Why do most people hate TouchWiz?

Its aesthetically horrendous. Sure it works but it's not exactly pleasing to look at.

Wasted home screen space, RAM hogging, and cartoonish design schemes to name a few nagging problems.

RAM isn't an issue really though for Android. It handles different than Windows. Unused RAM on Android is wasted RAM. :).

This is something I always say to people but everyone seem to ignore it.

Android doesn't even need task killers or manually closing apps (unless crash/bug)

The only thing i don't like about Touchwiz is the app drawer i would prefer mine stay in alphabetical order.

Re: Why does almost everyone dislike TouchWiz? I'm just really really curious...

Ohh, so different launchers can max out the performance of the phone? In terms of performance, is nova launcher better than touchwiz?

Absolutely. I was using "touchwiz" for years, and then I found, after installing dozens of apps, over time, that Touchwiz became incapable of handling things.
I honestly, have NO CLUE why, and also do not care about "why". Regardless, I installed Nova Launcher and it was like having a new phone all of the sudden.
(Sounds like an advertisement, but it is not, because I actually did test a bunch of other "alternative" launchers)

VERDICT: Best decision I've made in a long time using Android and that's a FACT. No more lag! No more slowness!

Re: Why does almost everyone dislike TouchWiz? I'm just really really curious...

These are some reasons why I don't like TW:

  • Connections optimizer is constantly turning wifi on when I don't want it, or turning 4g off when I do want it.
  • There is no option to make the home screen rotate. I know not many people want this but I do and I find it very annoying.
  • I think the UI in general is ugly: Cartoonish, bright clashing colors, Icons that look like they should be in a children's book, etc. I will say that this and the home screen rotation issue can be mostly remedied with other apps. I use Nova Launcher, Google Calendar, Google Keyboard, Swipe Dialer, etc.
  • Cannot customize the quick toggles.
  • Cannot customize the power menu
  • The lock screen is ugly and looks cluttered. And the unlock animation is ugly and rudimentary. Also the unlock action is too easy to do by accident as it can be done anywhere on the screen. The way around that is to use security (pattern lock or similar) but I don't like that because I like being able to use the notifications pulldown from the lock screen and being able to go straight into apps from the lock screen.

I will say that the newer versions of TW look A LOT better than previous versions and also have features that Cyanogenmod has that I've always wanted in TW. But I much prefer CM or even AOSP. Although I will admit that TW has some features that make it better than AOSP functionality-wise in my opinion. But AOSP looks so much better to me and has a few things that TW lacks as well so overall I still prefer it.

I think the VAST majority of SGS users have no idea what Android, Touchwiz, AOSP or anything else is and don't care. I think their is a vocal minority online that hates TW. I also think it would be ridiculously cool of Samsung if they offered the option to use a more AOSP-like ROM for "advanced" users who do want that look and feel. But they would never do that and frankly they're smart not to waste the time and energy.

See, one very big thing people don't seem to mention when they hate on Samsung is that these phones come with an UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER. On top of that, the bootloaders aren't able to be locked by carriers (cough, xperia) because of Samsung. I personally loathe touchwiz, but, a lot of people do like it, and that's the beauty of android. People can have the exact same phone but have it work completely differently. I've been running cyanogenmod since the day I bought my S3; I love Samsung hardware but not Samsung software. So, that's easily fixed by installing an aosp based ROM.

Samsung tends to encourage devs, minus the warranty thing, but the warranty policy is a fair point, these phones CAN be bricked if you do something stupid when attempting to mod (such as, off the top of my head, installing the modem from T-Mobile on a Telus phone)

It is a myth that "a lot of people like it". I have never seen evidence of this in the real world. Never seen anyone who loves Samsung's gimmiky "features" or Touchwiz's ugly UI. Few of them even know what touchwiz is...they just think it's Android.

They like storage and battery and camera and display.

Re: Why does almost everyone dislike TouchWiz? I'm just really really curious...

My history with Android has mostly been with Samsung and TW. My 1st Android in 2010 was a SE Xperia X10i and after its Android OS updates debacle I decided I'd never get a SE/Sony again. In 2011 I looked in to getting a Htc Sensation XE Beats Audio phone, I thought Sense UI was great. It was between the the XE and GS2, but the XE never made it to South Africa, so I got the Samsung Galaxy S2 and within the 1st hour of use I simply fell for TW, it was just so fast, smooth, vivid thanks to SAMOLED display, and so functional and powerful, it had features like a multi item clipboard, a Notes app, a fully functional Doc viewer and editor (Polaris Office), a file manager (My Files) etc...all built-in.

I've gone on to get a GS3 32GB in 2012 and GS4 32GB in 2013, and I'm getting a Note 4 this year. So far with GS2, GS3 and GS4 I have thoroughly enjoyed TouchWiz. I've tried custom ROMs from SlimBean, SlimKat, Nameless, CM, MIUI based etc...And I keep running back to TW, I've never understood the hate for it as IMO it's a great UI.

Now this is coming from a user who used to own the Galaxy S3, a time where large screens were just becoming popular, be aware that i hated at first but too nervous to try again.

At first I didn't care. functioned normally but this touchwiz had a water theme that eventually drove me nuts. I like the new touchwiz but too nervous for what I'm about to say. After a month or 2, I had a horrible experience from lagginess to battery drain. I installed stock android down the road and had a better experience. I guess you could say it was hardware related. in battery options, the screen was consuming the most power, it was a dual core which was worse than single core. (They say QUAD core are MOST efficient now)

Now I know it wasn't a hardware issue because friends told me to just factory reset it & ull be good. & i would do that & it works flawlessly. 2 weeks later, bad battery problems again. I cant tell you the countless times my phone died at the WORST situations. This WHOLE experience has taught me that I needed a phone first & amenities second which was why I bought an iPhone. I don't have the time to keep resetting it & transferring files but needed apps. & the spyware. I think my phone coulda been straight up infected from the lightest of web browsing. I tried everything & had enough

That being said, I am willing to try again in the future. For reliability, I'm keeping my iphone til i graduate. Im too nervous to waste the money again and regret another decision but if I were to get a samsung, it will ONLY ONLY be a Note. beefy battery and 2 processors thats INSANE lol. So come on, I'm sure there's someone else who's been in my shoes.

I had battery drain, lag, random reboots, the phone switching itself off and overheating with my original galaxy note. Since then I've had the S4 and the Note 3 and I've not had any issues with either phone. Both are very stable and perform well.

TouchWiz has never caused me the consternation that it has caused some here. Both my Note 3 and S5 seem just great. ...perhaps I'm just simple, old, or have low expectations.

Any time I briefly try a launcher, and I tried a few without configuring them, I was always put off by the cheap cartoon like icons.
I am sure they can be changed, and I have seen some icon packs that look good in the Homescreen sticky thread, but I will stick with the 4 year old TW icons and the wasted space for now. S5 TW is nicer.

Why is everyone hating on touchwiz and samsung? I actually prefer touchwiz over stock android, and other than Samsung's questionable legal history, what's wrong with their phones? I get that everyone has their own opinion but I never see anyone really hating on HTC or LG for their new phones
Those are apparently the best phones, while the Galaxy S5 is just the successor to the S4, nothing special
