What's wrong with my selfie camera?!

Just got a Pixel 4 from Amazon Renewed, and everything seemed fine until I started camera testing. My selfie camera looks like I slathered Vaseline on my face. There's no detail, and pixel peeping shows now individual hair details in regular and portrait mode. Did I just get a bum device, is this a common problem with a common workaround, or is the Pixel 4 really that worse than the Pixel 3XL?

P.S. I swear my hands were steady when I shot pics with the P4.

Looking at GSArena for camera specs I'd call it a downgrade.

Pixel 4 changed the focal length of the lens making it wider, decreased the aperture so it let's in less light requiring more noise reduction, and took away the auto focus. All 3 changes would add to the effect your seeing.

Aw crap. And here I was excited about this thing. Thank you so much. I might just return it then, because my Pixel 3XL makes the 4's camera look like a Samsung.

I'm a little disappointed though, as no reviews mentioned the camera downgrade. In fact, DxO posted some really nice pictures from the selfie camera, and I have no idea how they got them.
