Verizon vs att

My wife and I have a shared plan for 15gb of data with rollover. We never come close to using the 15gb so I figure the rollover is perfect for setting up a hotspot for our Nexus 7's when we go on vacation. With our corporate discount and paying for 2 phones it totals out to $105/month with unlimited talk and text. I'm fine with that.

My wife and I were going to switch from AT&T to Verizon. After looking at our options, research, and phone calls, we ended up going with T Mobile. 4 lines, 2.5gb 4gLTE unlimited per line, for $100/mo. Plus, I get a fed employee discount of 15% too.

T Mobile is rapidly expanding their coverage. From what i have understood, they bought a bunch of Verizon towers, and by the end of this year, their coverage will nearly DOUBLE. I will try to find that map and post it on here.

I'm in DFW as well, McKinney to be precise and I do not get calls at my house, only data...that is the weirdest thing. I'd just get voicemails from people saying I didn't pick up their calls. Called support and call got dropped like 4 times driving on 121 highway from Frisco to McKinney. Now we're with Verizon.

Damn...I'm in Allen so that doesn't bode well. Its my only phone,no home or office line so it has to be dependable. I have to pay for new phones and convince the family to move to verizon

My buddy lives in Allen off of 75 and McDermott and he is happy with T-Mobile, only because he pays very little and moved to Google Voice a while back. He gets calls on laptop and what not at home and work so it's like having multiple devices for same line. You may be able to test drive the T-Mobile network but our experience was pretty bad last year when we tried out T-Mobile. It may have changed or may not but who knows. I feel like getting a call in this day and age should not be an issue for any carrier, you know?

On the other hand, Verizon Android phones have mother of load jank. I've had every high end Android phone and I keep going back to 6+ since I get 2 day battery and not as much jank. I wish I could use T-Mobile's cleaner phones but their network. I tried AT&T with international phones too for a while but they jack something up where my data would be super slow even with LTE plan.
I know it sounds like I'm hating on all carriers but every single one has pros and cons for the most part. Just see what works best for you.

I think I am leaning towards putting my son by himself on cricket wireless and keeping the other 3 of us on att. The girls don't want to move. My son is the data hog.

Ok, I am missing the boat or something here......seems like everyone is paying so much less than me on Verizon. Granted, I do have 2 grandfathered Unlimited Data Lines and 2 dumb lines and I am paying $215.88/month! I do get subsidized phones......every 2 years or so. I have always been very conscious of how much data I use, even though I don't have to be.....

That's a good call too. With Cricket, I think you can still get AT&T service but data will go to Edge after certain GBs, I *think*.

After the high speed allotment runs out, data drops to 128 KB. :) I've been on Cricket over a year and I'm happy with it.

These maps are not 100% accurate at the micro level.
I've tried 3 times in the last year to switch to T-Mobile. Their detailed map even shows coverage at my exact house.
I have a 2 block radius around my house where I get NO T-Mobile signal at all, No bars, phone dead.
AT&T has a very strong signal.
The last time I tried switching I called T-Mo tech support again and finally got hold of a tech that was good.
He poked around a bit and discovered that T-Mo did NOT have a roaming agreement with the AT&T tower that was closest to where I lived, which is why I have a strong AT&T signal and no T-Mo signal.
Here in Tucson, T-Mobile is very spotty.

Here is the T Mobile map I mentioned.

So Verizon offers a 10gb plan for 80 bucks but also has a promo 10gb plan to go with it? I can't find that deal anywhere.
I was hoping to be eligible for this great deal too but sadly not avail in FL. Only parts of Texas and Louisiana.

They also are giving $300 for your phone.
Are you sure that's for your phone? Or is that for you ETF?

As for tethering, I believe Verizon adds about $20/line/month for that. So your $80 + 4X15 is now $80 + 4X15 + 4X20, which is $220/month.

And Verizon service in the store, if you have a problem with the phone, can't hold a wet match to AT&T's Device Support Centers. (I don't know about AT&T's phone support, I go into the store for everything, even for what phone customer service can handle, but I do know that Verizon phone customer service is iffy. Sometimes you get a rep who actually knows how to help you, sometimes you get a rep who can't spell 'a' without someone doing it for him. (They replaced the wrong phone on an order with ... the same wrong phone. Three times. And the store can't do anything, that has to be done over the phone, since the phone was bought online.)

AT&T replaced a defective phone for me - even though it was bought at Best Buy. And apologized for having to do it and making me do a restore of all my backups.

Att doesn't give two craps and offers nothing to keep a 20 year customer.
I don't know about that. I started with a 5GB plan that was $40/line. They soon offered me 10GB and $15/line (IOW, I wasn't paying for the phones any more). And they dropped the price on the basic plan by $30/month. I've switched plans now, but I'm waiting for the next "go to this site and double your data" text. All with a one month data rollover.

These maps are not 100% accurate at the micro level.
The maps are fantasies. They're not made by driving around, yelling "can you hear mew now", they're calculated by computer model. Sometimes the models aren't at all accurate. (Sprint, in this town, doesn't model knife-edge shadows, so my daughter's entire house is one huge dead spot - right in the middle of their "everything is solid coverage" area.) And I've found "dead spots that were covered by reflections from water towers, steel buildings, all sorts of things. (I've been in this busi9ness since you had to scream for the mobile operator when you wanted to place a call from your car - no dialing out yet.)

I use the maps for only one thing these days - if you're looking for a Straight Talk phone, the color of the map tells you what carrier that phone is on. That's accurate. The rest is fantasy.

But we're going to see more and more "come to us and we'll give you that and pay your ETF" offers - the cutthroat business has become a machine gun driveby hit business. We want faster speeds (I don't know why - other than speed tests, most downloads still run about 2mbps), which means more very expensive equipment on thousands of towers, and more coverage in more places, which means more towers, so they all need all the customers they can get.

It's a buyer's market, though - call the retention department of your current carrier and tell them that you're going to leave them, because your new carrier is offering a much better deal and will pay the ETF - and they'll probably match which ever carrier's deal you talking about. (Want to cut your AT&T bill in half? No need to go to Sprint, just threaten to go to Sprint.)

I have you beat. I have 4 lines (all smartphones) and right at 250 with taxes. It's crazy - gonna have to make some changes soon.
