That's what I'm thinking they might do, release it all in the time frame the S series is released, the fold will take the note time slot. Just my thoughts

That's what I'm thinking too. The Fold phone will have the Spen built into it, and the S line will not have it built in.

The Fold will be their niche device eventually. Except it's a very hefty price. If that's the case next year I'll likely stick with the S line. Paying 2 grand for a phone that has acrappy case selection and breaks easily just doesn't sound appealing.

I'll agree with the crappy case selection, but the break easy I won't. This is actually a pretty solid phone

<redacted> I paid about the same for the Fold 3 as I did for the Note 20 Ultra and the Note had way less memory.

Edit: Actually I compared the wrong device.
After trade in I paid almost the same for my S20U 512 compared to Zfold 512.

Same here. People seem to always use the lower price points of the note to the fold. The note 20U 512 was $1500. The fold 3 512 is $1800 this year. So in reality the prices for new technology is coming down as they usually do.

I don't think most people buy the higher memory models but regardless don't really think fair to compare to make a point on the $1800 price point. $1800 is the lowest entry price for the Fold and should compare to the lowest price point for the N20U.

I've never paid full price on these phones and never will. And I think most people are like that in unless there is a promotion involved you won't get many people buying these at full price and Samsung knows it. That's why they offer crazy trade-in promotions to get people to get the new phones. I guess now with the Fold 3 they let you trade-in multiple phones now because the prices are just getting up there??

I've been lucky to have different options. I used my companies Verizon account to buy my Note 8 using a line upgrade for $450. AT&T offered the $1000 credit and my 3 year old Note 8 to get the N20U for $300. Right now a N20U on our corporate account if I use an upgrade costs me $649.99 and the Fold3 is $1200.

I already told my boss today... if Samsung comes out with the Note22U, I'm selling my N20U on Swappa and using an upgrade for $649.99 for wash. :)

When I was saying $1800 for the fold 3 I was using the pre-order pricing, which the 512 was $1800 and everyone was comparing the smaller version of the note pricing then.

You are correct, nobody should pay retail for phones. There are always promos going on

Actually I should have said S20U 512 compared to Zfold 512. Almost the same price after trade in

Good morning all!

N21U 512 unlocked owner, user here, on Verizon.

Reading up on the next note...the 21...speculations on canceling the note 21.

In thinking about it from a pure revenue, marketing strategy...what if the note 21 dies.....it didn't say the note 21 ultra dies....

I'm purely speculating here.....the new S21 Ultra with pen functionality joins the N21U with integral pen and expansion memory slot as a high end power user, business consumer segment......the S21 stays as is and becomes the non power user consumer segment.

Add in the fold into this mix...they segregate higher end specs and a premium price point fir business use from more budget conscious consumers with fewer specs.

It's a large marketing shift for sure....

Break into small groups and discuss... I'm verklempt

I will buy the Note Series as long as Samsung makes them, but the marketing I see for the Z fold and the flip seemed to aim at younger people.
Let's face it, some of our eyes are not as young as they used to be.

I know you posted this a little while ago, but I think you meant aimed at older people if you're referring to eyesight getting worse, .

It's true, the fold 3 will help with bad eyesight, don't see the flip helping there though. The bigger screen on fold 3 does more then just make things bigger. Seeing full web pages is great also and other benefits.

As I've said, a rose by any other name! I don't care what they call it. As long as they make it!
Yeah, people get hung up on names to much. In this case the note fans and S series fans always dispute which one was better, a lot think the note is the premium of the S series, in reality the Spen is the main difference.

IMO, Samsung made the correct move in rebranding and moving forward with new technology, just like when they did it with the note when it first released.

To me the S series took a demotion as it doesn't offer a top of the line spec phone anymore ony s22 and s22+ , if people think the s22U is S series (it is not ) that's a renamed Note series phone . I love the Fold series (my personal favorite) and see why Samsung did a little rebranding to not cut into the profits of the Fold series, if they left things the way they were with S/Note/Fold it would take longer to get more people to get on board with fold device which in my opinion they didn't want .
