What problems are you experiencing with the Essential Phone

I do not understand the reviews where individuals are saying that the phone is not worth $699. Please tell me what phone I can buy for that price that beats this phone.....You convince me and I will return the Essential Ph-1 and buy that phone.

I am love with the build quality and specs especially storage and build quality.

I hear ya... people have bitched nonstop about the price of this phone while neglecting to mention that the Note 8 and Iphone 8 and pixel XL are all closer to $1000. The Galaxy s8 was well over $700 when it came out if I recall.

These are probably the same people that constantly expected every Nexus phone to cost $200 unlocked and bitched when it cost $450.

Well reviewers are complaining or to put in a proper way saying what this phone is missing that pretty much every flagship has. Waterproof/great camera/wireless charging on some etc. They complain on other flagships as well if it misses a particular feature. For example one plus 5 was criticized for not having waterproof and over promising on camera.

Most review I have read/watched has praised the design, stock software and mentioned the cons. If that's worth $699 great, while at the same price or less you get great phones like U11, OP5, S8, G6 etc which pretty much has every feature and fast as well. There are lots of options and essential being just their first phone couldn't get all the features baked in.

You could care less about those features which is perfectly fine but YouTubers/reviewers are just mentioning the pros and cons. Also, they do complain about how expensive Note 8 is and will do the same about iPhone 8.

Personally I'm enjoying the design, simple software, hand feel but do miss great camera. Don't care about wireless charging, waterproof is desired but not deal breaker. If this were my only phone I wouldn't choose this since camera is important to me but I have other phones for that so I'm good.

At the end, it's your choice on what's important for you and buy what you like irrespective of what me, someone else or reviewers say.

If you review the phone and say who is it good for and not, then we have a balanced review but putting click bait titles like "Save your money", "Not very Essential" etc., doesn't help but bring down whatever phone they review. Thats the part I don't like.

Paying for a phone is subjective. You may like it or not. Saying its expensive is not a general opinion. Apple wouldn't have sold iPhones at all if that is the logic to be used.

Sure there will be click bait videos and articles for every product. I don't think anyone should be surprised by that. You just can't cherry pick that click bait articles since that is unavoidable.

I was attracted to the phone for its size. I like smaller phones. Note and LG is off my list. I have a U11 right now which is still a tad too large for my hands. I figured there might be some bugs so I'm glad I didn't go with my Reserved unit. I think I'm going with the Sony Xz1 compact. That thing with 4gb ram and a 835 with a 720p screen is going to fly! It's also waterproof, has improved front stereo speakers and a headphone jack

I like the look of the essential but,
I also prefer a smaller, less heavy device. I wish Verizon supported the Sony compact.

Only two of the phones in your list intrigue me since I am on Verizon for now and that is the Note 8 and V30. I do not think I could buy either one with similar specs for $699

The note 8 is 950 bucks at the v30 is going to sit around 830 like it was last year. To have all the things that the note has, how many people would pay 950 bucks for a phone from a brand new company. The answer is absolutely no one would pay that much for an untested product and company.

I'm excited to get this phone, I actually returned the U11 to pick order this via Sprint. I will compare this directly to the U11 that's about the only phone it can be compared to at this price point. I am currently using the G6 and it is easy to tell that is has last year's hardware. This thing is slowly becoming one of the worst phones I have used.

What people need to realize like I said in another reply. Is would you spend 900 bucks for a first phone from a new company. Take the build quality of the phone, slap water resistance (also essential hasn't actually rated this phone) ois wireless charging and an oled display that's what you are going to get for right around 900 bucks. There is no way anyone is going to spend that money on an untested company and product.

I personally wouldn't mind spending $900 or $1000

I don't think price was the factor here for them to not include certain things. I read somewhere or probably heard in some podcast that when they started designing this phone it was easier to source the LCD screen and cut them in that weird shape for the camera for example. So it's difficult to switch to OLED screens at the last minute, even for other features may be they didn't have the time and resources to include everything. I think next version they will probably have everything on par but at similar current price.

On the G6 - yes that was my least favorite flagship this year followed by Z2 force.

The email client Blue Mail and TypeApp do not function on the essential because the Send button is missing probably as a result of the design changes necessary to accommodate the cutout.

Dang! Launch was a disaster and the end result is a bug infested device?

Holy smoking guacamole am I glad I didn't go through with my reservation for this..

Hang in there early adopters, I hope the phone actually works at some point in the near future.

Bug infested? LOL. No, read through the whole thread. Many bugs were fixed by installing clean rather than from a backup.

There's no denying some people have had issues but it's not as melodramatic as you describe.

Mine has been 100% bug-free, 100% drama-free. Can't say that about my former KEYone.

It's a good first try but needs work from third party developers to get the apps working on the screen. I cannot wait until they get this on an oled screen.

Found some bugs with 9folders email software nine. The auto merge is not working and can't touch the undo popup when an email is swipe deleted from the mail app.

Wondering if people think the touch issue will go away if I do a factory reset on the phone? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Also noticed that when I watch a video in full screen in YouTube I can't get the forward and reverse slider to respond to my touches.

Definitely worth a try. Mine has been flawless with touch. Only app bug I've found was in Textra but the phone itself has been fine. I use BlackBerry Hub for email and it's been great so far.

I generally won't spend 900+ on a phone ever, the closest I got was the v20 but returned it after a week. I'm doubling down on this phone as it's me last phone I will buy for a year(so I hope lol).

I'm sure next year's model will have all the fancy stuff. I wonder if wireless charging was left out do the construction materials. I thought I did read that there is a mod being devoloped that will allow wireless charging. That's the only thing I will really miss about the G6.

So I did a reset and clean install and it seems to have improved the touch response issue. For what that's worth, it may help.

Anyone else have pages not loading properly sized? I keep having the text run off the screen as if the browser thinks the screen is larger than it is.....

Yes, in Firefox it happens about once every 50 page loads and only on a refresh, never a new page. I've had it occasionally happen on other phones as well but it might be something with this phone. It's so rare that I wrote it off as Firefox misbehaving. I believe I've only seen it twice in five days.

I guess that puts me at 99% bug-free. lol
