What's a Huawei...one of those cheap phones?

Sad. I tried to see if my sister is interested since she realized her next phone have to be bought outright if she wants to keep her plan.

Anyways, like LG in the past before nexus it was known as a cheap phone. I did, I even questioned about buying it.

It seems like Huawei isn't there yet, I don't know one person since I got my 6P who have heard of it.

It's always the first question they ask, what's a Huawei?

Up here Wind sells them but the lower end models. My cousin has one and it didn't help convince my sister to buying my phone.

Let your sister buy an iPhone or possibly a Samsung. It sounds like she's more interested in the brand than the phone. Both are great if one doesn't mind the locked-up architecture. I suspect we could name more phones your friend have never heard of. At least you seem to keep yourself aware.

Personally, I would never have thought about a Huawei until it was a Nexus. Although I don't buy a Nexus just because it is one (waited a year after the N6 to upgrade the N4), the Google Nexus line has the only phones I look at. Hubby even switched from the "i" to the N5X (LG, of course), and he loves it.

I bought a nexus because that's what I wanted. Never heard of Huawei. It was the nexus I was after. Very nice premium, solid feel to me.

That is exactly what I do! I have been paying attention to what Huawei was/is doing in the mobile market but when I saw that were building a Nexus, I was sold. One of the best devices I have ever owned. Really, just content.

Exactly. I only buy Nexus phones because they come from Google thus no crapware and no carrier interference. The manufacturer is irrelevant, it uses a Qualcom CPU a Samsung OLED and a Sony camera, those are all best of breed. It's a Google phone and that's how it should be described.

I may be way off the mark here but aren`t iphones made by some unknown Chinese company for Apple?Either way,my 6P is easily the best phone I`ve owned by a long way,doesnt matter to me who made it.

Ugh, I run into this same thing. As other have already said, I usually just say I have a Nexus phone and explain exactly what that is. It's frustrating that the average consumer only knows iPhone and Galaxy.

I knew Huawei before Nexus but only as a budget phone. I have associates who bought Huawei handsets to use with pre-paid SIM cards (or just WiFi). Because of the pre-installed malware, they refer to them as "spy phones". So Huawei is known in my circles but not with a good reputation.

I guess it doesn't help when the majority don't even know how to pronounce the company. I remember when I ask about it, called a few carriers/stores. One girl said, Hawaii? LOL

And that's the time to advocate for the fact that it doesn't have all that carrier crap, it doesn't come pre-loaded with manufacturer crap, you can use it anywhere and not be locked in to a plan, etc.. Once the focus is off the name 'Huawei', there's *so* much to advocate for.
