VZW Share Everything Plans

I have to admit, there are a lot of panic comments here.. The simple answer is, you don't have to change a thing. You are "not" being force to switch to this plan. If you have unlimited data you keep it, if you are upgrading to the "subsidized" S3 ( like I know a lot of you are..) just do it by the 28th. If you are not upgrading like me ( waiting on the G-Note 2 ) nothing changes. And when my phone comes out all I will have to do is pay "Retail Price" for it and I keep my unlimited data through my contract ( July 2013 ) and "after" my contract.. Purchasing phones at retail prices your plan stays the same.. "forever" If you could afford it, you could change phones every month if you wanted to pay retail.. After June 28th though, any subsidized phone "will" yank you off your unlimtied data plan.. period.. Any phone you buy retail after June 28th will not.. This new structure will benifit some, and increase cost for others, it's a case by case basis situation but suprisingly, it not that bad of a deal for 2 lines / 6 gigs on the best 4G LTE out there.. Ya gotta pay to play with the best :)

Verizon just lost me as a customer. These new plans will cost me over $30 more per month for less. Ridiculous.

Re: How are you guys pre-ordering and keeping your unlimited?

Thanks. Looks like my instincts to not complete the order were right. I'll probably visit my local store this week to get the order done.

I came to same realization as you, with an extra $100/month (5 lines) compared to what I'm paying now I figure I'm ahead to pay retail or buy used phone off Craigslist or Ebay. $2,400 additional in "data charges" over 24 months gives me almost $500 to put towards each phone, plus I keep unlimited. However we will still be paying more overall. I'm waiting for some serious competitor to VZW to step up.

Returned my HOX when I found out that Phoenix's LTE does not cover my metro area (East and SE) and was looking at the S3 UNTIL Verizon's price hike!

I checked out both Verizon's news site as well as starting an order with Verizon so I could see exactly what this means for me both before the new rates and when they go into affect.

I ordered the minimum $39.99 Talk 450 plan and the minimum Data with Mobile Hotspot, 4GB for $50. - - $89.99 month. Before today, I had planed on dumping my COX $54 month internet and tether my laptop so I was willing to pay $90 month but for 4GB data not 1 as in the new plan:

http://solutions.vzwshop.com/shareeverything/pdf/verizon_share_everything_plan_details.pdf

Smartphone = $40. Equivalent 4GB = $70! I would need to reduce to a tiny 1GB for $50 to equal what I was originally looking at, $90 per month. *But* 1 GB just won't do it!

This new data plan clearly favors the rich - - 10GB = $100 or $10 per GB yet 1 GB = $50! It is indeed highway robbery.

And what is still not clear to me, after reading all their official figures, sub-texts and footnotes, is whether or not I will have to pay an additional $20 for tethering my MAC Book Pro. Remember, they charge by data usage PLUS by device! In the PDF, it says:

Mobile Hotspot is included on all capable devices BUT "Jetpack / Netbooks / Notebooks /USB's" are $20 month (in addition to the $40 per month for Smartphones, $30 per month for "basic" phones and $10 per month for Tablets AND whatever data plan you buy.

DATA IS DATA. WTF should they care how I use it?

That would raise my new Smartphone rate to $110 per month for that same 1GB! To get the 4GB I was originally looking at would cost me $70 + $40 for smartphone and data PLUS $20 for laptop = $130! A 44% increase over my original $90. :'(

A 44% price increase for any company for any reason is simply a FOOLISH business decision, even in good economic times. VZW stock went up 38 cents today to $42.94 but I hope that by the end of the week they go the way of Netflix and other greedy monsters. Last year Netflix was $304 per share and now it is $60.

First.. This is a SHARE plan for people with more than one device. Your initial example is for ONE line of service. There are individual plans that have been untouched thus far.

Secondly, you mentioned having to pay $20 more to tether your laptop if you did go with the plan. It is not $20 more to tether your laptop. It is $20 more if you use a laptop to directly access the Internet with built in access. If you are tethering it is not an extra charge

I agree for many it would be an increase if you went with it. Eventually all shared plans will be migrated to it. Some people come out cheaper while others pay through the nose.

"Smith: People have changed the usage of how they're using their devices. They're moving to using more data, and to ensure the speed and reliability and the access to the network, people are paying for the amount of data that they use."

That deserves one huge facepalm. yeah, because you're heavily marketing netflix and other bandwidth heavy apps to show what your network can do yet now you're scared of people actually using it?

Not only that, but you're charging us for unlimited talk minutes and texts, all the while you are admitting that we don't really use a lot of those anymore...

Is Verizon going away with the traditional 700/1400 min family minute plans? Thus seems stupid if so because my family plan is on the 700 min plan and we never come close to the 700 mins and my line is only one with data. Why would I pay for unlimited mins when my 3 lines nets to shot 400 mins a month.

Their announcement says you can still use old plans or switch to new, the only thing is you can't get a new subsidized phone and keep unlimited data without switching to share everything or $30 for 2GB. Not saying they won't change it next month but for now 700/1400 seems to stay in place.

Is that for existing accounts or will new accounts still be able to get the 700/1400 minute plans.

The Share Everything plans are the only option for new accounts based on one of the leaked training slides droid-life has. Existing accounts will still be able to keep their current plan and add the tiered data package on a per line basis if they don't want to switch to the Share Everything plan. Not sure if you'll be able to go up/down in your minute allowance like you can with the current nationwide plans though.

-it's the word unlimited that you guys like, but I bet you guys don't use as much data as you think.

Honesty, I think people are being babies about all this.

Im not one of those people thats demanding Verizon's head on a platter but I can tell you I beleive these plans are a smoke screen for charging us all a lot more for data down the road.

I like the word unlimited, I actually havent met anyone that doesnt like that word. However I know my usage, 5 gigs a month. Ill note thats five fair play gigs, I dont tether. Sure I think some people are going nuts but I think most of us are reasonably bummed about these changes. Remember this is an enthusiasts forum, we are the power users. And while we are the minority that is the noise your gonna hear on this forum. Calling us babies for complaining on a forum that caters to us and our habit is bad form. Your in the wrong place.

Can you get these new share plans without the data bucket? Let's.say get the family access plan on 2 lines on dumbphones for $60 for unlimited talk and text on both?

being babies? I use less than 1 gb currently, so if I gave up my unlimited I would be charged $20 more right off the bat, and I'd also have to keep an eye on my data usages (I currently used .8 gb, so I would worry about going over). This plan is bad for us little folks :)

There are Share Everything plans for those with just basic phones. One is $40 for 700min and pay as you go data. The other is $70 for unlimited minutes/texts and 300MB of data. Each additional phone is then $30 each. http://solutions.vzwshop.com/shareeverything/pdf/verizon_share_everything_plan_details.pdf

I'm still kinda worried about the best buy situation. I'm going to call them today, i will report back with the response
