What about the HTC One (M8) DON'T you like?

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

I don't understand why HTC logo has to be there and take so much space. Camera also sucks according to Verge. Its not a cheap phone, why cheap out on main camera and make that stupid 2nd Duo camera.
Instead of trusting someone else's words, why don't you look up some comparison pics. It seems that reviewers are picking on the camera for lack of anything else to criticize. I thought it looked better than the competition.

Not being able to assign contacts individual notification sounds. :-(

I never understood why HTC doesn't do that on the One. I have a 4 year old phone that does it, but not on new tech??

Go to People>Select a contact>Scroll down to OPTIONS >Click Ringtone>Change Ringtone. :)

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

I'll give you my list:

- METAL: This phone lives or dies by its metal design. If it weren't metal, it wouldn't sell 5 units. If you love metal, that's great. But I prefer plastic, primarily because I prefer light phones to heavy and ...
- The battery is not replaceable. Maybe not an issue if they'd put more juice in it, but seems kind of weak to me.
- Blinkfeed: Useless to me, as I'd rather use something like Feedly, or even Flipboard would be better.
- Black bezel and mediocre camera (I know others have already commented on these)
- Boomsound: It's a nice feature to have, I guess... even if I never would personally use it. But last year's model was already too long. I'd rather just have a shorter phone and a single speaker grill at the bottom, and without that damn HTC bezel. As long as it's loud enough where I can hear it ring or chirp from the other room, I'm good.

In all fairness, it's a decent phone. But like I said before, its only REAL appeal is the metal. Which is really dumb, because it apparently scratches easily. If you don't care about metal, you might as well just get a Nexus 5 :P

But that's for ring tones, I'm looking for texts. Even tried using a third party sms application that I usually use on my other phones- no go. If someone figures this outI, you are a God.

Thanks anyway!

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

HTC spent something like 75 million on advertising last year. Samsung spent something over 100 million just on holiday season advertising and 300 million over the year. Apple wasn't far behind. I am pretty sure what HTC lacks is mostly advertising.

lol the HTC M8 is 160g while the S5 is 145g. Are you telling me you can actually feel the difference of 0.5 ounces? I can't imagine you have any ability to carry heavy weight if you can notice that difference.

Not a problem if the phone can last the day tbh. But, because I have the HTC One, I know the battery is still pretty whack.

- Blinkfeed: Useless to me, as I'd rather use something like Feedly, or even Flipboard would be better.
Disable it. Although, I LOVE Blinkfeed. Gets me through my morning commutes.

- Black bezel and mediocre camera (I know others have already commented on these)
Truly the two things that stops this phone from being the titan that it could have been.

Which is really dumb, because it apparently scratches easily.
It doesn't scratch easily. You'd be surprised how much force you need to scratch up anodized aluminum.

But honestly, that isn't its only appeal. Sense UI is arguably the best Android Skin on the market, it is very swift and lagless.
The camera, ignoring the resolution issues, still take great low light pictures.
The gestures. Some people are just suckers for those things.
The 5mp front facing wide lens camera...selfie palooza.
Boomsound, although you discredited it, is a selling point for many.
But now I have to ask myself...what really sells phones these days?

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

After watching videos, I realized how awkward the bezel is at the bottom and how tall it makes the phone. When the on screen buttons have a black background its like an inch of black at the bottom of the phone. I won't be getting this phone because of the bezel and same 4 mp camera. (excluding OIS). At this point I see no reason to upgrade from an m7, because there really aren't that many benefits. If Htc keeps the low count megapixels on their next phone then they will be left behind.

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

Sooo much black at the bottom. Can't stand that bezel

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

I can't believe HTC ignored the only complaint everyone had last year, and kept the camera only 4 megapixels. Even if the shots are slightly better, they still lack too much detail and are still rather noisy. On top of that, that HEINOUS black bar has no business being there anymore, with the buttons now being on screen. It just makes the phone look awkwardly tall and odd.

Other than that, HTC seems to have a pretty great device here. I want to bite the bullet and order one, but the camera, and the almost comical amount of bezel, is holding me back.

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

Samsung's ad was aimed to give reason to their feature saturation and show how they are applicable to a broad base of users.

Girls putting on lotion using air view. Guys eating BBQ using gestures to answer the phone. Drama Shots of people doing cannonballs I to a swimming pool. Son showing dad how the phone functions as a universal remote and has a built in TV Guide.

The Ad made sense to almost everyone that watched it in some shape or form and was funny as hell to boot. It was a good ad

Gimmicks are in the eye of the beholder but they did make a decent case for their features while being witty at the same time.

I think Microsoft camera ads were much more broadly engaging than HTC's.

Just listened for 5 min while the salsman told me i should wait for the s5...... weird. it's almost like he was getting paid.

I had no idea they could pay you! Man....I've been missing out!! lol

I actually like the M8 and almost purchased it but alas, it wasn't the camera that nixed it for me. It was the simple fact that I couldn't part ways with a removable battery. I tend to keep my devices for more than 2 years so I need that available to me. Otherwise, I would of purchased it to experience what all the fanfare/love affair with HTC is about! :)

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

I'm waiting on the fence. I have a few months left on my Sprint contract and then were switching carriers (not decided who yet) but by then I should have my mind made up. Love the look of the new M8, sure the black bar is kind of a mystery why they kept it with onscreen buttons now. Camera, I'd like to have seen a nice bump in specs but then again I'm happy with my current HTC One (M7) and the M8 is supposed to be a bit better.

Otherwise, I can't find much else to say negative so far about it.

I'm on the fence myself. Its not that I'm unhappy but I just want to try another manufacturer other than Samsung. I'm also looking to switch carriers because my data service with Sprint is just unreliable and mainly unusable. I'm not sure if I should wait and see if their Spark network improves data service but I feel like I've put up enough with them. Not really looking forward to paying more but if the experience is better than Sprint, than it will be for good reason. Good luck with your decisions!

Can someone with the phone verify this? I find this hard to believe.
