Weird Connection Issues

This happens to me on my Atrix whenever I leave my wifi from home or work. I don't have a data connection - the only way to resolve it that I've found is to shut down the phone and then start it back up.

Which, is absolutely ridiculous. My old BlackBerry 9000 had zero problems bouncing between connections when one or the other wasn't available.

If this problem bleeds over to the new Atrix that arrived yesterday (I did not have a chance to try it out as I had prior obligations last night), then I will definitely be returning it for something else that's more consistent.

I ask that each of you hope on over to Moto Forums and post here or we can start a new thread about it from us at AC. I posted my four biggest concerns yesterday and got some good answers back and truly feel that they are interested in legitimate issues/concerns. One of my concerns was this and they would like as much feedback on when/how it happens to you.

They are looking for as much info as they can get to help recreate and track down these issues.

I am not able to connect to my home internet at all. The status message states Obtaining IP address from xxxx.... . Then after 30 seconds or more it disconnects and starts the process again. I have a DLink DIR-655 router with WPA2. I tried enabling the guest account with no security but I get the same results. My wife has a new Inspire and wifi works flawlessly on it with the security enabled. This should be something very simple to take advantage of...how does this make it through testing? If the Inspire had a better battery that would be my phone in a heart beat. I sure hope moto resolves this quickly.

For what its worth, not sure why everyone is having this problem. Mine drops back to H+ when it loses WiFi and then reconnects to WiFi when I get back into range. Note that this does take a few seconds, especially on the fallback to H+.

In using the replacement phone Friday through today, I have not had any of the same issues as with the previous Atrix. I do note that for some reason the connection to my wireless network does not appear to be as strong as other devices in the house, but, at least when that connection is dropped the phone falls back properly to the cellular data network.

I'm going to continue to tinker with settings, but so far so good.

Wifi unreliable at best

I don't see anything new on this issue on the moto forum. My wifi is unreliable. Sometimes stays on for hours. Sometimes a few minutes. Have to close wifi to start cel service. What's up?

I use WPA at home and works reliably. At work, however we have 12 identical Cisco WAP Access point boxes and I can connect to about half of them - If I happened to be in the area of the "ugly" one - Atrix shows me as connected on my device and IT sees me connected but I have no access (wifi takes the leading role and blocks network so the only way around is to turn the wifi off)
Called ATT - support person said "sorry we know nothing more on wifi other than how to tun it on and off - call Motorola"
Called Motorola and second level support told me "if it connects to wifi at home and to some boxes at work - we consider it working - let your IT fix this issue" . IT of course says "this is the only device with such issue (and the only Atrix in company so far) - all BBs, iPhones and other androids work - replace the device and if it still doing this - we will look closer". Will go to store and replace...

Replaced the device and now is actually worse.
Seems like there is something with the device - old one was able to connect via few access pints - new one is worse as it doesn't connect through any tho it say "connected" and gets an IP address. Has nothing to do with signal strength.

I'm having somewhat of the same issue. About any connections. Most of the time it will say network unavilable or something. The fix is I have to turn the device off them turn it back on. Kind of a hindrance. Am I doing something wrong or do I have a defective phone?

Registered to throw in my two cents,
I've had my atrix for about 12 days, battery issues aside (gets hot) and one random restart (shut itself down as if I held the lock button and hit shut down) the mobile network issue is my only complaint.
My wifi doesn't mess up but I have noticed more than once (3 or 4 times) i'll have bars with HSPA+ showing but get no data connection from ATT. I'll go into settings->about->status and it'll say mobile network: disconnected until I restart my phone then it'll work flawlessly. I've got 18 more days before i'm stuck with this phone so i'm wondering if it's ATT's problem or should I get my atrix replaced.

That is exactly my problem...have a few days to decide. Did I pick up a lemon or is at&t the problem...? Should I replace my atrix for another ATRIX? I need constant internet! I ammm unlimited!

Hrm. Hard to say, since I didn't have that same problem with my phone. I only had issues either staying connected to WIFI or falling back to the mobile network.

The replacement phone has shown no signs of exhibiting the same behavior, so, you might want to try swapping phones. Though, based on my experience, I'd do so in-store versus over the phone.

I'm taking mine in today for that issue. Its much worse in the morning, after using it for a while it then decided to stay connected and doesn't get loss of connection too often.

Goes from loosing connection every 4-5 min to maybe once an hour. Really weird but sure pisses ya off.

Got the replacement and worked great till I needed to charge the phone. After the charge its back to the same crap.

bleh.

That certainly sucks. I haven't had any issues since receiving the replacement phone, and I'm sorry that some continue to experience them.

Given the hit-or-miss nature of this, I guess it points to the components and/or build quality.

Hmm the Mobile Connection not connecting is strange. Ive only had that problem with Wi-Fi. Well not entirely just it not connecting, but it not kicking in when Im not that far from the router. the WiFi distance on this phone im not extremely happy about. But thats not a deal breaker for me. I dont have mobile connection issues though. You guys might have one that has issues cause I dont think they all do this.

With my new phone, I no longer see the issues. The original phone was absolutely terrible with regard to not falling back to the mobile connection.

Wifi issue

I wish motorola would figure out whether it's a hardware or software issue.I'd hate to have to swap phones now that I've spent days setting it up.
