the Android flagships never do.

The GSM version of the nexus went through the FCC with a UMTS and AWS radio, so for the nexus to incorporate all of this into one phone it would need to cram a CDMA, GSM, LTE, UMTS, and AWS radio into one phone, the iphone doesn't support LTE or AWS so it only needs CDMA, GSM, and UMTS, the extra two radios is what makes the difference

Yeah that LTE radio is huge, probably bigger than all of the radios in the iphone put together, there probably just wasn't room, and between LTE and world phone capabilities I'll take LTE

Wish I could say the same. I need a world phone now, and, even with as "future proof" a phone as the Prime, I'll be ready for a replacement by 2013. With my luck that will be just as LTE lights up in my area.

Getting back on topic, would the Prime's LTE radio be able to handle VOLTE when it launches, whenever that may be? Or does that mean a new radio as I suspect?

From what I read several months ago, you can't have LTE and world GSM capabilities on the same phone unless you add another radio chipset to the phone (making it very thick).

The Droid 3 is world phone capable, but not LTE. So is the iPhone. All LTE phones are currently not world phones, and the Nexus Prime appears to be following in that trend. Maybe this will change eventually, but then wont it require two SIM slots in each phone? One for LTE and one for GSM?

Edit, I see that JamesBrown33 beat me to this. Makes me wanna jump back and kiss myself...good lawd!

Anyone know if Verizon will disable the mobile wi-fi hotspot feature on the Galaxy Nexus? If they do, how could it really be a Nexus? I know they want to charge an extra $20/mo for that. But, a Nexus should be able to function without carrier interference with the phone's features (particularly Nexus).

That feature will be gone, count on it. Honestly, it will still be a Nexus. That feature is no longer viable as free, a monastery would charge for that.

Its also the least of my worries with this phone on vzw....

A ha, but this is the reason why a stock-Google Nexus with an unlocked bootloader is so important: anybody can create an AOSP ROM that allows for the wifi-tethering app to work, or maybe even more simply just flash a different kernel version that disables this security measure.
