What about the HTC One (M8) DON'T you like?

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

I don't understand why HTC logo has to be there and take so much space. Camera also sucks according to Verge. Its not a cheap phone, why cheap out on main camera and make that stupid 2nd Duo camera.

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

BATTERY LIFE...

Like all HTC phones, they put in great hardware and then put in an undersized battery.

HTC just doesn't get it... Battery Life is important.

maybe you should try the camera brfore you judge.

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

The height of the phone, only 5" display

the color of the phone (sickly grey)

Incongruous design (seriously how is this phone so coveted for its design elements wtf)

Useless 4mp camera

Noncompetitive 2600 mah battery

Sense 6 is boring

😏

do you even own the phone???

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

Not too into the design, but I didn't really care for the M7's design either. I'm also kind of put off by the camera situation. It's not getting reviewed well and the shots back up what the reviewers are saying.

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

Honestly, that there's not a thread about the "all new HTC one" being "a total letdown" or whatever is on the S5 board. Cuz this thing deserves it with that lackluster (to say the least) camera and the video on this very site shows what happens when you drop the thing...those gashes are deep and will never go away and make the phone look like crap. Just my .02

I can't try cameras in every single phone etc, that's why there are reviews for products. So far 2 reviews basically said it sucks and not even as good as camera on N5

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

The gimmicky camera. HTC swung and missed (big time) with their Ultra Pixel gambit. Not only did the camera under perform its competition in virtually every known professional comparison but the modules themselves were defective. Just see the various threads on AutoFocus issues and the dreaded purple tint. I own 3 Ones and the issues have occurred on 1 so far. If 33% of their cameras are defective that's a major problem.

Fast forward to 2014 and HTC is even more dire straights financially. Rather than play it safe and put a standard 13-16mp camera in there they seem to have come up with a new gimmick, the double lens. It can either be spectacularly bad or good. Seems like quite a risk for them.

Agreed. The camera is definitely the worst part of the M8.

I don't know why companies do that. It's pretty cheap to put a decent camera in phone and make all people happy, instead they come up with Duo crap.

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

Yep, the popular brands will get pushed.. I was pretty much schooling the sales guy today when I got my One. They didnt even have a banner in there like they did with the M7.

You would think they got kick backs from Sammy and Apple to deter people from this phone.

It's probably because the S5 is a better phone and the salesman doesn't base his purchase advice off of whether or not a phone is metal.

I concur. Besides the metal chassis, slightly upgrades hardware...what does this thing really have going for it?

We are not paid based on what phone you get. And we don't get kickbacks. Everyone has their own ****ty opinions.

Camera is better than s4. Battery is better than s4. I have phone not just reading about it.

Check out phone area's test on the battery. It even beats the 3000 mah G2 in battery life.

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

What I don't like? Hmm, let's see...

- definitely a mediocre camera - from ALL of the reviews I've seen it looks like it hasn't changed from previous model and still has same issues with low pixel count (many reviewers noticed blurriness in various still shots), as well as issues with under-exposed or over-exposed shots. It actually degraded compared to previous model - there's no OIS anymore, which is a very useful thing to have (especially for videos) regardless of how fast the autofocus is or how large the pixels are.
- increased display size. Yes, I do have large hands but NO, I do NOT need or want larger display, in a smartphone. I have a tablet for that, which works much, much better for all tasks that require larger display size.
- no inductive charging. Yes, I do realize that it has an all-metal back for more "premium" feel. However, they could achieve same "feel" by using more glass on the back instead, which would allow them to implement this extremely useful feature which I personally really, REALLY like.
- gimmick features like secondary focusing/depth rear camera which I'll probably never use (I don't really care about fancy defocusing effects as long as the primary subject is in focus, which can be achieved without secondary camera) but which is still part of the phone and (most importantly) its increased price.
- its physical shape and the type of surface polishing makes it more "slippery" in the hand (at least that's what some of the reviewers said, not sure how true it is)

All of which is extremely disappointing because otherwise the phone looks pretty great, especially improved speakers and improved software features, as well as the removable microSD card.

An article I read earlier put it ahead of the G2, love to see real world though.
