What's new in Android 4.4.1

In case it was missed under quick settings the cell and wifi now has a orange tint on the activity arrows...

and i think the issue with youtube is youtube not android as a whole.

That was already there under Kit Kat.

I would suspect if your battery is draining that fast there may be an app involved. My battery life has been very good.

ART seems to be quicker with 4.4.1 than it was with 4.4. I used it with 4.4 but went back to dalvik after a while because I didn't notice a big difference between the two. Now there is a noticeable difference. Could be a placebo effect though. Time will tell.

4.4.1 seems to have fixed the BBM notification issue that was broken in the latest BBM update.

I sure hope the battery drain issue is fixed. I'm going to wait a bit here for others to confirm their battery consumption rate is at least back to how it was with 4.3, if not better, before upgrading again.

Not that is a big deal for me, but I'm wondering why I see absolutely no performance (i.e. speed) difference on my N4 between 4.2.1, 4.2.2, 4.3, 4.3 update, 4.4, and 4.4 running ART.

Actually, that could be your problem. Apple ear pods are not compatible with Android devices as a rule. Use the device as, you know, a phone and try it. Also use a Bluetooth headset and a wired headset (Say Skull Candy). Your issues should disappear.

Because ART only does one thing that eliminates the extra step of converting universal byte code into your Nexus 4 Snapdragon S4 Pro executable machine code every time a process is started. So after you compile all bytecode on your phone under ART then all application then become native Snapdragon S4 Pro executable code. We are talking milliseconds saved for each process over and over millions of times by simply converting all bytecode that will only run on your Snapdragon S4 Pro. The speed gain it there but it is too quick to see starting up a App just one time. What you should see under ART is improved battery life since you reduced one major CPU operation from millions of time during a day into zero for every Application and Sub-Process that will no longer need to be converted again under ART.

I think the Bluetooth icon in the Power Control Widget is different. Can anyone confirm? I believe the Wifi Icon is as well (when it's off).

This really amazing. Not one person asked the most important question. WILL ANY OF THESE NEW UPDATES
ALLOW ME TO TURN MY DAM TAB2 10.1 OFF!
Don't tell me all the fine things all these roms and updates do when
I cant even turn the thing off.

Have they fixed the issues where you battery drains due to "Android OS"??? My Nexus 7 drains all day long, only lasts two days max, even when I don't use it. When I first got it, before the 4.3 update came out, battery life was unbelievable... Now it's not great at all.

Nexus 5 seems to be similar. Only been unplugged 20 minutes and it's down to 96%... Only sent 2 text messages... The battery life is not very improved for what they said would be improved in 4.4...

I have the very same issue with my Moto X on 4.4. The "Android OS" battery drain is caused by NlpWakeLock (for me, anyway) not allowing the phone to enter deep sleep as frequently as it should. The only thing that "fixes" it is to disable Google Now as well as location services in general. Which, for me, is unacceptable as I use these services frequently. I sincerely hope Google acknowledges and fixes this bug soon. The battery drain issue notwithstanding, KitKat is great.

Just for those that assume it's caused by an errant app, I assure you it's not. After multiple factory resets and even a complete reflash back to stock with no third party apps installed (and bloat disabled) the issue still persists. I hope 4.4.1 fixes it

The update is great overall. I've noticed the phone snappier, louder speaker, and fixed haptic feedback. I'm sure there are other improvements I haven't noticed.

A few minor things I've noticed need fixing tho.. First, the wallpapers render choppy when selected to be used as a wallpaper..

And two, I experience lag when flicking thru the widgets selection screen..

Also, I experienced lag watching an HD video on the device, using the Google movies app.. It may have been the video but I'm not sure

Has there always been an option in the sound settings to switch between what music effects app you want to use? I've never noticed it before the update. But i could be wrong. And I probably am. Lol
