Verizon 'significantly altering' unlimited data?

Renewed my contract to try to keep unlimited data

So, after all the news about Verizon booting unlimited data customers that use over 100GB, I decided to renew my 2 year contract by upgrading the phone I use on that line. I bought the new Moto Z for $1 on Bestbuy just to renew my contract in hopes that they won't be able to make me change to a tiered plan. Any thoughts on that idea? Since the price increase, they allowed unlimited users to use a phone upgrade without changing plans. I figure they will either let me stay on unlimited for the 2 years or force me to change anyways and I get a free phone out of the deal. On a side note, if I'm forced off of unlimited, I will no longer stay with Verizon. Project Fi is my next stop.

They won't touch people in contract.

Except it is explained elsewhere by someone that it is an aggregate so if your account has 3 lines and you are not at 300GB total then none of your lines are affected. It may be because you can't have two types of plans on one account? Since I have an old Nationwide 700 plan they may not be able to convert just one line to a Verizon plan.

My bill dropped today and no notice in it. No other letter yet either.

It's per line. You can have multiple plans on one account.

The limited access isn't there -- hence why they didn't throttle. They're simply saying "We don't owe this to you anymore so swap or move on". Nothing new from any other company who doesn't offer a benefit anymore. If there is no contract anymore saying they owe it .. they technically don't have to. If they DO offer it for awhile it was out of the companies own will / decision.

There is a "contract"--if you can call it that--between Verizon and the FCC: if you buy the 700 MHz spectrum, you don't get to limit customers' access to this network. I see what you're saying and it'll probably a part of Verizon's legal argument if it comes to that--there's no contract between out-of-contract customers and the carrier--but are they in compliance with the FCC "contract" when they do this?

Yes, both in the argument you're describing and in the spirit of the agreement. They have to honor access to those who have plans to access it. They definitely get to choose whether or not to offer that plan and for users that are not in contracts with Verizon, they can cancel that plan at any time. For those that are in contracts with Verizon, they can cancel it but they have to forsake any benefit on their end to the contract in order to do so.

Exactly. They aren't limiting it -- they are saying "We no longer want to offer this". There is a HUGE difference in "We aren't giving this anymore" to "We are giving this but with strings attached".

Ok so I got my letter in the mail today from Verizon... :-(
I started off as an Alltel customer and then when Verizon bought alltel, I became their customer...all together a combined 18 years between the 2 companies and now it's coming to an end. I feel so lost @ this point ...maybe I'll just let the service go all together and be done with it. I just don't know what to do at this point ....what other cell company has coverage and signal strength comparable to vzw?? Not to mention , my precious unlimited unthrottled data along with my hotspot is leaving ....I'm sick @ this point ...

You mean letter as in the post office? Or by email? Was it essentially the same letter posted before?

Can you take a snapshot of it?

It's being reported on Howard Forums that some people using unlimited data sims in a router/jetpack are having an Internet Block placed on their line, without any prior notice. UDP just got an "Internet block."

Is using a plan/SIM intended for a smartphone in a data-only device authorized?

Verizon has said that you can put the Verizon 4GLTE sim into any Verizon 4GLTE certified device.
