VZW Share Everything Plans

The way I understand it, you will still be able to select the individual 2 gig ($30) plan. I could be wrong though and Verizon reps will tell you something different every time.

that was my understanding as well. Like you I may also be wrong.

That's correct as is stated at the bottom of this page (from Verizon): Share Everything Plan: Unlimited Talk & Text with Shared Data.

? I have an unlimited data plan on my account. Do I need to change it?

You're not required to move to Share Everything but if you do, unlimited data will not be retained on your line. As a Verizon Wireless customer you have choices when you upgrade at discounted pricing. You can choose from a standalone data package starting at $30 for 2GB or a Share Everything Plan. If keeping unlimited is important to you, you can choose to upgrade and pay full retail price for the phone."

According to the rep I talked to today, the 2G $30 plan will still be available as the bare minimum after the new plans launch. Only if you have it already or sign up now. I called to make sure that when I get my SGIII, I'll be able to move it over to my main line and just downgrade that line to a "dummy line". She said yes, I can either use the line as a full fledged smartphone line with the minimum 2G $30 package or switch it out to a basic phone line OR just call customer service and have them assign a "dummy esn#", either or it'd be for $9.99... I probably asked her 5x. "Even after the new plans go live, I'll still be able to do this?". She said yup. I'll keep what I have, which is the unlimited family with 3 smartphone lines +1 that I added to get the SGIII.

Another bad thing about these plans is they took away all other plan options one size fits all text and voice. Most users barely use voice. Verizon is forcing unlimted even though many don't need nor want it

I'm pretty sure that if folks went over talk n text limits.....they either:

paid the overages and kept it moving every time it happened.
upped their plans to the next level...or eventually unlimited talk n text.

I really dont understand them forcing this on single line users. And I plan to take my unlimited line off my family plan before its too late.

I dont know about most users barely using voice. Some ppl replace their land lines with their cellphones. Most users....ala the general public....barely use their smart phones to the fullest capabilities. My kids mother is such a user. She is the main reason I eventually went from 450 minutes and pay per text to unlimited talk n text.

She's on Sprint now...and just looking at her past 4 months:

2 times she went over 2000 text. Data use...twice she went over 2 GB, never going over 3GB. Thats all 3G tho...as she cant get a WiMax signal to save her life. When she used my phone that had a better signal on Verizon...she constantly went over my 900 talk limit. Text limit too, whatever it was. And because of her I hit larger than normal data use...using LTE. She went for the hat trick on a regular basis.

Yes.

As long as you're an existing customer before Share Everything launches, you'll be able to make changes to plans and features on the existing Individual and Family plans.

The only thing you won't be able to keep is Unlimited Data if you upgrade after Share Everything launches. No existing Verizon customer will be forced onto Share Everything.

Can anyone help me with this... I have 2 lines with unlimited data and 1 feature phone. I plan on preordering the SIII and keeping unlimited data.
So, what will happen if I replace my feature phone with my old smartphone? I won't be upgrading that line, so will they allow me to choose a 2GB data tier on that line?

Depends on when you replace it. As stated above, Verizon has said they're not forcing the Share Everything plans and are still allowing the per-line tiered data packages. One thing they didn't say is how long this would be allowed and your guess is as good as ours on that one.

I suggest looking at it like this:
Text and voice cost the carriers next to nothing and will continue to become less and less important to consumers. This will become even more true with the emergence of VoLTE. Because of this they can strategically promote Unlimited Text and Talk, and many will think that they are getting some value that merits the trade-off of paying so much for data.

We should all just throw away the text and voice from all comparative discussion of the plan and just view it as price tiers for data access.

FWIW - Here's my family plan (unfortunately this promo is no longer available):

I knocked the voice minutes down to shared 700 and they gave me $15 dollars off in addition to my 25% employee reduction. Because I have more Voice and Texting than I'll ever need I just compared the new plans with losing unlimited data on my and my wife's lines and it wasn't worth it. New 32GB Blue GS3 on order (Likely the last subsidized phone I'll ever purchase.)

I'd have to think they would allow tiered plans for individual lines. The new plans are really a raw deal for the individual user unless you spend all day using voice minutes. Personally, my phone is used for occasional calls (maybe 100 minutes a month), a few texts (maybe 50 a month), and the rest is data for web, email, streaming music, apps, etc. Unlimited data is much more important to me than unlimited voice/text.

just got off the phone with verizon..............YOU NEED TO ACTIVATE A PHONE BEFORE THE JUNE 28 DEAD LINE! BUY A CRAPPY 4G PHONE THEN RETURN IT WITHIN 30 DAYS TO GET THE SGS3! DONT PRE-ORDER THE PHONE. YOU WILL BE SORRY!

Same usage patterns here but since I'll be porting my single line from AT&T (on an iPhone 4) I pre-ordered yesterday to get an existing individual plan. I thought about waiting for the double data promo to reappear but there's too much potential to get screwed if I wait until 6/28 with these Share Everything plans. I signed up for the 450 minute plan with 5GB of data and no text messages (I'll use Google Voice for texts.) My work provided me with LTE iPad 3 on Verizon so I already know that 2GB of data wouldn't be enough with an LTE smartphone.

Even though my work pays for my cell phone, and I love their network, I probably wouldn't sign up with Verizon if they forced me onto a Share Everything plan just on principal.

Incorrect. Bad CS person. Call again. Verizon has already stated pre-orders (from Verizon and Best Buy) keep their unlimited. We already have a contract with them which states we have the unlimited.

That's what I was thinking. This will work... For now. I'm in no rush to replace the feature phone but was concerned I'll have to in order to get a decent data tier. At some point I'll probably jump ship.

Spoke to 3 verizon reps yesterday. Excellent experience. Share everything training has apparently started and will be ongoing for the next week. *ask your rep if they have had training, if not ask for another rep that has*

All of their answers were consistent and very thorough. Much more knowledgable about Share Everything rates and upgrades.

Highlights:

-Keeping unlimited does not require a new 2 year agreement. Remaining on month-2-month will suffice.

-Buying a phone off craigslist, ebay or private sale will not affect your plan. Feel free to take advantage of the open market.

Call your Verizon rep today. There seems to be more certainty to their answers. GL.

So how would this work in a scenario like this:

We are a family of 5, there are 3 lines with data, 2 lines without.

Of the 3 lines with data, only 1 has unlimited data (mine)

I am planning on purchasing phones at full retail price in order to keep my unlimited, but would I lose it anyway if one of my family members upgrades their phone at discounted price?

Would we be automatically converted to a share plan? Or are we allowed to keep our existing individual data accounts indefinitely?
