i wanna ask, my whatsapp been lagging for few days and it probably related when i blocked and report an account while the network is bad

and then, my whatsapp like can't even reply a message and the user data size is getting bigger (increased for around 700MB !)

also, even when i already opened a chat (e.g. 10 new messages), if i reopen whatsapp, that chat msg numbers is 10 again ! as if i never opened it before

i've tried various ways to contact whatsapp but their support system is sucks !! none of them works !!

anyone knows about this..?

Welcome to Android Central! Have you already tried clearing the app cache in Settings>Apps, then Force Stopping the app?

If that doesn't help, you may also want to try clearing the app data in that menu -- but make sure you've backed up your chats first.

i've tried to clear cache and force stop the app and also clear storage, but it keeps loading when i tap "clear storage"

also, i wanna ask, if we reinstall whatsapp, does our previous chats still exist?

There's a backup function, so that's how you can ensure your previous chats get reloaded.

Do you have any chats with lots of attached photos or videos?

that's the problem... i can't backup my chats... but i can export the chat... but quite many chats need to be exported, then...

yes... lots of them... lots of groups, r8?

Oh, so the app is essentially frozen or non-responsive? I thought it was just laggy.

it became so slow for anything, e.g. receiving messages (it can received messages after hours late), logging into whatsapp web

and, it can't do things like backup data (keeps loading and then it stops), replying even a single message

dunno what happened with this app

also, i wanna ask, is it possible to see every processes that running using whatsapp? like when you're using task manager on windows and you can see any processes under particular app like this:

and also, sometimes the local backup (the event that creates database file in the "Database" folder in the local storage) not happening, is there a way to trigger it manually?

thx

No, Android doesn't have a task manager like that (at least not natively). I think if you enable Developer Options, there's an option there to turn on Memory Profiling, where you can see how much RAM an app is using. That might give you an idea if it's going rogue and gobbling up lots of RAM. To turn on Developer Options, go to Settings>About Phone and tap Build Number 7 times. Then go back a step and choose Developer Options.

Also, what phone do you have?

That's a pretty old phone, so that old version of Android has a different menu than what's current. Back then, I think RAM/memory management options might have been in the system settings without having to turn on Dev Options, so look through there.

Also try a system cache partition wipe, which won't affect your personal data: https://www.hardreset.info/devices/asus/asus-zenfone-max-pro-m1/wipe-cache/

yeaa... i don't really like changing phone since my current phone are pretty good tho (except the OS, but that's okay) and i don't have the need to replacing it

about the wipe cache, i'll try it later.. thx

bro, i tried this way but it seems like it's not by pressing the volume up button but volume down button, from this web https://www.resetfree.com/recovery-mode-asus-zenfone-max-pro-m1-zb602k/

hold down the
  • volume Up + power button (OR)
  • volume Down + power button
but, after wipe cache, my whatsapp issue is still the same. even, the user data size is increased a bit

and it seems like there's no such settings (outside dev options) for this kinda thing...
but, don't know which config in dev options to solve this issue, either

Hmm, I'm running out of ideas. Do you have any other devices you can install Whatsapp to?

on PC? and also, i haven't told you that i logged in to whatsapp web all this time coz there's no problem with the web version (thank God)

the only initial problem is it was quite hard to login to web at first time since my whatsapp at my phone has problem for logging in

but i can't logged in on whatsapp app at PC (the app from microsoft store)

other than that, idk where to install it anymore

At this point, it's difficult to determine if the problem could be due to your phone's system, or perhaps some other app on the phone that might be interfering. Whatsapp should work on phones as old as Android 5.0, so it doesn't seem like a compatibility issue per se -- however, it can be hard to tell if there might be something specific to ASUS's tweaks to Android 9 that could be causing issues with the current version of Whatsapp. All I can suggest for that is to send feedback to the Whatsapp devs through the app's settings (if possible), or through their support site: https://www.whatsapp.com/contact/?subject=messenger. Then wait and see if the problem goes away with each subsequent app update.

It'd be tedious to figure out if another app might be interfering, because that means uninstalling all other 3rd party apps one by one. But if you're desperate, it may be something to try.

I'm running out of ideas
understandable, since this is a bug (imo) and it's a quite big app

this is what i said their support system sucks! they're not responding at all !

been tried various ways in there, but they have the worst support system !!

i think it's better if there's some kinda diagnostic tools or process killer (like i said before) to kill the "stuck" whatsapp process (coz i'm pretty sure there's a process(es) that's been stuck right now and it keep looping behind the scene and that's why it makes the user data keep increasing, bigger and more bigger!)

or if there's a way to unroll the updates to the previous one

Yeah, I'm not surprised -- many companies have terrible support these days, with a bunch of them going all in on AI (providing incorrect or irrelevant answers). And Whatsapp is Meta, so I am doubly not surprised.:poop:

Here are some possible reasons

Possible Reasons:
Insufficient Storage Space: WhatsApp can accumulate a significant amount of media and chat data, which can slow down your phone, especially if your storage is low.
Outdated WhatsApp or Android: Ensure that both WhatsApp and your phone's operating system are updated to their latest versions. Updates often include bug fixes and performance improvements.
Too Much Cache: Accumulated cache data can cause apps to glitch.
Internet Connection: A slow or unstable internet connection can cause delays and issues with WhatsApp's performance.
Background Apps: Multiple apps running in the background can consume resources and contribute to lagging.
Device Performance: Older devices or those with lower specifications may struggle to run demanding apps like WhatsApp smoothly, especially with many chats or media files.

Check and Free Up Storage: Go to your phone's settings and check the available storage. Within WhatsApp, go to Settings > Storage and Data > Manage Storage to see how much space WhatsApp is using and delete unnecessary data.
Update WhatsApp: Go to the Google Play Store and check for WhatsApp updates. Install any available updates.
Clear WhatsApp Cache: Go to Settings > Apps & Notifications > WhatsApp > Storage & Cache > Clear Cache.
Check your Internet Connection: Ensure you have a stable and fast internet connection. Try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
Close Background Apps: Close any unnecessary apps running in the background to free up resources.
Restart WhatsApp and Your Phone: Try restarting the WhatsApp app and your phone to refresh processes and clear temporary glitches.
Consider a Factory Reset: If the issue persists after trying the above solutions, a factory reset might be necessary, but remember to back up your data before doing so.
If none of these solutions work, you may consider contacting WhatsApp support for further assistance or checking online forums specifically for your phone model for additional solutions.

Try different WhatsApp versions

mostly, i tried most of those as i mentioned on my earlier posts, but still no result

for closing background apps, what do you mean by that? also, how to do it?

for internet connection, as my 1st post:
probably related when i blocked and report an account while the network is bad

but, after that, my connections are quite good, e.g. right now:

also, i wanna ask, does the code *#*#4636#*#* can have any relations with all of this..? i've been testing using that code before this happened (iirc)

edit:
and also on today (since i got logged out from whatsapp web today), sometimes, if succeeded to connect to whatsapp web, it always got stuck at this loading screen, as of now

and then it just return to this screen and says that it was unable to connect
