Why do people buy Samsung Galaxy Phones?

Re: Heatbleed Attack wipes iPhones

Considering that I've been using it since 2009 and have never come across malware even once? Yeah, it's a little hard to believe. Sorry.

Lots. Sometimes people give apps bad ratings because they are jerks...for example they think the app should be free. Seen it lots of times.

The highest rated apps are not necessarily the best one. That is true of any app store, not just Google's.

Well let me put it this way, when you search, "Calculator." Do you pick the calculator listed near the top with 5 stars and excellent reviews or do you scroll for ten minutes and grab Super Calculator Plus Pro Advance Deutsche that has a nameless russian or korean developer and has to know all of your personal information for basic addition and subtraction?

Exactly I also don't leave the store until my case and screen protector are on. So I could care less about the phone being made from metal its all about performance of the device to me and the Note 3 IMO is still the best phone available. Its almost 8 months old and still holds it own against the newest round of devices being released.
Touchwiz has proven time and time again to be the laggiest UI on high end android phones.

I read the intro on it, look at the screen shot, and then browse some of the reviews. I do not auto-download whatever has the most stars, no. Though I might look at the highest rated ones first.

I've never been desperate enough for an app that I would just auto-download the first one I come to.

Dozens of videos online. Here's one at random since I don't use youtube. I'll bet it takes at least triple the time for the note 4 to get home opposed to the budget Moto G.

This app has two reviews, both absolutely praising it as though it's the greatest thing since sliced bread to the point that it's suspicious and the screenshots are a direct ripoff of one of the higher rated camera apps.

On an app like that, most people know they are taking their chances. It will look immediately suspicious to most people. Not because of Malware, but because it might be a crappy app. 2 reviews alone is never a glowing endorsement for anything, no matter what the rating...anyone who uses Android knows that. If you are an early adopter, you are choosing to take chances.

The reality is that you will never see an app like that. By the time you get to it, it will already have been downloaded tons of times and have tons of reviews. And if anyone has been burned, they will complain loudly in the reviews.

Most Android malware signs you up for premium text services that you won't see until the end of your billing cycle. That leaves a lot of time for a plethora of people to get at it. Using the same scenario though, that's how a lot of the malware apps I personally saw worked. "Oh, there's this exceptional calculator app, let's say Calculator + Pro that I'd have to pay 1.29 for. Oh, but down the way, here's Super Calculator + Pro. It seems to have some great reviews and it's free!" That's basically how it goes. Sure, an experienced user sees it and laughs. A new user sees a deal to get the same app for free. Now imagine that on a much larger scale like when Guitar Hero was pretty much the biggest cell phone game out and someone released that 6.99 game for free. It had tons of rave reviews because it was the same game and was high up the Android charts for some time... Then people got their bill and saw that they were receiving a bill at $40 a month.

Re: Heatbleed Attack wipes iPhones

Neither have any of the dozens of Android users I know. So it is obviously not that common IMO.

Dozens out of millions--glowing endorsement.:)
So, if these dozens out of millions haven't had any, then it must not be common? j/k :) As long as I have used Android, I have never had a virus or malware.

If you say so...I have never come across anything like that in the years I have used Android. Neither has anyone else I know. I have not experienced your hearsay myself.

Which is most users IMO. Especially in the US.

The app makers cannot control who posts reviews either. So that is something that would show up quickly once people know about it. Users who feel they have been burned (real or imagined) take relish in trashing the app makers in reviews. That is one of the reasons I don't trust the star ratings completely.

Re: Heatbleed Attack wipes iPhones

Most malware are reported on android because it is open to scrutiny by everyone.

Very few reported for ios because ios is like a black hole akin to north Korea where official footages show happy and fully fed people.

Nobody except apple truly knows what is happening inside ios. Don't expect apple to disclose any malware willingly either. False sense of security ios is.

Are you a comedian by trade? Lol.

Re: Heatbleed Attack wipes iPhones

I know two personally who've gotten Malware, I was paying the bill on my girlfriend's when she did. A lot of people see a sale like that and they jump on it. It's only natural. Guitar Hero 4 rated 4 start with a few thousand reviews for 6.99 or free with a couple hundred rave reviews. Yeah, I see no reason not to pick the free option. Maybe it's ad supported? Again, you often don't know til your next billing cycle and to assume that most smartphone owners are savvy when it comes to smartphones is comical at best and I'd ask that you try working at any smartphone retailer for a day and return with the same statement.

LOL, your girlfriend has that much trouble with impulse control?

I don't think most people are as impulsive as your girlfriend.

Samsung makes damn good phones and has very effective marketing. People wouldn't keep buying Samsung devices if they were junk, just sayin'.

I couldn't agree more. The Note 3 is a amazing device and still holds its own against the new devices that were just released and the Note 3 was released 8 months ago. I'm patiently waiting for the Note 4 to be released

It was out of context because you ignored the video and focused on the statement you wanted.

At best, this video proves Samsung is as durable as the iPhone. So all arguments about Samsung build quality are dead. Samsung's cheap plastic is every bit as good as your precious metal body.

I have personally seen many new IPhone's completely shatter from the slightest drop. Also have seen a ton of iPhone's with cracked screens. Most of my friends own Samsung devices and the ones that dropped it hard have never cracked the screen.

I'm not seeing a huge difference in lag on the Note 3. Nothing is triple the time on anything.

This is the problem with anecdotal evidence...you can never tell if it is real or just bias. Thats why I want to see it for myself. If there are "dozens" of videos online supporting your claim, you should not have any problems finding at least one. Right?

That's not really impulse. A 5 star app with tons of rave reviews and I believe the developer even changed his name to something like EA Arts or something... That's a justified purchase.
