Verizon is giving me a headache

I don't think this is a direct radio to tower issue. The radio seems to turn off and in Verizon's system its a Code 2 or in other words the person on the other end hung up. However, we know this isn't true now that Verizon representatives also lost me 5 times today. Anything would be an improvement sadly.
Sadly, the GNote3 won't be an improvement. If you keep bugging Verizon you will get your GNote3 because they have to provide you with a device that can make/sustain phone calls or let you out of your contract, but don't expect an improvement. And you will have to make so many phone calls it may not be worth your time. At the end of the day, there is no way a Samsung phone will outperform a Motorola phone if the problem is the radio.

My GNote3 signal is no better in my area than my GNex signal. Samsung radios are crap.

I don't have that experience. My note 2 signal was better than my Droid razr maxx. Note 3 is about the same as well.

Are you in a strong signal area or a weak signal area? My GNex and my GNote3 are great in a strong signal area. It is the weaker areas where they falter.

I don't know. My Note II had better signal readings than my Droid RAZR Maxx HD had. The Galaxy S series I'll agree with you though. For the record Verizon doesn't feel obligated because my contract is over. They kept telling me I'm eligible for an upgrade and that's my option or I can "Live with it".

yeah, ironically, if you are under contract, you actually have more leverage because they either have to provide you with a device that given the service in your area can make phone calls or let you out of your contract without having repaid them for the subsidized phone you now own and they can't take away.

Exactly so I am most likely at a cross road with then. I either live with the issues or spend the money, lose unlimited data and sign a contract. Or use Edge. Really not a lot of great options but there is nothing I can do except the above or leave.

You can add a line to your individual plan and make it a family plan and then use the extra line for upgrades. How many minutes do you currently have on your individual plan? Do you have and need unlimited texting?

900 and yes I have and need texting. However, I've considered the line option in the past but decided against it. I just find it funny that all of my issues come within days of my contract ending but in no way am I saying that has anything to do with it.

I've had a frustrating day. 5 dropped calls while talking to Verizon alone and its still not a "big deal". Even drops are considered in the "Category 2" which means they hung up on me even though I lose the service. So frustrating.

Well the problem is that if you are not under contract to them, they have no legal obligation to provide you with service any longer. You can walk away at any time but so can they once the contract expires.

I understand this completely and its why I'm not pushing them any further. I've given up and because I refuse to lose unlimited data without an incentive I either have go deal with it or leave. Only time will tell though. I did try and say I'll sign a contract and drop unlimited data if I could get even $100 off the Note 3 plus the upgrade fee waived but all they would budge with was the fee so I declined. So that failed.

I may not like it but I may be TMobile bound. I'll be calling the number given to me for a higher up and if that fails than I guess my decision is simple.

The GNote3 is not likely to be a solution for your signal problems. Once I get my Moto X, I will do speedtests and post the data. I can tell you now the GNote3 is no better than the GNex in my "known trouble area". Both work great, actually fantastic, in a strong signal area.

I'm not in a bad signal area though. Verizon doesn't even call these dropped calls but rather loss of service. Its not the tower. The cellular radio is actually rebooting itself from the looks of it. I had a Galaxy Note II and never once had a dropped call. I've had nearly 30 in 3 weeks starting in November. The update ruined my phone. No issues beforehand.

OK, I see what you are saying. The last update my GNex got ruined my bluetooth. But that is a Google problem, not a verizon problem. It is also part of the reason why verizon is heavy handed with google. Google puts out beta software all the time and verizon has to pay the price for that.

My GNex has been end of lifed by GOOGLE, not verizon and the last update literally, effed up the bluetooth. That is on google, not verizon.

Agreed, but it wasn't until today we agreed it was the device. However, if it doesn't work properly than it's worthless no matter who's at fault. Motorola once again said they have no idea what I'm talking about and I can send it in and be without a phone for a week. Not that I'd get a working phone back though so I declined. You can't fix it if every replacement does the same thing. It must be software if its not Verizon.

Wow this just amazes me. Verizon charges the premium price yet does nothing for customer service. Regardless of contract or not you should get good customer service.. You still pay a monthly bill.

That's just bull S....

I agree considering I'm asking to remedy an issue that they have confirmed and one would think it must be a phone issue given they the error code on their end says I don't drop calls but the person on the other line does. I've dropped calls talking to Verizon so unless they hung up on me 5 times yesterday and called back each time then they know what's going on.

Ah well we shall see where it goes from here today. Doubtful anything happens since I won't be making any calls other than to the higher up but still. I left a message with the executives office so I'll be awaiting a reply.

Verizon doesn't want customers who have unlimited data anymore so they are not making it easy for us to keep it. If you have unlimited data and are having problems with your phone, they will offer you an early upgrade. But if you take it, you lose unlimited data. They will give you 6GB of data for the same price as your unlimited data, though.

I'm pretty new to Android, I don't know much about rooting, and I realize that this may not be something you want to do, but can you root the phone and put a different ROM on it? Is there a way to go back to the previous version of the software before the update?

I'm aware of this and against my best judgment I tried. However, I asked for a compromise since the phone is still rather new ($100 off a Note 3) and they declined. My fault for trying and expecting too much I guess. This would have been a bad idea for me because I use Netflix/Hulu for about an hour or a little less a day and stream Google Play Music throughout the workday.

I could but I believe the Motorola phones track roots even if you revert back.

They do but there is a way to clear it. I think the process can be found on the XDA site. It is worth a try and if it doesn't work, you can get a replacement Droid Maxx.
