Who is sticking with their Evo instead of upgrading to Evo 3d?

Is the 3D screen anything like the 3DS? If so, I'll pass...

I was told no one will lose there upgrade. I was told if you were due then they can't take it away but after you use it then you will have to wait 2 years. My account is marked for me to be able to use mine in June. But come Sept I will be on my 10 years so I am not going anywhere.I'll be able to upgrade every year anyway but I am kind of interested in the 3D. I bought the EVO on launch day and I had the TP2 prior to that which was my 1st smart phone ever. I sold my TP2 for 150 it had a small chip in it and Sprint gave me 50 bucks as a one time courtesy credit to resign so the EVO was free. I fell in love with the EVO and to this day it's the best phone ever. I love it so much. And yes I like the kickstand and use it some and now that we have Netflix it's even better. And I know were getting GB on it too but not the full new sense that is what I have read. But I always said the EVO was the best phone ever and I wont need a new phone for a long time. But I've gotten the low disk space message a few times and have either deleted apps or cledared out cache and data alot.

But here is my take on it. If the EVO was the best phone out there and the 3D has better specs than it should be better than the EVO and be the next best phone out there. Yes the EVO Rocks and is the best phone for now and I love it. I don't need to have the 3D and I also like to have the latest in technology. I have an Archos 10l.1 tablet and now with Netflix working on it I am fine with my tablet but I was thinking of upgrading it but I am not now because I decided if I update anything it will be my EVO. I don't think having a 5MP camera over an 8 will be much difference but who knows.I've been told the iphone 5mp camera is one of the best. I have never printed out a picture from my phone. I take pics and upload to FB and that's about it so the camera part won't bother me. I hope the 3D has better video and yes I will miss the kickstand but I will buy the case.

My EVO is perfectly fine right now except for space I am low on space from time to time. I do want the new sense and the new screen how you can swipe and go straight through the screens and it doesn't stop. I don't think the 3D can be any worse than the EVO. No kickstand ok but the only thing that may or may not be as good as the EVO is the camera but we won't know until we get it. If I can sell my EVO and I got lots of accessories to go with it for enough to buy the 3D plus a case and a screen protector and an extra battery then I will be good. But I don't know if I am going to get it on launch day or wait until I read some reviews. I would like to hear from people who owned the EVO and then got the 3D if it was really worth it. I hate my batter life on my EVO and love the fact of a dual processor and more space. So in ways I want the 3D and in ways I don't need it. But I've watched videos of it and think it's really cool. I just hope the battery is better but I've been told the bigger battery is because the dual processor needs it and it may not be any better than the EVO. Guess will wait till it comes out and will see. But I am up for getting the 3D if I can sell mine at a decent price and if I don't I won't be upset cause I still think my EVO is the best and I love it.

i have an upgrade i can use for 6-1-11 so the EVO 3D would probably cost me $200. if i use my upgrade in June 2011, i'll then have to wait 22 months until April 2013 to upgrade again. if i wait, i can pick up the "EVO 2012" in June 2012.

while the new Sense UI and qHD is nice - i'm not sure it's enough for me to burn my upgrade on. from the reviews i've seen on qHD display devices - there is not that much of a difference in real world.

the original EVO is fast enough and i'm not sure what dual core processor will give me in terms of real world. will i really notice it enough to make a difference? i have plenty of memory now - i barely use 10% of it. i have no need for HDMI or 3D either.

i don't want to sell my EVO either because it's a PIA to do so and i want to always keep my last prior phone as a backup in case my new phone gets damaged/lost/stolen etc.

i don't want to upgrade in June 2011 for a marginal jump in tech to then have to wait all the way until April 2013 when there will probably be a good jump in tech waiting for us in June 2012. i don't care that much about the $200 - but i don't want to burn my upgrade for such a marginal leap. if Sprint kept the annual upgrades for Premier Silver i would probably upgrade but that is not the situation.

what am i missing here???????

I don't have a full upgrade until October of next year, and by that time the 3rd EVO will probably be out so I'll be sticking to this phone unless I find myself with $500 to burn on a no contract 3D or something else.

I plan on picking up the EVO 3d (full retail). I plan on picking it up because the specs not the 3D. I know how happy I've been with ny current EVO and the specs on the 3D just look like an upgraded version of what I'm already happy with. Time will tell!

