Why can't I download apps or check for an update on my Acer a100 tablet?

[AC Question]

I have time warner cable WiFi and my tablet is connected to it but I can not download apps from Google play store nor will it check for system up date it says error retrieving information from server.
Please help its a gift to my son.

Hi, is your WiFi working on the device otherwise, such as are you able to connect to web sites or YouTube, etc? If so, try resetting app preferences. Go to Settings, Apps, All, tap the three dot menu button, tap Reset Preferences. Let us know if that works.
