VZW offering up to 50% off Pixel 2 and XL

couldn't hold off, just traded in my fading v10 on a 2 XL....hoping I can live without the 2nd battery :(

Does anyone know if the Pixel Black Friday deal last year also applied to the larger memory version, or was it just for the base model? Just curious if they run it again whether people will have the option to get the 128GB version with the deal (or at least pay the difference.)

Thanks in advance!

I got my Droid Turbo 2 on Black Friday in 2015. I'm hoping for a Pixel 2 deal this year now that mine is paid off. Only problem is my phone is never on the trade-in list. So far Verizon offered $60 and Best Buy $68. I'm hoping for a flat rate deal on a trade in or some other straight up price reduction for Black Friday.

Pretty sure it was just base model. So you'd get a bill credit of $XX and be responsible for the remainder. Still not a bad deal.

I got my DT2 free on that black Friday, and then traded for a free pixel last year. You probably won't qualify for free pixel 2, but a nice discount for sure. My DT2 was like $160 trade in to Verizon last year, but on black Friday they upped it.

VZW not infrequently offers $100-200 trade on "any phone" promos during the year. Just thave to keep your eyes/ears open.

You can ask a rep. They sometimes have told me if there's a new promo coming up soon. Not all the time, but I've had a few of them tell me that "well, on the 23rd such and such will be happening".

Any idea how it works if you pay it off early?

You lose out on the remaining credit verizon owes you. The way I look at it you would get around 250 if you only kept it a year and upgraded. Assuming you get the 64gb xl that is. For me I wouldn't get much more on swappa for my S7 so not too bad. I'm still holding out hope for a better black Friday deal

Well the V20 trade in offer looks more inviting then what Google was offering but if that's the case where you pay off the phone you lose the rest of the credit then I'm not buying into it. I don't understand why they do that if you remain a customer but I guess I figure the advantage is that they know you're locked in. I bought my phone through Google so I would have to return it and lose out on the mini so it's really not that great an incentive anyway except that I bought the Google out right and didn't make payments. I was going to keep the V 20 anyway but maybe I'll take a look at swappa again, I know they're not offering much for it.

It seems to be their way of bringing back contracts but not calling it one.

Yeah...except I hope they warn people as someone attempts to pay it off that they will lose their credit. I wonder if that still holds true if you are buying another phone on the payment plan when you pay it off but that's a whole nother topic

It's a new and crafty way to make money. Most people aren't smart enough to realize that they most likely won't keep the phone for the full period and that they lose the benefit by paying the phone back early. It's scams like this that really make me hate those that 'earn' a living in consumer marketing. It's all about lying to pry money away from those that don't understand math.

No. You lose the benefit outright. It just resets for the new phone. It's a total, boldface scam to prey on the financially challenged (I mean those that, for example, don't understand the concept of the time value of money).

Scam? Really? You are not forced to take advantage of these offers. Most people are happy keeping a phone for 2 years and taking advantage of these deals.

Scam? Really? .

Scam may be too harsh a term, because all of the information is out there. But they've structured the program in such a way that it's a no lose proposition for the multi-billion $ Corporation. It "feels" like a scam though, because of how opaque they've made it:

Keep in mind that these upgrade decisions typically occur a year after the original purchase. VZW knows that consumers won't even think about it. I caught it when I got ready to upgrade and noted that I still owed 50% on the old phone at the 12 month point. That's when it occurred to me that I still had 50% of my bill credit outstanding and I'd forfeit that. I have chosen to buy the 2 XL outright and continue with my payments on my XL. That way I will receive the full benefit of the $200 trade-in I used for the XL.

What they should do is be explicit:

"To upgrade, pay off the full value of your phone today. Note that this will forfeit any remaining credits that had been applied to the phone's original purchase price"

I got an iPhone 7 early this past year for a straight across trade for my older iPhone 6s. It was explained to me from the beginning that should I leave before the 2 years was up I'd be responsible for the prorated, remaining cost. I'm not leaving verizon(best coverage, where would I go?) so it was a win/win for me. One just needs to know the details of any deal.

My point exactly. As long as they tell you, the customer, in clear terms, it ain't no "scam".....

It is not a scam any way you look at it. This seems like a good offer to save on a pixel 2. If after 1 year you get the itch, pay it off. At least you saved 50% of the 50%.

Something annoying about the BF deal is that any change to your account that modifies your account number will drop the promo from your account. For example, if you want to be the account owner on your family plan, but someone else has to give it to, you lose promo. If you want to modify your account to be a sub account, you lose your promo. Once it's gone, you will not get it back, so keep that in mind. I tried leaving my family plan, but they said I'd lose the promo. I told them I was staying a VZW customer, but it didn't matter.
