New Epic not new to Android

What a great phone for $49 upgrade price!!! Upgraded my line from a Blackberry 9650 and my wife from a Palm Pre. Phone works great for work and business (MS Exchange). Glad to be back on Adroid!!!:D:D:D

Hello, Tajhay73 I have a epic and i am a bigger my phone rooted but i dont where to go from there
So you rooted your Epic and not sure what to do next? You can check out some of the many custom ROMs available to you, not to mention if you do decide to try a ROM there are about a dozen different custom themes you can run on those ROMs too.

The ROM listed in the thread below all should have there own threads available to skim through and read about otherwise everything else is listed in the INDEX below.

Welcome back to Android, good choice going with the Epic 4g. You got a top shelf phone for an unbelievable price!

After being on a Blackberry Curve 8330 for 3 years (those damn things can take a beating) I finally converted over to Android with my new Epic. It is AWESOME!

I had my curve on a hybrid/cracked OS and I'm ready to get into the nitty gritty with the epic...how much better is it rooted with custom roms because I'm digging it Stock at the moment.

Welcome to the Epic 4g...

Follow the link below to root your device (this is the only method you should use, DON'T USE ROM MANAGER). SDK manager will not root your device its only for developers to create & modify Android apps & explore the Android OS for programming reasons.

[Root] Samsung Epic 4G Official Froyo EC05 w/Optional EXT4

The link in my signature "FAQ's etc. etc. " will explain many questions you may have.

Any further questions just ask,

Rooting,- plus

I really need to know if the EXT4 thing will back up my phone completely. I have restored and played with it, I got how to put it back completely and then add the froyo, I do have that saved too.I am really looking for your advise on which free programs are the best for -backing up to computer-file manager- and any others you might want to share with me...I want to go try the EXT4 thing but I need to back up all of the epic 4g

EXT4 conversion process does a backup and restore of your device to apply the EXT4 filesystem. Unfortunately when you do make the jump to EXT4 conversion you have to follow up by flashing a custom ROM which in return you are starting from scratch with your device.

If you worried about loosing your current data then I would recommend doing the standard RFS root (OneClickRoot v.2.5.5) then you will just be applying root to your stock setup. Once that is completed you can use Titanium Backup or MyBackup Root from the Market to backup your data on apps, etc.. Also a good app for SMS/MMS is SMS Backup and Restore from the Market works very well..

Once you do the above you can then turn around and convert to EXT4 and once your on a custom ROM you can restore DATA only after redownloading your apps.

I found some roms but you had mentioned that I should not go with a rom manager. If I have this wrong I am sorry, I will go back and read rom flashing again... I am really trying to get this so bare with me please...don't mean to come off stupid either..

Yes please stay from ROM Manager at this point. Maybe some day Koush will have it working properly for the Epic 4g but right now some things are broken and cause more conflicts and confusion than it is worth..

Really anything ROM Manager is doing you can do exactly the same on your own using CWM manually by downloading and flashing ROMs on your own.

Just switched the family plan from AT&T. Went from one android, two iphones and two others. Now have 3 Epics and 2 LG Optimus'. 5 people who couldn't be happier. I was happy with my Captivate, but found a new friend in the Epic.

Soon to have my Epic

Having finally come to the point where I had an actual *need* for a phone with real web capability, I did a lot of research and asking pointed questions of cellphone company salespeople (so many of whom know so little about what they sell) I decided to go with a pair of Epics and a Vero to replace the two phones and landline.

Buh-bye Verizon! Buh-bye Qwest!. Hello Sprint! Sprint just recently got 3G where I live. That plus the truly unlimited plan plus stuff Verizon wants more $$$ for is what was the final factor.

Back in 2004 I got my first PDA and cellphone. A Handspring Visor Platinum and an LG VX3300. Since them I've had a Palm Tungsten E2, a Palm LifeDrive (with Compact Flash replacing the Microdrive) a Samsung A650 and a LG env2.

I never saw a point in integrating my PDA and phone, mainly because until very recently smartphones weren't all that hot for web use and the only outfit with 3G here was Verizon with their too expensive and limited data plan.

I'm finally going to dive in with Sprint and the Samsung Epic. (The switching credit of $175 each for the Epics and $50 for porting the landline to the Vero will help out a lot in about 3 months!)

Glad to finally be on board with the Android Army. My girl and I just grabbed the Epic and boy are we lovin it!. We both been on the Samsung bandwagon since the original Instinct and wow, what a freakin difference! Looking forward to diggin' around and finding out more about this little badboy!
See you all around the forum!

Hello, everybody!

I am new the community. I joined up to see about different Andriod stuff coming to my Epic. I just got it when I switched to Sprint (from Verizon) a few months ago now. Love the system but am slightly afraid to root my phone so I can run an upgraded OS. That being said, I am contemplating buying a Nook Color just to root.

Hello all..I enjoy geeking during my spare time on stuff like this. I have a pretty good background in the industry..and promise to do my research before buggin with noob stuff..and I do work for a major north american carrier ;-) that being said..if its public..I will share..look forward to the next chapters
