What will it take to get you interested in a Pixel 4/4XL?

4 or 5 DSLRs, 1 mirrorless Sony NEX, about 30 lenses. If you think cellphones are addictive, that's nothing compared to lens lust.

I almost forgot. I have the Moment wide, tele and anamorphic lenses. The anamorphic is a killer lens. Turns a cellphone into a cinematic camera.
So I do have solution to the Pixel having no wide lens. Just have to buy the Moment case. There is no cellphone with a wide lens that can match the anamorphic lens.

Interesting. Reason I bring it up is because I think users that are more into photography as a true hobby have more attention to cell phone features/offerings. I'm a casual user and "point and shoot" is my maximum potential. So we get into these conversations around features and what makes something "good", I look to the photographers for insight.

Like wide angle.. For me, I'm like "who cares", but for someone like you that could be a big difference when it comes down to a buying decision and what you want to carry with you.

I used to laugh at cell phone cameras but they've come a long way. That can't match pro equipment and never will but, for most fun snapshots they are more than adequate .

Yep...was amazed at the P30 Pro’s 5x optical zoom then realised my Canon compact from 2011 has 14x optical zoom as well as OIS, autofocus etc.

Still, the camera quality of recent and current smartphones is amazing and good enough for the majority of people. Less and less consumers are buying compacts or actual cameras.

Just clarifying for those not familiar with zoom multipliers. The multiplier is only a factor of measurement for the specific device's lens from one extreme to the other.

Reasonable pricing will help me make my decision about getting the new Pixel.

What is the "top price" you'll pay for a Pixel 4? Pixel 3 64 GB was $799, XL $899. I MIGHT go $100 more on each one.

The final pricing is probably the most anticipated info on the Pixel 4

For me it will come down to price. Unfortunately, whether it's realistic or pessimistic, I expect it to be near $1,000 for the XL since it was almost there last year, and its competition hasn't changed that this year.
The features I find of particular interest is the Soli gesture and security features, mostly because I'd love to see how that's implemented, and I'd love to see an improved camera app.
For Soli, I might change my tune from excited curiosity to frustration if they implement it poorly, but with what I've read about it so far, I'm definitely curious.
The camera app I think could use some love. It's certainly "fine," but in my opinion, I've just seen enough better instances of apps that are basic for basic users, but have expandable settings for photography hobbyists. As a Pixel customer, I'd love to see Google improve their camera app to have a little more expandable capability.

Without a doubt, manual settings would be a plus for those who want to go beyond auto.

So it's acceptable for the carriers to continue to go up 100.00 each year and everybody will continue to pay the money.
The only thing a little better seems to be you think you have a better camera

I just think in a software-centered camera like google's I don't see why you can't have both. The hardware is already good, and the basics are decent. But I don't think that it would take anything away from the app to have a "pro-mode"setting where you can adjust exposure, and other settings.

I agree
Other people like Apple has come out with both the hardware for the camera.
Plus the software.
Seems Google just wants to use software and charge more.
Always a year behind on giving us better hdw.
More memory, bigger battery.
Seems everybody is giving better batteries.
A SD card
Better glass for the phone.

And will the Pixel 4xl operate in 5 g
Or will Google make us buy another phone costing another thousand dollars..

Why does Google keep holding back.
And people keep taking up for them.

What we ask for, Google don't give us.
.oh wait
We are gonna get gesters and facial unlock.
Something I don't care about.

But all along.
Trying to see how much more money they can squeeze out of us

Give us both the Hdw and software.

Just because you don't care about them doesn't mean others won't. Some of things you care about, others may not.

General statement: If one doesn't like the features, including price, one should not buy the phone. I have yet to grasp the benefit of complaining.

I'll agree with you partially.
I will admit that Google does seem to be set on it's path and less concerned with user feedback/desires, and is more concerned with staying its own course.

Where I will disagree with you is some of your examples.
Who's adding SD card slots when there weren't before?
Who's adding more battery capacity than before (other than Apple, but they were a special case this year)?

I don't really count 5G as a feature until sometime next year when the network is in more than a handful of cities. I would also argue that 5G is less of a feature for smartphones, and more for IoT devices and VR/AR devices. But that's an argument for a different thread.

And like @ezdoit said, face unlock and gestures might not have been interesting to you, but like I and others have said in this very same thread, they are features of interest to some people.

I paid $1000 and some change for the P3XL 128gb. I'll take into consideration advancements in technology but not for a 64gb. For a P4XL 128gb I would pay $1100 or $1150 max.

My cut off is 1000.00 then have to be a trade in to reduce that . Will not spend that money straight up on a phone and I did for the pixel 3xl at 980.00 last year but won't happen again for any phone .

Oh yeah, I forgot about the trade in :)

I'm with you on the trade in thing.

2019 was my year for dating different phones, other than the Pixels I've used for years. I tried the Pixel XL, still have it, the 3a, 3aXL, and the Note 10+, all of which were sold.

The 3, or the 3XL will be traded in on whatever model P4 I get. After using all those phones I am currently using the P3, I love this little guy, we're having a bronemance 🤗

EDIT: Since I will be trading one phone in, I am not to worried about the price. I will be getting one of the P4 64GB models. If I was ordering now, it would be the Pixel 3.
