Verizon getting ripped apart on FaceBook

tbh. I've reached the point I'll probably cancel my preorder. i already have a DInc that I paid full price for last year after my droid 1 fiasco. i just wanted LTE moreso than this phone and the delay games (esp if it's because of skype) make me want to wait for the multicore LTE phones from Htc.

What about the Moto Droid Bionic? That's the one I'm waiting for!

You must not live in (or travel through) rural America very much then if you think all carries have "the same coverage nowadays". HAHA!

Actually, in my last career I traveled this entire country (and a lot of other countries) for 23 years. The one thing I noticed here, is no matter where I went since 1998ish when the cell phones REALLY started coming out is that if VZW had coverage, so did Sprint. There are variables such as VZW won't get coverage in the 2nd bedroom but Sprint does, or Sprint doesn't get coverage in the garage, but VZW does, and I doubt that will ever change as those are caused by environmental anomalies. Anyway, I was talking about towns as a whole. Regardless of that, I now own a house somewhere in Colorado, and VZW and Sprint have the exact same coverage here. (Well, Sprint has 4G coverage and VZW doesn't and won't for a couple of years)

VZW didn't even come out until 1995 (not to be confused with Verizon) and didn't take off until 1999 when they merged with Bell Atlantic and Vodaphone.

Sprint has been around since 1899 and hard-wired most of the country before starting wireless stuff about the same time as VZW.

What's my point? You may have grown up with a cellphone and think they've always been around, but they are still pretty new. As far as rural coverage (I'll assume you mean cornfields in Iowa?) goes, until landowners decide to allow VZW or Sprint to throw up a tower or 2, they won't get coverage. That's the only holdup now. Same with some of the canyons up here. Landowners want money to allow a tower to be placed on their land.

VZW is Now Saying Thursday

My local Verizon Wireless store just told me they have confirmed Thursday as a release date for the Thunderbolt. Has anyone else called their local store to check?

I just called and asked my local VZW (getting one for the wife) and they said they had no information on the Blunderdolt (Thunderbolt) release.

At this point it's blown up so bad-that i will just wait for an official statement and release. Not to discredit what people say they were told or have heard-but there has been so much back and forth over this. At some point you start to get nauseated!

This is really getting absurd. Does anyone have any idea what is going on here!?! You have verizon who posts commercials, then removes them. Leaks release dates and then pulls them back. Announce it'll have skype, now the delays are because of skype.

Then you have bestbuy that announced that they're the exclusive retailer a month ago, posts a thunderbolt page on the website, then pulls it. Now, they put the info page back up, but nobody knows how much the damn thing costs. On the same page, bestbuy has posted flash version of their weekly circular and their march cellular buyers guide. The circular says the phone costs $250 with activation, the buying guide says $300. WTF!?!

I've been waiting a long time to upgrade to a smartphone. I've really needed a new phone for like 4 months, but waited this long because vz announced they were going 4G in OCTOBER. Even worse, I'd really like to take advantage of bestbuy's buyback program, which if free for like 4 more days, that will give me $150 for my thunderbolt in 2 yrs when my contract expires.

Is there any end in sight to this fiasco?

This may be true in a lot of places, but I think the issue goes to the carrier in other places. I know it doesn't hold true for my area. There is literally 0 Sprint coverage anywhere in my county, 0 T-mobile, AT&T just moved in and has decent coverage but the county next door has nothing for them either. T-mobile and Sprint get nothing, and Verizon has probably twice what AT&T does in the area.

Really if you live anywhere in Southwest VA, Northeast TN, or Southeast KY, Verizon is almost your only choice of carrier...

Maybe I'm wrong on this, but doesn't/didn't Spring and VZW have roaming agreements set for most areas? I know Alltel did with VZW and where I'm at in Nebraska were running both providers off of one network, except in a few counties. I realize that Alltel was/is a regional carrier, and not quite national, whereas Sprint is national.

Called my bestbuy in greece ny and they said the date was 24th and they were in the process of calling customers who preordered to let them know it may be the 28th. He said one of two of those dates should be the launch ........

I know for a while Sprint and VZW used the same towers in most places I was at, so I think it's safe to say they had a roaming agreement set for usage. Sprint doesn't have "roaming" anymore (at least it's free) which is another nicety. I don't know if Verizon still charges for roaming or not. They were in 2003. Verizon/Sprint on the same network in Nebraska makes sense for both of them. It's flat, so they enter an agreement and don't fight over coverage which is why Nebraska is totally covered in both the VZW and Sprint maps. The interesting places are like here where there are mountains and tower placement is everything.

If the release date is really set for the 24th or 28th, then why no announcement? They have nothing to gain by withholding that info because everyone is pissed that theres no release date yet.

My thoughts exactly. My gut is and has been telling me they will FINALLY give us a release date on the 24th and it will end up being March 3rd..

this is hilarious

I agree ...lol..it has gotten just a little out of hand..i understand people being frustrated with the whole thing but why be so angry about it? Its just a phone..more will come.lol.like an earlier poster put it.."get an iphone" lol..not that there's anything wrong with that.

I mean.....wow.....is it that major? Ripping VZW on Facebook? Wanting to start petitions? All this.......for a phone???????

Not something of REAL importance, but a phone.

I mean don't me wrong, I was thinking of checking it out and maybe getting it myself. But it's not worth all the Facebook ripping that everyone is doing lol.

But, hey, I guess what some people feel is important others don't.

Well the facebook thing is hilarious because people have been doing it for the past 2 days like non stop, at first VZW was removing comments and eventually gave up. They still remove some comments though.

LOL

"it's just a phone"

For some of us that sounds like what Drew Barrymoore's character said in Fever Pitch: "it's just a game"

Yeah, I know it is ridiculous ...all the facebook anger and all that ..though I have not done anything like that I can feel the frustration myself. VZW and BBY should not have jumped the gun and made announcements of probable dates when the phone was not ready. BBY's official statement had earlier said the phone would be released in "min-February". Had it not been for that, this whole thing would not have gone so out of hand.

Hey, anybody know when the Thunderbolt is coming out? I can't go on living without knowing! If they don't announce something soon, I'm going to call Obama and demand he tell Verizon to make an announcement! This phone will change my life...forever! I MUST KNOW WHEN IT WILL BE RELEASED!

LOL

I see what you did there.
