which insurance did you guys go with?

squaretrade.com

another bonus is that it's transferable so when you sell your phone to someone that can be an added bonus and get you more hits
Does Squaretrade pay for a lost phone - can't remember what bar I left it in? That is one thing I really like about the VZW insurance. If you're covered for loss, you're covered for everything :D

also the price you pay for the insurance and add the deductible is quite high. around $150? just for example, the droid x came out like 8 months ago? its worth less than $200 now (you can probably get one for $150). so at this rate i can save $150 if i dont break my phone in 8 months. and even if i do break it, i can get a month that is "last gen" which at the rate new phones are coming out for android isn't really that much different performance wise.

On what planet can you get a droidx for 150??

on the planet of craigslist buddy. trying to sell mine right now and best offer is 170 and it has extended battery and a case. brand new sealed are listed at $230 and lots listed at $200. if there are a lot listed at $200, people are usually willing to drop at least 20$ so $180 is a easy mark.

also if you pay insurance, they give you a refurb, which is also used too. so as long as you get an excellent condition one on craigs, its the same thing.

Jeez. Cant find a X in Phoenix for under 250.

you guys are nuts.

squaretrade FTW

100 bucks for 2 years coverage and $50 deductible. this includes all accidental damage.

You are nuts.

Added it to to homeowners insurance, $27 per year, no deductible, all faults covered, insured for $1000 cash money to cover all apps, and the phone.

Plus, if it breaks/gets stolen in a year, I won't be stuck with having to get old tech, or a refurb phone. I will be able to buy a new phone of whatever new phone is out.

Thats about right. Unless its heavily used.

And whats the plan if something happens to your Tbolt in 2 or 3 months?

Not everyone can be as lucky as that guy and most people do not change their phones every 6 months on Craigs list.

Being in a store I can tell you 1 to 2 people a day come in and have to either go back to an old device or shell out a lot of money for the phone they want. No annual upgrades and NE2 (Thanks Iphone) do not help either.

I recommend the ebay method for folks buying cheaper phones not brand new products.

I have insurance through Verizon. I think it's Asurion, not sure. I don't break my phone often. And if i do, i usually just call VZ and say im having charging problems. Then just get it replaced lol.

Thats a great option if your homeowners will cover. I think a lot of them will too.

Good call on the homeowners, I'll be checking mine out tonight.
Otherwise, I'll be going squaretrade.
As said, 99 for 2 year and includes accidental and immersion.
Knock on wood, never lost or had one stolen.
I've sat on one and broken one a few times.

Too much screen and too new of a phone not to put some kind of coverage on it.

Motorola Droid X (Verizon) --- Excellent Condition - eBay (item 190510093172 end time Apr-07-11 08:42:18 PDT)

Droid X

Droid X with case and extended battery

*****Droid X + Lots of Extras*****

***BRAND NEW NEVER OPENED DroidX**

like new motorola droid x with orig. box and a case

DROID X LIKE NEW WITH BOX, SCREEN PROTECTOR, CHARGER

Just because you are not seeing it, it doesn't mean thats not the street price. If you look at ebay, the auctions on droid x are selling around 200-240 area. Ebay is always higher in price than craigslist so this puts the droid x right on $200 mark.

what would i do if i break it in the next month? ummm lets see... use the $600 i have already saved from not paying insurance to buy a droid x for 200$ or less or get a new tbolt for $450-$500 brand new sealed off contract.

ebay is always more expensive by $40ish and you cannot see the phone in person prior to purchase. Those people going into the store aren't really knowledgeable in their options. You can get any up to date performance android for around $200 (such as d2, fascinate, dinc, droid x, and others.

You'd get a Droid X for $200? If you had insurance you could get your Thunderbolt back for $107. Not sure where the $600 came from when you only would have paid one month of insurance and the.deductible.

Go for it. Like I said if that works for you. I have never had cancer or serious injury either but I have health insurance. Do you put your no insurance money away in a safe just in case? What I am getting at is that is just not a good recommendation for most people. Insurance buys piece of mind but to each his/her own. I just hate seeing people come in with smashed screens or stolen phones with no insurance. Esp younger college kids. Beer and cell phones = bad. Lol.

$107? are you forgetting the deductible? the $600 came from me saving on insurance over past few years since I have never had to pay for it. And if you just wait another month, the price of the Tbolt on craigs will be hitting the $300-$350 mark. Wait till bionic and other dual cores hit, it will be $250. Trust me i know resell values pretty well.
