VZW Killing Unlimited Plans (Finally)

Well if that's the case then Verizon's $50/month unlimited prepaid plan would be the best option for everyone.

If it continued to exist as-is.

I'm guessing if your eligible for an upgrade and just with a regular plan not "LOCKED" in to a contract as part of an upgrade, meaning you can cancel at anytime without penalty they could say the service that we are providing is no longer available. Move to one of our new plans.

But if you are locked in to a contract where you can't leave of X amount of months, can they change the service provided and amount you pay for that. Hypothetical unrealistic example to show a point could they the month after you get in a contract say you now only get 1gig for $200 a month sorry that's what we offer and your still stuck with it?

I have no problems with I signed on the line for 2 years and the month after my two years is up having to decide on a current plan. I could choose to stay with one of their plans or go with someone else. What I do object to is them saying your still locked in and we're changing what you get and your rates.

I'm not talking nutz here, normally I'm about 500meg-1gig a month. Tried the 4g video the other day just to see it. Will do that more on wifi because of battery anyways but just wanted to see it done. Now in 5 day's I've used up 750 meg. I'll realistically be 1.2-.4 by the end of the month but still. More of the principal of the thing. Say I wanted to go on a trip and watch Netflix in the airport while waiting. Kinda defeats the purpose of having high speed if you can't actually use it.

Maybe they'll have you get X gig a month but you roll over unused to the next month up to a certain cap or something. If the stated goal of this is to get all your devices on the same data plans they need to give enough room for that to happen. I'm not going to roll a tablet in too a 2gig phone plan. Their just not enough room bandwidth wise to cover several devices on the same pool unless they up the plan limit by a decent amount.

For me a smartphone is a hobby.I will leave vzw regardless if its true.If I cant find another plan on another carrier that keeps me at my current price then its hello dumb phone .

That's the other thing I was thinking of. Just cancel the data portion of the plans. Use just the minutes on the phone. When you are at work or home with Wifi or one of the multitude of hot spots around use Wifi and just drop mobile data all together. Personally I use it at work communicate with the other techs with gtalk. We can do that fine with Wifi and same with email.

Except you can't activate a smartphone with out a "data pak".

Ohh well guess it's a dumb phone then with a mini tablet. I saw today several of them them are in the works Phablets I think they were referred to.

In the end it's all gonna come down to competition. They will have to offer a service at a price point that's competitive to what others are offering. If not they loose customers. If they give a package with 10gig or so for a family plan where you can get the wife and kids on there for a reasonable price then cool. If not it's shop for new carrier time. It's not hard. We'll just have to see what they offer.

Still gonna be pissed if they force a change mid term though.

I hope they do this I can cancel my plan for free. On the papers it says you can cancel your plan if any price on your bill have changed cuz of them

Nope. This takes effect when you sign a new contract and does not affect you until your current one expires.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't we all moving to VoLTE in the future for making calls? So in a sense we'll be paying double?
Edit: just saw the volte topic, moving over there.

This is the one time Verizon will give a release date in advance and not delay it.

I too will fight and say the contract is broken if they change aspects of it. Then I can upgrade to a new phone at any time.

Unfortunately, I will get the shortest end of the bargain as my grandfathered Alltel plan (I wonder if that means anything) is better than anything Verizon has. I have 10 friends and family, free nights at 7, unlimited texts and data for $89. Fat chance they'll just only limit my data and keep everything the same.

They will tell you they are changing the contract. They can't unilaterally change the contract you already have, even if they word it that way. You will have to assent to the changes somehow. (It might be something like, use your phone after this date and you will effectively have assented to the changes). If you want to get out of your existing contract because they have made changes, you can. By changing your contract without your assent, they have breached the contract (they promised to do something, now they are breaking their promise and doing another thing). On the grounds of this breach, you can have recission (get out of your contract obligations - to pay, to pay an etf if you terminate etc).

You will probably have to yell at a customer service manager on the phone for an hour + to get it done tho. :)

im curious... everyone is worried about losing their unlimited data and what not...

If im not mistaken... Sprint offers unlimited data, voice, and text far less than what Vzw is offering. I i mean, if vzw takes away my unlimited data, im switching over to Sprint. A few of you mentioned TMobile but no one mentioned Sprint. Is their service really that bad? Or Am i missing something?

For the love of god people, read the links! You WILL NOT be able to get out of your current contract because this only applies WHEN YOU UPGRADE TO A NEW PHONE AND SIGN A NEW CONTRACT!! They are not changing the terms of ANYTHING!

We're not sure what the real plan is.

It just depends on where you are. When I lived in Vegas, Sprint had great coverage. They were good in Lexington KY as well. Now I live in very rural southern Ohio about an hour southeast of Cincinnati. Neither Sprint nor T-Mobile even have towers in the area, it is ATT or VZW. Coverage is pretty much a YMMV situation depending on your service area. If Sprint or t-Mobile were options in my area, I'd jump in a heartbeat when my contract is up.

Sprint will pay for your early termination fee, I just switched to sprint from Verizon and love it, not to mention saving alot of money.
