What about the HTC One (M8) DON'T you like?

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

While the bezel isn't the greatest thing in the world, I don't think it's nearly as bad as people are making it out to be.

Other phones have plenty of bezel and pass by without criticism. Don't see why HTC aren't allowed to have a bit of bezel. I assume they require that space for whatever internals they have, so I'm fine with it.

I'm just hoping that the camera this time round is a really good upgrade to last years one. I don't care that it's supposed to be the same 4 'ultra'pixel camera, just as long as it takes better photos than last years' One.

Also the battery capacity is supposed to be 2,600mah. Sure it's not 3000mah, but if it lasts a solid 5ish hours of screen time, I'll be happy with that.

Also I wasn't a huge fan of Blinkfeed. Hope it has some really big improvements this time round so it's more useful. Or give us the option to swap it out with Google Now if we want.

The way I look at it, if the bezel is the thing that most people are pissed off about, then it's looking like a damn good phone.

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

For me it's the size. It seems too big.
Also the appearance of a 16GB model, unless it's the "cheap" one and the standard is 32GB.

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

Size. Everyone bashed the s5 for being so large yet the new one or whatever they will call it is much larger, with a smaller screen. I mean it shows how much wasted space there really is, and also how well samsung did with the s4 design.

The HTC One is only .08 in. larger but has front facing speakers so it's going to be a little larger.

That's a lame excuse. Speakers or not, it has the black bar which is wasted space.

There are many reasons why the black bar/bezel may exist, but I highly doubt they did it simply to "waste space." Smartphones are engineered to within an inch of their lives, everything is a compromise. Until iFixit or some other site does a teardown and we see why HTC chose the bezel they did, I feel it's disingenuous to label it worthless or a waste.

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

The camera. Why can't they just come out with a normal camera that works well, this dual camera seems like another "ultrapixel" gimmick.

I don't think the dual camera is a gimmick and the ultrapixel was not a gimmick. The ultrapixel cam did what they claimed it would do. True they had some problems with the bad censors but I don't old that against them they didn't manufacture the censors and had trouble getting them in the first place. The dual camera IMO is the future of cameras in cell phones and both Toshiba and Corephotonics are manufacturing dual cameras right now for cell phones and tablets. Why do I want a normal camera if I can get some kind of optical zoom from the dual cam. More mp cams are not the future, the future is manufacturing better lens and giving us optical zoom and with those 2 things you will have better results than adding more mp.

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

More mp cams are not the future,

Theyre not the future but you got to get to a reasonable point before you can stop focusing on that. The minute you take a photo from the one to a computer or anything with a bigger screen you realize how much the quality diminishes. We don't need 20 or 40 like nokia is doing but we sure as hell need more than 4.

I'm supposed to just take your word for it that they are not the future. I think they are. You give me a 4mp cam with 3X optical zoom and a 16mp cam with no optical zoom and the better picture will come from the 4mp cam if the optical zoom was used before the picture was taken. True if you try to zoom in on a 4mp image it will not have the detail of the 16mp cam but if you zoom in before the picture is taken you won't have the need to crop the picture latter. And still better lens and optical zoom is what we need for better results not more mp.

I was merely agreeing that mp count isn't the future/end all be all.

Sorry took it the wrong way. Not trying to start anything. I have done some research on the dual cams that Toshiba and Corephotonics are making and what little I can find on what HTC may be doing. I think it is a sound technology. I wish I could explain it but both companies seem to use a different method. The dual cams from Toshiba use the same size 5mp censors to give you about a 16mp image and Corephotonics use different size censors to give you up to 5X optical zoom. Also both are supposed to have faster auto focus and give you the lytro affect without having to take multiple shots like the Galaxy S5 does. If you want to know more search my posts for some links that I posted.

Re: What about the M8 DON'T you like?

If I had to complain, I would say this.

The One was such a great phone, that there is nothing really to UPDATE, yes, you can upgrade in just about every area, but the phone is fine.

Anyway, when it comes to marketing, HTC's was woefully behind. I don't remember Ironman, but I do remember Samsung's, why do I remember theirs? Because they attacked Apple, thus, putting them in contention (in most poeples minds) as the best phone, period, just by having the audacity to mention another phone in their ad, which most people in marketing don't advise, but it worked wonders..so does copying their style, but that is another topic altogether.

Anyway, HTC did release commercials, but it was far to late, and I think around Verizon's release, silly things like....Happy Troll Carnier, or Hyper Tinfoil Cars....really dumb stuff that never panned out, whereas, I don't even want the S4, but you have to admit their commercials against Apple were spot on and always great to watch, and not too loud or annoying if you didn't want to watch them.

I remember the first One commercials of a bunch of young twenty somethings dancing in a club taking low light pics with the one. I remember saying at the time in these forums that HTC missed their target market because those young twenty somethings don't have the same disposable income as a broader section of the buying public. Compared with samsungs ads for the S4 where they showed a 20 something kid snowing off the gimmicks to his parents Samsung hit a much larger demographic.

....what?

To make sure I'm not wet or anything, this reads as if though HTC crashed and burned by having twenty somethings in their ads, while Samsung soared high with the eagles by having a 20 something + his parents in their ad. In conclusion, if HTC had included a 20 something + parents, instead of twenty somethings in their ads, then they would have reached a larger demographic. I did not know that's how marketing worked.

I am confused on your disposable income reference here. Based on your statement that twenty somethings don't have the same disposable income. Both HTC and Samsung had 20 somethings(who lack the same disposable income as the broader section of the buying public). At this point, it looks like HTC and Samsung are running in vain. However, I think that Samsung could have saved a few more advertisement dollars and just 86'd the 20 something from the commercials and just used his/her parents instead.

It's simple, Samsung had 20 somethings AND their parents (with the disposable income) in the same ad thereby hitting a much broader section of the market.

Ads aren't made by accident. Some are hits some are misses. It's all done with focus groups and nothing is left to chance.

LMBO!!! There were some bearded women in those scenes that were a part of the target audience as well. You could barely pick them out, but they're there.... no lie!!! hahahaha!!!!
