Where do Downloaded Files Go?

A frequent task for me is to view SkyDrive files on my Droid Maxx. When I select a file from SkyDrive, I'm told that the file is downloading and it displays properly. But I cannot find the file on the phone, not in the program I opened it with, not in the Download folder, not anywhere that ES File Explorer can search. Where is it? If it's temporary and will be deleted (and downloaded again if necessary after deletion) then I'm fine with this, but I'm afraid of clogging my phone with files once downloaded and then not needed; I want to be able to delete them. Thanks in advance.

I just checked on my Droid Maxx and I find my files within the Quick Office App and then select SD Card > Downloads.

I know we don't have an SD slot but that's where I'm seeing it.

Go into your app drawer and find the app called Downloads. Press it and a list of all your downloads will be present.

This may be better than calling other apps, which may not recognize all file types.

I was looking for that app and couldn't find it. And you mention it and there it is. Lol

That would not work for me at least because I did not open the file with Quick Office. I did finally find the files, though, in a Sky Drive folder buried on the SD card. Poor transparency on Android's part.

That is the very first thing I tried and was surprised to see no files there. For whatever reason, accessing SkyDrive files is not considered a Download by Android, and the only way to find the files, I have since discovered, is to manually drill down through the SD Card to a buried SkyDrive folder. Poor showing by Android (or Microsoft, or the combination of the two) on this one.

A better explanation is poor programming by Microsoft. They could very easily allow you to chose the download location, put in the standard download folder, show a message about where downloaded files are stored, etc.

The way SkyDrive generally works, I wouldn't program it to put the file in the Downloads folder either, though it would be nice to have a "save as/save to" option to specify to put a copy of a file in the downloads folder.

But they should at least have an app the gives you direct access. I have not looked, maybe they do? Drilling through directories on a phone is crazy.

I agree - it should be user friendly, and allow the user to easily control their own files. I haven't really messed with it, so I don't know how friendly or unfriendly it is. *shrug*
