i wanna ask, my whatsapp been lagging for few days and it probably related when i blocked and report an account while the network is bad

and then, my whatsapp like can't even reply a message and the user data size is getting bigger (increased for around 700MB !)

also, even when i already opened a chat (e.g. 10 new messages), if i reopen whatsapp, that chat msg numbers is 10 again ! as if i never opened it before

i've tried various ways to contact whatsapp but their support system is sucks !! none of them works !!

anyone knows about this..?

Welcome to Android Central! Have you already tried clearing the app cache in Settings>Apps, then Force Stopping the app?

If that doesn't help, you may also want to try clearing the app data in that menu -- but make sure you've backed up your chats first.

i've tried to clear cache and force stop the app and also clear storage, but it keeps loading when i tap "clear storage"

also, i wanna ask, if we reinstall whatsapp, does our previous chats still exist?

There's a backup function, so that's how you can ensure your previous chats get reloaded.

Do you have any chats with lots of attached photos or videos?

that's the problem... i can't backup my chats... but i can export the chat... but quite many chats need to be exported, then...

yes... lots of them... lots of groups, r8?

Oh, so the app is essentially frozen or non-responsive? I thought it was just laggy.

it became so slow for anything, e.g. receiving messages (it can received messages after hours late), logging into whatsapp web

and, it can't do things like backup data (keeps loading and then it stops), replying even a single message

dunno what happened with this app

also, i wanna ask, is it possible to see every processes that running using whatsapp? like when you're using task manager on windows and you can see any processes under particular app like this:

and also, sometimes the local backup (the event that creates database file in the "Database" folder in the local storage) not happening, is there a way to trigger it manually?

thx

No, Android doesn't have a task manager like that (at least not natively). I think if you enable Developer Options, there's an option there to turn on Memory Profiling, where you can see how much RAM an app is using. That might give you an idea if it's going rogue and gobbling up lots of RAM. To turn on Developer Options, go to Settings>About Phone and tap Build Number 7 times. Then go back a step and choose Developer Options.

Also, what phone do you have?

That's a pretty old phone, so that old version of Android has a different menu than what's current. Back then, I think RAM/memory management options might have been in the system settings without having to turn on Dev Options, so look through there.

Also try a system cache partition wipe, which won't affect your personal data: https://www.hardreset.info/devices/asus/asus-zenfone-max-pro-m1/wipe-cache/

yeaa... i don't really like changing phone since my current phone are pretty good tho (except the OS, but that's okay) and i don't have the need to replacing it

about the wipe cache, i'll try it later.. thx

bro, i tried this way but it seems like it's not by pressing the volume up button but volume down button, from this web https://www.resetfree.com/recovery-mode-asus-zenfone-max-pro-m1-zb602k/

hold down the
  • volume Up + power button (OR)
  • volume Down + power button
but, after wipe cache, my whatsapp issue is still the same. even, the user data size is increased a bit

and it seems like there's no such settings (outside dev options) for this kinda thing...
but, don't know which config in dev options to solve this issue, either

Hmm, I'm running out of ideas. Do you have any other devices you can install Whatsapp to?
on PC? and also, i haven't told you that i logged in to whatsapp web all this time coz there's no problem with the web version (thank God)

the only initial problem is it was quite hard to login to web at first time since my whatsapp at my phone has problem for logging in

but i can't logged in on whatsapp app at PC (the app from microsoft store)

other than that, idk where to install it anymore

At this point, it's difficult to determine if the problem could be due to your phone's system, or perhaps some other app on the phone that might be interfering. Whatsapp should work on phones as old as Android 5.0, so it doesn't seem like a compatibility issue per se -- however, it can be hard to tell if there might be something specific to ASUS's tweaks to Android 9 that could be causing issues with the current version of Whatsapp. All I can suggest for that is to send feedback to the Whatsapp devs through the app's settings (if possible), or through their support site: https://www.whatsapp.com/contact/?subject=messenger. Then wait and see if the problem goes away with each subsequent app update.

It'd be tedious to figure out if another app might be interfering, because that means uninstalling all other 3rd party apps one by one. But if you're desperate, it may be something to try.
