Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Kitkat update so far.

Re: Verizon Kitkat update so far.

I would think since Kitkat works fine on the Verizon gnp it would be fine on the note 3.they are very similar with hardware, etc.

Re: Verizon Kitkat update so far.

I notice that after update the phone reception went down dramatically. In places where I had 4 bars I now see 2 or even 1 bar. Even when the phone shows 1 bar I get error "No cell signal available". Not sure i this could be fixed.

Yep, me too! Phone reception is horrible. Did the reset and everything seems to run a bit snappier but the reception blows. 1 bar 4g or 3g. Never had that problem before.

When you do the factory data reset and restore using Kies do you have to set up Google and new email, passwords etc. Just like starting from scratch??😨

Re: Verizon Kitkat update so far.

All those people that made post defending Verizon's slow process with the update by making claims that they would rather wait and have all the bugs worked out, than rush an update that's buggy. Well, how's that working out for ya?

I have to admit, after reading all of the negative post concerning the Verizon's version of KitKat I was a little nervous, but after updating the Verizon's Verison of KitKat nine(9) days ago, I'm happy to report that MY Note3 is running exceptional with the KitKat update (kocking on wood) and better than the JellyBean OS that came installed. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. However, I did take precaution before downloading KitKat and almost went back to the original out of box setup by uninstalling apps/widgets/launchers, clearing cache and removing my memory card (I reinstalled almost everything after the update completion process). This precaution might have help. I figured it sure couldn't hurt the update process. Everything is running GREAT.

Yes from everything I understand. Just didn't want to sit for hours doing that. The question is: why should we have to? Really!

I agree, we shouldn't have to, but I've been doing this since my Blackberry 8330 days and it works for ME. Over the years I've noticed that certain apps sometimes have a negative effect on how a device performs and to start over when a new OS (update) is released. Sometimes those apps rear their ugly head and sometimes they don't, so to be on the "safe" side I unistall the ones I think will effect the update. I've been accurate so far and it keeps my devices running great.
The ony device I didn't take precuationary measures with a new update is my iPhone 5s...not sure why.

Re: Verizon Kitkat update so far.

Well I didn't want to do a reset but my phone has been getting steadily worse since the update and as of this morning I couldn't get emails and my battery tanked soooooooo. .. I'm in the process of doing the dreaded reset. My hope is that afterwards my phone will work like my note pro because I quite like kitkat on the note pro. I'm really nervous though because my phone was flawless on Jellybean. *sigh*

You still there. Did you untick most of the Google account options?
Like Spencerdl found, maybe save your sd card to a pc folder or your tablet, reformat it on the phone then hit the Recovery mode reset.
My inkling is to try to leave it empty or just add the basic, dependable apps for a few days and let it settle in on a clean phone. Then add apps you are not sure of later, maybe checking Play store if they have updated for KK. I can afford to not use my phone much for a few days, some can't.
I'm thinking of a 1st reset or else getting another sd card as its constantly showing an sd error when I pick it up, then correcting itself.
A votre plaisir.

I had seen something about the SD card not being usable after the update to kitkat, can anyone confirm or debunk?

Ok, thought I'd share my experience. Two things - I'm certainly no expert, and I'm running the leaked KitKat rom pre rooted. I'm not a heavy rom user but I do like certain apps like Titanium Backup which require root. Anyway, I explicitly followed the recommended instructions for installing this rom and I have zero complaints. I also run Nova Launcher, and turn off extraneous items in the settings which I don't need. I'm not running power saver, and I manually run the brightness fader up or down as I need. One of the items mentioned over at XDA about installing this rom which I think would apply to even OTA's, was to not let Google reinstall apps automatically. I can't recall the reasoning but I can say my last three devices - Droid Bionic, Note 2 and now Note 3 - I've never had any issues with any upgrades. One thing that I do know at least as far as the Bionic was concerned, is the hardware revision was newer on my second Bionic as it was a replacement for launch week device which took a header into the pavement. I'm not aware at the moment if there has been a hardware revision with the Note 3 since launch. Mine was only purchased what, three weeks ago now? Just thought I'd mention it. Also, I'm no app hog by any means, I currently have 53 downloaded apps and probably 20 or so of the stock apps froze in TB, and every app works as intended. No dropped calls, no wifi problems, nothing. No issues at all. Just my report on my experience.:)

After the update, my battery drained twice as fast. I did a wipe from boot and it's been fixed.

I like having the option to select a default text messagenger.

Knock on wood, I have not had a shutdown today. I turned off google+ after the app monitor gave me a couple of warnings. I hope that was the problem. I don't use Google+ so it is no big deal to have it off.
