Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?

Sadly, I returned my 16GB to Staples today and got an 8GB replacement (no 16GB in stock anywhere in my area). :'( Not gonna open it, cause I ordered a 16GB from Google Play Store. I'll see if that one is a good one, then return the 8GB. If the 16GB is bad again, I'm just gonna keep the 8GB, assuming it's ok.

Opening my new 16GB directly from Google now...hope I got a good one this time.

Came in fine when I received it back in 17th of July but just yesterday, the screen started to get a whitewash/ghosting issue :(. The screen goes back to normal the more the screen is turned on so it needs at least 15-30 minutes before the white tinge totally disappears. Then as soon as the screen is off for more than 3-5 seconds, the whitewash comes back. I left it off overnight and I could barely see what was on the screen this morning.

The problem I'm now faced with is trying to get it replaced. At first the Google rep tells me that I am out of the 15day return/replace policy they have . Not a great thing to hear, especially for a device which I thought and still think is an awesome device. Obviously the device has a defect. But they have good news the rep says so now, I have to go through an RMA process and have to wait and see what happens. The process of which I will be contacted within a few days via email by a "specialist" and hopefully its nothing that will take too long.

I'm taking mine for exchange today after work. Though I'm kind of nervous. This will definitely be the only time I exchange. I'm not going through 5 devices. If this one doesn't work out, I'll give it some time. Fingers crossed.

I've gone through 10 and all have light bleeding. People who say they don't have any lighr bleeding on their nexus 7 don't know what light bleeding is.

If you people are doing multiple returns because you can manage to slide your fingernail into the seam on the left side of the case or because you're scrutinizing a screen tester app for any sign of backlight bleed, you need to take a Xanax... seriously.

I challenge you double digit n7 returners to document these problems with some photos and post them here as evidence. I'm betting the majority of these issues are people being just a little OCD.

I got my n7 from the google pre-order and reading this thread would make it seem that I've won the n7 lottery by receiving a 'worthy' unit on my first try! I've got a buddy at work who just ordered the 16gb and is worried now that he's going to somehow receive a piece of garbage from reading posts like these. I'm calling BS until I see some photos documenting the severity of these problems.

I think I'm actually done after returning this one. Why are they even shipping out faulty garbage this late after realizing the vast majority are defective.

I've been through 3, and called it a day. All 3 had pretty significant screen lift, were 'creaky', and caused pretty significant ripples on the left side of the screen.

It's a letdown because I can tell I would have really loved it, but I wasn't going to keep running through defective devices. I may try again in a few weeks, but it sounds like they are still shipping out defective devices, which is pretty disappointing from a consumer standpoint considering they are clearly aware of the problem.

My nexus has perfect. I left it in my car all day by accident yesterday in 100 degree weather and when I took it out, I saw the screen slightly raised. This morning, however it was back to normal.

Defective - Screen lift and became completely unresponsive to touch. I even re-imaged it (if that is the right term). Thing was rocking for a day. I am returning it for refund, but who knows might get one a month or two from now.

Is screen flickering a software or hardware issue? I've started noticing that, and I've looked it up and it says that it usually happens at lower lighting on a bright screen or Chrome, which is when it happens for me... but if it can be fixed, then I don't know if I want to go through the trouble of returning or exchanging it. Other than that, my Nexus seems to be in great condition... unless I'm just oblivious to the problems. But in that case, I'd probably never be happy with any Nexus tablet and just keep returning them and wanting to tear my hair out.

Purchased a 8 GB model from staples only problem I have now is that I cannot use the headphone jack it will not allow me to push it all the way through.

Never mind it works fine now

First off, going through 10 already? Crikey, no wonder there was a delay!

Second, I love mine. :)

8GB model, pre ordered from google, delivered 20th of July, been running perfect ever since.

My only issue is how finicky it is about what cable I use to charge it from, this makes no sense and shouldn't even be an issue at all, the fact that it is, is somewhat worrying.

Any forum poll like this is going to be heavily biased towards defective models though because its people with problems that are searching for these threads!

It appears that the micro end is longer than my others, which is a shame because the cable itself is very short.

This is beyond people searching for these threads. I went through 2 entire shipments my local store got. Wife's friends husband is on 4th which is going back. A friend of mine that works in a nearby town has gone through 7 or 8 I forgot which. My friend thought his was excellent until I showed him what to look for. Then the returns started. Personally don't know a single person with a truly working one.

Honestly, I know what to look for, but I also realize that some things in life won't be perfect and that while I go OCD crazy with my GN, I can't do that with this :).

Particularly because it's a $200 tablet that does way more than what it price indicates; IMO, performance more than makes up for some of the "defects."

16GB from Sam's Club. Perfect until I opened it up and accidentally cut the cable connecting the speaker to the board. So I'm speaker-less! My fault entirely.

Exactly how I feel. As long as it performs well, I'm happy:D

No issues with mine. Haven't had any of the issues people talk about on here

The left side of my screen has an infinitesimal amount of screen lift above the bezel. You really have to hold it close to even see it. There is no glue sticking/unsticking or creaking sounds. Also have a little light bleed at brightest levels in completely dark room. Every thing else on the unit has been fine so far.

Not sure I could classify this unit as defective for either of these issues as they are minor. I think all backlit LCDs have some light bleed. I also think that you can't expect a $250 tablet to have the same build quality as a $500 tablet. There is a reason they were able to sell it so cheaply. They either cut costs on hardware, assembly methods, or both. Since the hardware is pretty pretty high quality (Tegra 3, DDR3 RAM, High-res screen etc) I think they they cut costs with their assembly methods, which is leading to the screen lift issue. And I do not expect that future units will not continue to have these types of issues. I highly doubt that Google or ASUS is going to change the design for hardcore users that frequent device forums. The general population would never even notice most of the issues reported here.

Of course there are legitimately defective units out there and they need to be replaced.
