which insurance did you guys go with?

I see what your saying but, this is only good if you have a back up phone to use while you find one for that price, purchase it and then wait for it to be shipped to you. With the insurance you'll have the phone brand new in a box in your hands the very next day.

not true, i guarantee i can get a phone off of craigslist faster it would take for insurance to send me a new one. at least at my location, not sure about everyone else since someone couldn't even find the droid x for under $250 at their location but i found around 10 postings in just the last 4 days.

i'm saying this with quite a bit of experience selling and buying phones on craigslist as i like to have the latest and greatest devices. IMO (only stating mine) insurances are a complete rip off unless you break you phone at least once a year i guess then maybe not.

if anyone ever want help or get advice with craigslist in regards to selling and buying phones, feel free to message me.

Get this - I upgraded to my Samsung Epic 4G last Oct 1st - burning ROMs, different file systems, etc. ODIN'd EC05 modem on midNIGHT v5 EXT Journaling on and it's extras package and flying high until that reboot from the EC05 - fried the m/b RAM and took it to Sprint. They changed the screen, worked it over with full diagnostics - dead, dead dead. Tech says $35 for a refurb. Heck it was in better shape, sharper display, microUSB snug. Happy camper for sure, particularly now I've gotten it home and all software is hittin' on all 8s.
But the moral here is that they checked and saw I had no coverage and I though sure I'd purchased because I failed to do so on my Pre. The tech was droolin' on that $7/mo charge, but after thinking about the situation, I came out cheaper paying the $35 and getting the phone I did. I opted for no insurance. I know I made the right choice that time.

The $4.99 a month with the $50.00 deductable or the $6.99 (VZW insurance??)

If you want a NEW phone replacement, it might be worth the $170.

Especially if you need it in the first year of your two year contract, after that you will probably be able to buy a used TB for $200 or less. So you would only pay if you had to as opposed to paying $120 regardless.

I already have a $10 insurance plan, my second phone line with a tiny cheapo Samsung flip phone (no text, no data - just phone) with shared minutes. If I trash my TB, I can "upgrade" This phone for another TB.

I use it as back up for emergencies, to give to friends or family who stay over or when we go on trips, or for the rare occasion when I need to make two calls at the same time (it happens).

Just ordered Squaretrade. Reading about people dropping phones/capsizing in boats (as a friend of mine just did) scared me into it. Never gotten insurance on a phone before but I hate cases and love the TBolt's huge screen and would hate for something to happen to it. Being a bigger phone and one that has a somewhat sleek backside, I'm worried that I'd be more likely to drop it than my previous phone.

tried a 30% off code i found online but it wouldn't work. Then found a 25% off one that did work. actually took a little more off than the 30% ($30 max) one would have :)

also - i was afraid i wouldn't be completely covered by squaretrade bc they dont have a specific ThunderBolt option on their site, and the generic HTC android phone choice covers up to $600, and i thought retail was $750; but I checked verizonwireless.com and saw Full Retail Price $599.99. yay :)

Can you get best buy Insurance (black tie) if you got your phone from VZW after the fact?

wondering cuz they cost the same amount for 2 years but vzw charges 99 deductible.

The nice thing about vzw is they cover loss and theft. Basically the only reason I got them.

I've had squaretrade and used it once before for a bad LCD, they actually screwed the phone up worse.

Your phone is actually at more risk in the comfort of your own bathroom! :D

Since I wasn't offered a choice, I have VZW insurance @ 6.99 a month.
At $6.99/mo what you actually have is insurance plus extended warranty. The extended warranty only covers the second year, not the first which is provided by VZW directly.

If you want, you can still call and cancel the extended warranty and just keep the $5.18/mo insurance. Personally I think that is the best bet. What are the odds of having a "manufacturers defect" between one year to two years from now? You have the 1st year warranty covered by VZW without purchasing anything extra. And "loss" and "damage" are not warranty items. They are insurance items.

Thanks Frank, for some odd reason VW is still having problems adding me to the 6.99 coverage they had to put a ticket in but I am still waiting for them to resolves this, after reading your post I may as well wait until next year. VW said they are having a lot of problems adding the extended warranty to people that purchased the TB through BB I also called Asurion who stated that they added it but it is still not there.

I have about 5 more days before the 30day mark comes up. I want to add insurance to the phone cause I know the inevitable will happen one day. Ive been looking at squaretrade.com and their plan. 99 bucks for 2yrs of coverage and a 50 buck deductible. This will cover everything except lost or stolen (personally) I never loose a phone nor will it get stolen. The only thing I caught was that square trade says your first claim will exhaust your claim/funds, therefore that 2nd phone replacement you will have to repurchase an insurance policy. I don't think Verizon is that way but you are only allowed two claims within a 12month period. What should I do? Verizon's plan? or Square trade? Not to mention I could probably get a 25% discount with square trade using an online coupon?

I have never had nor heard of an issue w/ squaretrade.
I bought my policy only because I know, it's inevitable, I'll drop it.
Bye Bye pretty screen...LOL.

If it makes it a year...and I don't drop it, the price of the phone will be dirt cheap by then.

If you exhaust it one time in the two years, it's still much cheaper than Asurion. The fact ST covers spills, accidental damage and immersion...that was the kicker for me.

I agree. The only thing I caught was once you put a claim in, thats it you cant put in any additional claims. Reason is because the policy your buying is for that one single phone (or your first phone). When you get a replacement, you need to repurchase a new policy for that replacement phone. Am I correct about this? Also is the replacement phone a new one?

Do you ever lean over the side of a boat? Or maybe a fishing pier? Any incident that results in you not being able to return the "parts" is a loss of the phone.

Are you sure 6.99 includes the warranty?
When I bought my phone from a Verizon store, I specifically told the sales person that I did not want an extended warranty, but wanted insurance. I'm being billed 6.99 but only insurance is listed.

Here's what my bill shows at MyVerizon:
TEC Asurion Single Tier -Asurion $6.99

I'm sure. My VZW account states $5.18 for only the insurance.

This is from the Asurion website...

For now I got Verizon and if I drop it ...... Well then it is now lost :)
