[WARNING] It looks like B&N 2.2 (Froyo) update is here

IMHO the Nook app is pathetic compared to the "real thing"

I had the CM7 on an SD card and found it interesting, but ended up removing it permanently so i could use the Nook for the purpose I had originally bought it.

The functionality under CM7 was seriously hampered by lack of hardware in the Nook itself. I later bought a Galaxy Tab. And for reading I alternate between Tab (moon+ reader) and the nook, synching by chapter.

Why can't you still run that when on CM7?
There is a Nook app that is there with CM7 and you can log onto BaN's app for your books etc..
When that is running it is the exact same reader etc... as the stock Nook library etc...

Yeah sorry, I just got the CM7 ROM on the Nook and only ran the Nook app once. I didn't really play with it much and I did not notice that it did not have all the features as the original. I wonder since it is software if it could be modified to run on CM7.

I'm not sure what you mean, but I've got my nook rooted, and run CM7 off the SD card. I've got a sandisk class 4. When I want the stock functionality, I just pop the sd card out and boot up to the normal OS. I'll probably stop running CM7 after the update comes through and a stable root method is found.

What to do if you're auto-nook(ed) 3.0?

I was rooted before running into the problem described in post #1. Since nobody else has reported a forced download, I don't know if it was 2.2 or something else (and if so, what?) Since resetting to 1.0.0, I'm planning on leaving it stock until the update comes and then rooting. I also have CM7 on a SD card and a dual-boot menu to choose between them.

Not to hijack this 2.2 update topic, but I run CM7 via an SD card and keep my rooted stock for my magazine, newspaper, & kids books. I lead a group that tests Android devices and I can tell you that I honestly feel the CM7 Color Nook compares very favorably to the Galaxy Tab I use every day for testing at work. The screen on the Nook blows away the Galaxy's screen...no comparison. In fact the screen on the Nook is better than any other tablet we have including the Xoom. The newly released 'final' signed build of CM7 works incredibly well including hardware video rendering for size appropriate movies. Games run perfectly as do all apps that I've tried. Plus, I'm doing this via an SD card on the Nook. I have the dual boot menu pop up on boot so I can easily choose to boot to internal stock or CM7. Aside from having 3G access which is very convenient, the Nook stands up to the Galaxy Tab incredibly well...and at about $300 less plus no monthly fee.

At any rate, once this 2.2 update really happens and we get root on it, I think stock is gonna be even better than it is now. Then next up is Honeycomb once source is released.

Rosey99,

Do you mind sharing how to do dual boot between stock and sd (cm7, in particular)?

Thanks

Could you also share how to repartition your sd card (I am using an 8 Gig) so that, once it is set up for running CM7, you can use the rest of the available space for storage (which is now "missing").

Thanks.

That is the CM7 method I used also.

My confusion was in seeing my 8 Gig card reduced to less than a Gig when viewed via "properties".

I set up dual boot using this method: [ADV] Boot menu for the Nook Color [2011-03-19] - xda-developers.

I installed CM7 using this method: [ROM][CM7] Size-agnostic SD Card image and CM7 installer for SD Cards. with updater - xda-developers. It will use the entire card, so repartitioning is not required. With other SD card installations you can resize the "sdcard" partition with Easeus.

Exactly what I did. You recover the lost size of the 4th partition (the SD card part) using Easeus. I've also found that if you run into FC's and other issues, you 'can' format the card again using SDFormatter which seems to solve many issues (do full erase).

I've also done this: Using the same SD card partition for eMMC and SD booting - xda-developers

I'm using the dalingrin overclock kernal which raises the volume as well. I have a Patriot 8GB class 10. NookieFroyo runs crappy on the Patriots for me, but for some reason CM7 runs like a champ. Couldn't be happier with this setup! Other tools I use are:

I'm using a 16 GB SD card and when I go (from the main screen) to Settings and then to Storage, it says:

SD Card
Total space 13.31 GB
Available space 13.27 GB

Internal storage
Total space 0.93 GB
Available space 814 MB

Additional storage: /mnt/emmc
Total space 5.00 GB
Available space 4.99 GB

the Barnes & Noble site is showing 1.1.0 as the current update. I would really like to see Froyo stock, then root that! My favorite setup is stock rooted, I just want FLASH!!
