Good morning, everyone!
I also recently acquired a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3. I am still undecided as to whether or not I will continue with my current AT&T StraightTalk SIM (currently being used in an iPhone 4) or switch over to Verizon service. StraightTalk offers me unlimited talk/text and "data" for $45/mo prepaid - but seems to slow data after around 2GB of usage - and Verizon offers a single-line plan of unlimited talk/text and 1GB of 4G LTE data for $65/mo - but I'm concerned about data overages.
In any case, the APN settings I found in this thread were not helpful in my particular situation, however elsewhere on the web I found the following settings which allowed me to send/receive MMS/Picture messages and use data. Perhaps this will help others:
Name: StraightTalk
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
Port: <Leave Blank>
Username: <Leave Blank>
Password: <Leave Blank>
Server: <Leave Blank>
MMSC:
http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: mms2.tracfone.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: <Leave Blank>
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN Protocol: Leave it set to default
I still have three weeks of my prepaid StraightTalk service left and my Verizon SIM is supposed to be arriving today via USPS ready to activate on the $60/month plan.
My own question is this: I notice in the Mobile Network settings that the Galaxy S3 shows non-editable frequency settings, and (perhaps unrelated) my call quality was very poor using the ST AT&T SIM in comparison with the quality I've been getting on my iPhone 4. Is it possible that the Verizon SIM slot - intended to be used for data services only - is not really meant to support voice/calling services, and hence my call quality will never improve?
Thank you in advance for any information anyone can provide regarding the switch from Verizon CDMA voice service to ST GSM, and I hope the information I found on the internet regarding APN will be helpful to others in getting MMS/Data working on your S3's.