Excellent point. I have an upgrade due in August 2011, but if I do the upgrade, I'm now stuck for another 2 years. If I don't upgrade in August, I'm free to watch for new releases until something absolutely 'calls to me', just like the EVO did.

I hate having to wait for 2 years inbetween upgrades.:'(

Don't forget that you can trade your EVO in at Radio Shack and get the $199 upgrade for $99! I figure that we can still probably sell our EVOs for $150 if not $200 for all those people out there still stuck with Palm PREs who aren't elidgable for another year for an upgrade. But if you don't want to go through all that Craigslist mumbo-jumbo, the RS looks like the way to go! I'm still undecided if I'm going to jump ship so soon. I think I really want a tablet vs getting an updated handset. With my rooted EVO I can wifi hotspot so that my tablet can have data connection all the time. Just have to wait and see how Sprint is going to play out their table offerings. That 10.1 Galaxy Tab is looking mighty fine with it's keyboard dock...

I'm sticking with the original EVO 4g. It's a solid device, I have all the apps that I need and use, and it is a great phone too.

The one thing that really made it work for me was upgrading to a 3500 mAh battery. It's now replaced the iPod Touch as my portable media device. Can listen to music/podcasts/books, watch video, and leave bluetooth and wifi on all day without completely running down the battery.

Before the battery upgrade, I was pretty much limited to email, some web surfing, texting, and phone calls to ensure I made it through the day.

I'd love to see a similar smartphone with better energy management. It will be interesting to see what gets done on that front in the future.

Same as my thoughts. I have yet to use HDMI, I am not sure why I need it. Also 3D on a tiny screen does nothing to excite me. It'll have a faster processor and more memory but why do I need that? My current EVO can handle any app out there just fine.

The one thing that would get me to switch is a big battery life jump although faster processor and 3D probably = less battery life.

Also, 4G not sucking the battery down when on would be something I would be interested in.

What are you missing here? That's easy, if you follow your logic, you are going to be missing out on the EVO 2013!! If you are saying the EVO 2012 is going to be so much better than the EVO 2011 (3D), then won't the EVO 2013 be that much better than the EVO 2012?

Personally I found waiting for new technology to be a PIA. Why? Because there is always something new on the horizon and if you just wait that little bit longer it will be better. But this is a never ending cycle, you will always be waiting.

I got bit by the Palm Pre -- buying something bleeding edge before the kinks were worked out. I have now adopted a 6 months behind the bleeding edge strategy. I got my EVO in January of this year and will get the 3D in January of next year. That gives all the early adopters time to work out all the kinks of the device and for an update or two (or three or four) to come out. Will I always have the latest and greatest? No. But I what I hopefully will have is a solid piece of current technology rather than a POS that falls apart if you look at it funny (Palm Pre).

All that being said, there are lots of tech companies that follow the "every other release" strategy. Software companies come out with releases so quickly that trying to stay with the latest/greatest version is a never ending battle. So by going every other major release they allow themselves time to migrate and adopt a new version before having to start the process all over again.

Certainly to each his own, your mileage may vary, and all those other sayings that say in the end you have to live with your decisions and as long as you are happy that is all that matters.

i have found that skipping the incremental upgrades in the product life cycle works well. in other words - buy every other generation of a given product. buy the Palm V but skip the Palm Vx and buy the Palm TT. skip the Palm T2 and buy the Palm T3.

the EVO was truly revolutionary. the EVO 3D is evolutionary. it's an incremental jump at best. it's like the EVO 1.0 vs. 1.5. the EVO 2.0 will come in June 2012.

Like many on here I will be keeping my Evo I mostly because I don't have an upgrade ready. However I am not sold on the whole 3D movement right now. I plan to wait until next summer to see what the new hotness is, which is convenient since I will be moving then and may need to switch carriers.

Sticking with the Evo until some sort of 4G hits my town. Probably will end up switching to Verizon, since LTE will be here by the end of the year and only one distant Sprint tower has the vastly inferior Wimax.

Keeping my EVO 4G. No need to waste money on mobile 3D and a faster processor that probable drains the battery fast as well. I'm am rooted running CM7, so I am pretty happy except for GPS issues here and there. WiMax needs better deployment!!
