Why do people buy Samsung Galaxy Phones?

It's a great phone, I had one for a while and kinda miss it

Everyone says it's too small... I use the Lumia 1520 which dwarfs the note series in general size and even then it's not particularly small and is totally usable. If there were a keyboard replacement I really liked, I'd likely take it as my secondary device for business over my 1020.

I seriously doubt that. It's certainly not true from what I have seen personally.

I guarantee your S4 took better pictures. Especially lowlight.

The Front facing camera was definitely worse though... I can't give a valid camera comparison between the S3 and the S4 though. Neither was compelling enough for me to use as a camera.

I spoke wrong. I meant that the S4 had more lag.

It definitely did initially. That's unquestionable. It improved and got roughly on par with the S3 which is still blown away by other Android devices. It was an absolute train wreck on release though.

I am a #WinPhan meaning I am a WP fanboy, I also like androids and I know they dropped the licences cost to zero and the requirement to have a dedicated camera button in their latest attempt to attract more OEMs. WP is a great OS, so is android, and iOS. The build quality of the S5 is cheap feeling plastic, but like most doesn't really matter because they use a case to protect it, same as the M8. I like this phone, but it really feels slippery in my hand, not to mention small, seeing how my favorite phone is the Lumia 1520.. When I bought this phone the choice was between the S5 and the M8. The M8 won out for two reasons, prior ownership. I liked the M7 I use to own, but hated the crappy S3. I think that US Cellular just bought a bunch of Samsung rejects just to save money, and tried to pass them off as new. Second reason is I found a used M8 that was about $20 less than the cheapest S5 I found.

We weren't talking about WP licensing fees, we were talking about the fees android OEMS have to pay MS for android and how that according to the other poster if they made WP devices they got a highly reduced cost. That is what was being debated not the WP licensing costs ( we all know that is now free for devices under 9")

The S3's lag can be mitigated by forcing GPU rendering of the UI, which anyone can do in the developer optiosn settings. I have seen this first hand. It helps a lot.

I assume this would work on the S4 and S5 as well. It works on any Android phone but is especially noticeable on Samsung phones.

I'll try it on my mom's S4 when I visit this upcoming weekend and report results. My expectations are low though.

I turned this on...have done it in the past but had forgotten about since my 5 month stint with the two iPhone 5s'. I haven't noticed any difference as I don't see any perceptible lag on either device anyways. The devices just feel as fast as a Kawasaki ZX-14R.

It sounds to me like you're making your judgements based off of the material the phone is made out of. I love my note 2 and plan on getting the note 4 if its up to standard with specs and software. I looked at other phones and considered them but none of them do what my note 2 does other than a note 3. I personally like the plastic body frame because it allows me to swap out the battery and change the back plate of the phone by buying many different options different colors and materials without having to buy a case. Also, the plastic doesn't scratch just from sitting the phone on the table like those "premium feeling" aluminum devices you all are mentioning. If you drop an aluminum phone on the ground you can chip it so much that it can scratch your hand while holding it lol.

As far as TouchWiz, many people like it and those of us who don't we change launchers just like everybody else does on whatever phone they buy.

Yeah and that's what angers me about them resting on their laurels and just expecting sales from doing little work they're not bad devices n will do the job but for the money they're poor especially with the price tag mid range quality high end price

I love plastic phones. I use the Nokia Lumia line most of the time. I just don't like low quality cheapo plastic for my phones.

I would tend to agree with OP about the Samsung Galaxy smartphone. Especially when this company is releasing a new model so often, as well as a lot of other products in other categories. They seem to be a little over zealous and to me comes across like gadget spam.

I have a Galaxy Note 10.1, which is a nice tablet. I bought it mainly because I found a used one at a good price, and for the fact it has a stylus for drawing. But I didn't buy it for the "Samsung" name, and nor do I care to jump to the latest version of whatever concoction of a tablet they are offering now. I remember when I bought it, it was still overpriced and the 2014 version was already shipping.

To me, whenever they announce a new model and market it heavily, it makes one feel like the previous one is outdated. I don't like that. Also, I hate the add-on Samsung bloatware apps which ships with their products. And Samsung Kies, don't get me started on that (Windows Media Player is the best syncing solution in my opinion for PCs).

Re: why is the galaxy the best selling android phone?

Aren't other android phones better? And significantly better? Well, two benefits galaxy does have are the awesome replaceable battery and expandable storage. For those two things alone in would buy a phone over phones that don't.

One huge thing that helps Samsung is their advertising. They spend billions of dollars on advertisement.

Samsung is also ubiquitous. They make and sell many products, so everyone knows their name. And if you like their TV, you'll probably like their phone, right? That is the way many people think, and brand loyalty is huge for Samsung.

Their phone's aren't bad phones, but there are many better options. If Samsung could figure out plastic, and optimize TouchWiz, they could be making some of the best phones on the market.

Quite a few flagship phones have an SD card slot, but most don't have a removable battery. But the G3 is going to have one, and since LG is probably Samsung's biggest competitor in the Android phone market, that could really hurt Samsung. People who bought the S5 for the removable battery may no longer be able to justify Samsung over LG.

Not to mention the G3's better features. Better looking, better UI, bigger screen, ect. And just the QHD screen will be enough for some to buy it.

It ultimately comes down to preference, though.

Same thing I was thinking, if HTC made tv's, washers, dryers & refrigerators they could also have the same consumers as Samsung or LG. Same reason so many ppl buy iPhones

Re: why is the galaxy the best selling android phone?

Well, a lot of people here weren't around in this day but Samsung put Android on the map. Prior to the Galaxy devices, the only Android phones anyone knew of were the Droid series under Verizon (HTC and Motorola at the time) HTC's Droid Incredible was laughed at for it's design and the Droid just seemed like a poor contender when paired up against the iPhone. Physical keyboards were on their way out the door. Apple at this point in the US market was strictly ATT. When Samsung had the idea to release a premium device that'd encompass all carriers that they could worldwide it was unprecedented. That's most of what it is though. You buy this phone and you're getting a phone that's one of the high end options on whatever carrier you're on. It wasn't the Sprint exclusive Evo or any other crazy exclusive. They made Android unified and that is why they sell.

Galaxy is more fashion, the quality is good, but i think HTC also very good with less money.
