Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?

I have had my Nexus 7 since mid-July. Bought at Sam's Club before they sold out.

It's been perfect since Day One, as has my son's, daughter's, and sister's. We are "4 for 4" good ones in my family.

Absolutely love the N7. I couldn't recommend it more highly. It's everything I wanted the iPad to be, and more.

Edit: Whoops, sorry for the duplicate posting. The first one went into "never-never land" after I posted it. Now, 5 minutes later, it appears.

Must be a problem with my Nexus 7... lol

Im on my 3rd device now, just got it the other day. First one hadf the bad ghosting images and the second one had the screen separated from the left side (not huge but made a clicking sound when you would push on that side of the screen etc.)

dissappointed that its having this many problems. but my 3rd seems to be good (crosses fingers)

I got my Nexus 7 just this past Saturday (08/11, today is 08/16, if you're reading this in the future). No problems. I was afraid I might see some screen lift, but nothing. My serial number starts with C70, is 16GB, and I bought it from Staples.

i'll be on my 3rd one after work. First one was a C70 but the left side had screen lift and made some noise when pressed down on it. Exchanged it last night, turned out it was a C60, build quality was great but the screen flickers all the time. So, back to walmart I go. For the last time I may add.

Just got the 8GB from the Play Store and there it's perfect.

An update on my nexus 7. It went from perfect to having the raised screen defect on the left side to getting a second one which had the same problem. My last one had an unresponsive screen and black screen flicker from time to time so I decided to return it for a full refund and am now nexus 7 less and $50 lighter from used screen protectors :'(

I'm sure it would be a great tablet if I didn't have a horrible experience dealing with the defects.......such a shame with ipad mini rumored to come out this year.

I ordered a Nexus 7 from Google Play for my son a few minutes after the product was announced in late June. Due to Google's inability to update my credit card information expeditiously (the card expired 1 Jul and was replaced with a new card with the identical number), my son did not receive the tablet until the latter part of July. Unfortunately, the tablet he received was unusable because the touch screen spontaneously generated clicks in one corner many times a
second. Worse, Google Play customer service has been atrocious after we immediately returned the device. We still do not have a replacement device. If we had it to do over again, we would buy a Kindle Fire (which another son of mine already owns) despite the technical superiority of the Nexus 7. Amazon has always provided excellent customer service and my other son's Kindle Fire has been very reliable. Google Play has the worst customer service of any major company I have encountered with the possible exception of AT&T.

I personally hate tablets including my iPad2 provided by the university where I work. Tablet user interfaces are incredibly brittle compared to laptops running Linux, OS X, or Windows 7. If you accidentally trigger the wrong input on a tablet, it is often impossible to back up (undo) or otherwise quickly recover. Even reading email on a tablet is grossly inferior to reading it on a laptop. Laptops are MUCH more flexible and forgiving. Moreover, "keyboard input" on a tablet is slow and awkward in comparison to a "real computer" with a keyboard. As a Java/Scala software developer, I love my ultralight laptops. I carry one in a daypack everywhere that I go.

Sorry about your experience. One thing I've found greatly enhances the tablet experience is a bluetooth keyboard. I've got one for my Nexus 7 that folds up smaller than the N7 itself, and works great. (I'm typing this on it now.)

I hate thumb typing anything longer than a text. With this keyboard my laptop never leaves home anymore.

I got mine from Walmart two weeks ago. It was in perfect condition when I opened the box. After using it daily at home, in the office, and on the subway, I still don't have any problem with it.

Perhaps your expectations are not correct? It is not mean to replace to do work, but it handy as an PDA, Calendar, Media, Movie, Games etc....

You can using a $2 ebay USB connector use a keyboard and mouse. I plugged in my logitech wireless transmitter for my house and a little coursor showed up. No problem!

If you want the best of both worlds with better integration Perhaps the ASUS transformer Prime / Infinity Line of tablets would be more inline what you would like? It is more like laptop that has a keyboard come off. LOL.

Got a Nexus 7 from Staples last week. Really liked the device although it had the spastic brightness issue (which didn't bother me too much); but after two days of use, I started noticing screen lift on the left side and a bit on the bottom. This was a C60.

I returned it and talked to Google Store CSR - after he assured me that Google would only send the latest model, I ordered one.

Well I just opened the delivery box and found a C60 SSN double taped (resealed) box. I called the CSR again and the best he could say was the device is new and the double tape is from a packaging issue or QA process.

I really like the idea that this might be a C60 that has been 'debugged/de-defected' by Google, but no one at Google will talk about the quality issues and remedies.

So rather than take a chance on paying a restocking fee, I'm returning it unopened, and will probably buy local for ease of return and possibility to verify SSN before purchase.

The main point of the post is: Buying directly from Google doesn't guarantee a C70 Nexus 7

I just purchases a C70 from Google and a C60 locally. I haven't noticed a problem with it, but with so many people having problems how can I make sure mine is not affected.

Update: With assurances that I'll get a full refund, I opened the box with Google CSR on the phone.... Sadly, (on the left side) the screen was clearly above the metal bezel for nearly the whole length. It is actually worse than the one procured at Staples. There was also the common slight 'dent' about midway up on the left bezel.

I'm very committed to obtaining an N7, and this is my first time having issues with two devices in a row. So not sure if I'll wait a bit, hoping issues get resolved, or play roulette with local stores till I find an acceptable one.

Well, the problem with that reasoning is that if you do a google search on ipad screen lift you'll find out that the ipad has had its share of screen lift problems.

I live in canada and I already had two Nexus 7 purchased from Staples, as it were all returned defective (screen)

I finally ordered a play on the store and I received it yesterday and it was defective but also looked reconditioned.

So be careful because Google certainly try to liquidate the Nexus 7 defective returned by customers.

Just returned my 4th (and final) N7 today. This final one seemed reasonable for a week or so, but the display was starting to lift more and more. Oh well...going to give the Transformer Infinity a whirl.

I got scared for a while when my battery was at 1%. It was probably due to so many apps I didn't close. Right now, it's back to normal.
