What should Samsung do about the stuck S Pen thing?

Don't do anything. Just put the pen in the right way. The instructions clearly say the pen should go in tip first.

There over 1 billion Android phones out there(Samsung or otherwise).
I'm willing to bet that only 10 people actually bother to read the owner's
manual.

It doesn't matter. It's in the manual and people are expected to read it and should read it.

There's no fault on Samsung's part here. Read the manual.

Don't do anything. Just put the pen in the right way. The instructions clearly say the pen should go in tip first.

I'm sure the manual also instructs the user to use the power button to power-up the phone. Would it be ok if the phone bricked itself if the user accidentally pushed the volume button?

If anything, the warning in the manual makes the situation more irritating. It shows Samsung was aware of the problem, but chose not to change their design. Simply making the S Pen and the sleeve slightly tapered would have fixed the problem with little or no change in manufacturing costs.

This instructions that Samsung points us to is in an online PDF that most owners don't even know exist. The paper manuals that came with my Verizon phone say nothing about this, nor about the existence of an online manual. Anyone else wants to check? Maybe there was something that I missed.

I think Samsung should repair the problem for free, limited to one time per person. The people that did this (yes it's dumb but it shouldn't even be possible) is penalized by having to live without their phone for about 2 weeks (that'she the typical repair turn around time).

There another alternative.(but I doubt Samsung would do it)
Just make a new S-Pen design specifically for the Note 5.
The top clicky part will be slightly larger than the entry hole,
so nobody can insert it the wrong way. It will not sit flush
with the bottom of the Note 5, but that's a necessary evil.

Include the new pen in future shipments of Note 5. Set up
a website so current Note 5 owners can enter their IMEI
number and have the new S-Pen shipped to them.

Problem solved.

Like I said, I don't think Samsung will do this. Kind of reminds
me of when Nintendo was forced to ship out rubber cases and
hand straps for Wii remotes when peopel were smashing their
TV screens while playing Wii games.

I think it could even be smaller than that. The S Pen would just need a little nub on the top of the click button that extends slightly beyond the edge of the button.

Redesign the S pen. Anyone with kids knows this is going to happen. As a mechanical engineer that designs this kind of stuff, I put all the blame on Samsung. If my manager knew I designed a part that could be inserted incorrectly causing permanent damage, I would have been fired. This is like rule 1 for any engineer is to dummy proof your designs. My kids use my S pen to draw pictures and on learning apps on my Note 3 and I'm about 100% positive that even though they are super careful, this would happen. Even if I never did it myself which could happen.

So you blame Samsung for not basing their design on what a toddler might do because people let their 3 year old kid play with their $800 phone?

Better call up all the auto makers and have them tone down the horsepower in case you let your 16 year old drive your $100k sports car, cuz you know, kids & stuff.

Why does the air force bother with those little plastic covers
over nuclear missile launch panels? The soldiers manning
those missiles are probably the most well-trained people on
the planet. They know they are responsible for millions of
lives. Yet the air force doesn't trust them enough? Like I
said, why bother with those plastic covers if those soldiers
are supposed to be well-trained and never make mistakes?
They could have saved a bundle of money by not having
those covers.

The simple fact is that all humans make mistakes. This
could have easily been prevented if Samsung engineers
to an extra day and designed the Note 5's S-Pen so that
it could not be inserted backwards by a human making a
simple mistake.

You really should not have to read the manual for basic things.

Oh man you have too much faith in humanity.
I work in I.T. and I still get asked "which is the power cord?" Or "which is the phone cord" 2 things that have been around before I was born.

Pay attention. Try putting the s pen in right. I've honestly never seen so many people try to blame others for their OWN mistakes.

I agree. People who put the Note 5 S-Pen in backwards have
nobody to blame but themselves.

However, this issue could have easily been avoided if the
Samsung engineers spent a little extra time during the design
process. If this was Samsung's first Note phone, I could
understand it. But even much older Note 2 phones were
designed so that the S-Pen CANNOT be inserted backwards.
(unless you take a hammer and literally try to bang it in) :)

My fear is that we end up ***** proofing everything to the point of uselessness!

Posted for my Galaxy Note 5 with a properly inserted S Pen!

I agree that some of this is Samsung's fault along with being user error. But if this did happen and the S Pen stopped working when it got unstuck wouldn't the simple answer be calling Samsung Technical support to do a warranty exchange. I'm not sure how they would prove what was the cause unless they did a complete detailed look in the phone.

Seriously? Having a lot of horsepower is like having a stylus that can easily be inserted backwards? Are your suggesting that people want a design flaw in their phone in the same way they want horsepower in their sports cars?

My car may not have cost $100k. But if it had flaw similar to the one with the Note 5, I would be upset. If, say, my seat belt system would stop working because I accidentally twisted the belt and inserted the tab backwards, I would call that a design flaw.

Samsung doesn't have to do anything. To put it nicely, I would say it's 'user error' ☺
People should not blame Samsung for this... There is nothing wrong with the design of the Note 5...like said above, it's a user error

If someone stuck a pencil backwards into a pencil sharpener and the sharpener broke, no one can blame the pencil or or the pencil sharpener company for bad design

People need to stop being retarded. If they are unable to follow instructions then they need an old Nokia. I find it laughable that people feel so entitled to a new device because they screwed up. This is like people needing a reminder that coffee is hot. It's ridiculous

You know that you are supposed to use the power button to power-up your phone, right? If the phone was ruined by you hitting a volume button by mistake, you would be OK with it? I would say that a phone should not be designed that way.

I see you don't end your sentences with punctuation. If your errors bricked your phone, would that be bad design? Would you complain if it happened?
That's not even close to an equal comparison lol
And even if it did, I have no one to blame but myself if it was common knowledge not to do that

It's common knowledge (to the majority of people) that the S-Pen shouldn't go backwards I think
