Verizon raising the price for Unlimited Data Plan by $20 after November 15, 2015

This is what I don't quite understand. I thought I understood that the subsidy is built in.
I am paying $60/mo now for 450min+unlimited data. $30/mo is for the unlimited data. That was the price that allowed me to get a subsided phone.

I remember when they stopped offering unlimited, the price for 2gb was $30/mo. Now when I look, the price is still $30/mo for 2gb. I get the option to do a 2yr contract and get a lower price on the phone, or I can go without contract, pay full price, but the price is still $30/mo for 2gb. So as far as I can tell, there is no connection between the plan cost and the amount I pay for the phone.

You get a subsidized phone when you sign a new 2-year contract (for one of their new plans). With such a 2-year contract, you pay a $40/mo. device charge for your smartphone.

You get no phone if you just sign up for one of their new plans. But the device charge is only $20/mo.

The $20 extra per month you pay over the two-year contract is $480 more to Verizon, which lets them give you this subsidized price. It's a wash. There's no free lunch.

Bottom line is even with price increase it is still my best option. Other providers don't give me the reception I want and other VZW plans don't give me the data I use without paying even more than I will with the price increase.

Adios Verizon. I feel liberated. Sold my udp for $475, signed up with Cricket(10gb for $55), & have better 4g lte using my Verizon Note 3. Happily, ATT has better signal in my area than Verizon, too. I used 10gb data on average, never turning on wifi.

The still have to "officially" notify you if any changes to your plan 30 days prior. Official does not mean mass media or internet info services. It has to be with your bill. That's the only "official" notification they can use

My billing date is the 15th, and I got the notification on my last bill.

On the first page, there was a box that said:

"Verizon Wireless News
Unlimited Data Feature Price
Increase
The price of Unlimited Data Features will
increase starting Nov. 15, 2015. Please
see the "Important Message Regarding
Your Bill" on the Need-to-Know
Information page of this bill for details."

And this on the last page:

"Important Message Regarding Your Bill
Thank you for being a Verizon customer. Continuing to provide unlimited
data features at their previous price, which is based on data usage
patterns from 2011 and before, is no longer sustainable. We are adjusting
our price for unlimited data features to better reflect the current reality of
the demand for data driven by video and application use.
Because of this, starting on November 15, 2015, we are increasing the
price of each unlimited data feature by $20/month. If any of your lines
with an unlimited data feature are currently on a two-year contract, the
increase will not begin until you complete your contract term or enter into
a new one.
If you no longer want an unlimited data feature at the new price, you can
choose one of our new highly-competitive Verizon Plan options, with
Small (1GB), Medium (3GB), Large (6GB) and X-Large (12GB) sizes
available. And for a limited time, we're offering the best value with an
XX-Large (18GB) size designed for heavy data users. To learn more about
your current usage and plan options, please call us at 800-890-0084 or
visit www.vzw.com."

This chart shows their problem and our problem.

My billing cycles on the 7th...

I just don't know if

A. On November 15 the system will begin auditing accounts DAILY as each cycles.. Any account with UDP that is off contract boom 20 dollars increase OR

B. on Nov 15 all accounts with UDP and off contract will get an increase of 20 dollars that will show up in their next billing cycle.

Will they take the extra $20 off if you get back on contract (like via Transfer Upgrade to Tiered Data Plan line) after this goes into effect?

My plan renews on the 20th each month (tomorrow), I usually get my bill on the 22nd. I haven't heard anything from Verizon about the increase, but I imagine the bill I'll receive in a few days will have a notice, as the bill I'll pay on Nov 22nd will be higher.

I called Verizon last week and they confirmed the price increase. I complained (obviously) and they offered a $20 credit, so at least I'll pay $20 less on this bill to help offset the first $20 increase.

I'm currently testing T-Mobile with a new phone number and my spare phone, so far (in the CA Bay Area/Central Coast at least) the coverage is very competitive with Verizon, and they haven't yet turned on band 12 in my area, so that'll make it even better. If I could afford to stick with VZW I would, but T-Mobile would save me about $400/year, and that's too much money to ignore.

I just received my Verizon bill today and there was no mention of the price increase.
