What has Verizon taken away from V20?

Before this thread I didn't even know the V20 had FM radio. I haven't listened to that in years! I just downloaded NextRadio and set up my old favorite stations. Yea.

So I take it you're not on Verizon... It's a good thing to have just to keep you safe in the event of an emergency, because the emergency broadcast system will also broadcast on FM radio.

So I just got off a half-hour phone call with Verizon technical support. I was trying to determine whether the hardware for FM radio was actually missing, or if it was something Verizon disabled. The woman was very interested in helping me but honestly she just could not find the answer and is going to check up on it further. We finally decided that it might be a good idea for me to contact LG and see what they have to say. I'm going to do that now and I will let you all know

Hardware is there. VZW disabled it. I honestly don't think they care what we think about it.

LG technical support concurs that the hardware is there. What they don't know is whether they disabled it with software which they might have done, or they have disabled it by physically disconnecting the FM chip set from the motherboard which is also possible. So now I have to go back to Verizon and see if I can get a straight answer. I really do want to know. Someone else in this thread I believe said that the Samsung Galaxy S7 originally came out from Verizon with FM radio disabled as well. Numerous complaints to Verizon prompted them to turn it back on. I guess you don't know if you don't ask :-)

Well if complaints to VZW resulted in them enabling the FM radio on the S7, that likely means it was disabled in the firmware.

We've two courses if action: 1. Complain to VZW and hope for results. 2. Someone writes a patch to re-enable it, which would likely require root.

Nobody you get to actually speak to will know the answer. They may guess but not know. Engineers do not work in customer service at LG nor VZW. They won't even speak to customer service people. You could try contacting the CEO. He could ask engineer to speak to you.

Are you trolling or do you not understand what Google In Apps search is?
I know what google is. I'm asking what you are suggesting it to be used for? Are we off the fm radio topic now? I'm not trolling. We were talking about fm radio then a post said use google so I asked for what purpose? To find fm radio app? What?

Do you not see the post that I quoted? This entire thread isn't only about the FM radio...

I did. I just read it again. I don't understand it the post you responded to. I didn't understand what the poster was asking. It doesn't matter. I'm not trying to be a pita. I was asking if you were suggesting a specific use for google app other than just some random search.

"In Apps" is a new function of Google to be able to search within apps on your phone. When the phone was first announced, it was being said they V20 would be the first to feature this "In Apps" feature as a shortcut on the home screen and also able to have as a shortcut on the second screen.

Poster I quoted said he wanted that shortcut so I just suggested he use the Google app since we apparently don't have that shortcut on Verizon. In the Google app, the last category when doing a search (after all, images, video, etc) is "In Apps."

Maybe Verizon thought it was redundant to have a shortcut for something that's just as easily accessed by doing a normal Google search.
