Whats Revolutionary About iPhone 5?

Hmmm.. 4S is now $99, and the 4 is free on contract.

A few months ago I would've said - see what u get for free with Android (mostly crap or formerly high end phones being discontinued).

Now,Verizon has a Galaxy 'stellar' with a dual core 1.2ghz and 4" display for free along with the iPhone 4, and the obligatory 2 crappy Androids (single core old tech, 320x480 etc).

The stellar isn't bad, but it's not a clear winner vs iPhone 4. 4G LTE, 4" 800x 480, 1.2Ghz dual core, all looks good. Then u see the 3.2 MP camera... Vs iPhone 4 3G, retina, and an excellent 5MP camera, not to mention the resale value is way high when u upgrade later. Then there's battery life - a sore spot for most Android phones.

At best it's kind of a toss up now.

But compare $199 Android phones to the iPhone 5. And one thing that free Android phones have that even the $100 4S doesn't have is 4G.

The $199 phones are all pretty evenly matched.

All I can say is WOW... Reading this thread of ongoing stabs and jabs at each other is something else...

I guess, more or less. It all comes down to what OS you like. And before the iPhone 5, the Android phones pwned the 4S.

That is true, absolutely. Though, the only things the Android phones had on the 4s were bigger screens and 4g.

I'm pretty sure we're all in agreement that there is nothing revolutionary about the iPhone 5, despite the arguments back and forth.

I'll agree that the iPhone 5 is PRETTY evenly matched with the flagship android devices. The point is within 4-6 months the i5 will be utterly destroyed by new devices.

And infinity better hardware. The i4s never scored over 800 on geekbench.

I do agree but I also think it was a much needed update. This is the post Steve Jobs era iphone that finally seems more competitive in the market. It's the first iphone in a while that might tempt some die hard android users. It looks good, has a nice sized screen, and lte. If you can deal with ios its a good buy imo.

It is a sweet device. And there really isn't anything wrong with it. I think it is the first time that I feel like the feature set is complete with everything that I would have wanted in an iPhone. But I would still prefer the GNex.

Personally, I think you have it completely backwards.

Oh me too of course, I love android and if I knew Google was going to sell gnexes on the play store for a reasonable price i wouldn't of bit on my upgrade and got my vivid. I just don't care for ios honestly. I like to customize and you can't customize an iphone very much.

That is relative.

Ie, last night i put my bionic on the nightstand at 60% power. This morning - 7 hours later - its down to 10%. This is not a unique experience with Android phones.

My iPad 2 3G got put down at 8%, and was at 5% this morning. My wife can put her iPhone 4 down at 25% overnight with zero fear of waking to a dead phone.

If you are on call 24/7 and accountable for your job to be available as I am (common in IT), this is a critical failing. I went many years not missing a page with a BB, yet missed two in 3 months with this phone. Now its something I have to watch for...

Blame it on Verizon bloatware (which apple forbids), but it still boils down to the same problem regardless of reason. One main issue I have with Android is Google's lack of standards and control of the platform that results in poor results like above. Like, no one should be putting out Google certified 2.2 phones now, yet they're quite common.

More powerful cars require more fuel just as more powerful phones require more battery.

Pretty much. Although the OS is what keeps most users away in my opinion. And the 4 inch screen is still too small for me.

Wow. I'm pretty much agreeing with most of the recent posts here. Lol.

Oh… one more thing… yes.

Suffice it to say that despite how any manufacturer decides to describe their phone, there is nothing revolutionary about any of these phones. It will take a paradigm shift in technology for there to be anything revolutionary. Given today's technology, I don't see that happening in the near future. Maybe a few years from now.

That's where technology visionaries come into play. I don't count marketing visionaries like Steve Jobs. While he did a lot to make people aware of the technology, he didn't invent any of it. He just put it in a shiny package and sold it.

The next truly revolutionary phone technology steps will be for things like battery power that lasts weeks instead of hours; radios that can get through steel and concrete office buildings without having to stand by a window, etc. Those are things that I consider revolutionary. Everything else is merely evolutionary. We are at a technological plateau right now. Ultimately, I believe that any true advances that we see in smartphones will come from other outside technologies, developed in the scientific community at large. Those technologies will spill over, and then we'll have something revolutionary to talk about.
