Why Does It Seem That Android Is Always Chasing Apple?

Siri ---> Google Now
Fingerprint Scanner
32 to 64 bit chip archetecture
Complete integration of cloud backup to OS
Screen resolution -- Retinal displays to what we now see commonly on anroid units

So yes, while it's true that android seems to end up getting it right and (in some cases) surpassing the idea originated by Apple, they NEVER seem to be on the leading edge of this stuff. I have to tell you it's depressing. I LOVE android and I wouldn't use an iphoney if you gave me one for free. But can't android truly innovate and force Apple to play catch-up?

Just once wouild even be nice.

I think it's the other way round

Large screens on Android - iPhone 6
Third party keyboards - ios 8
Notification panel - control panels
NFC on Android devices - iPhone 6
Smart watches - iwatch
Widgets on Android - ios 8

I am sure everybody learn from each other, obviously IMHO, notification panel, widget, multitasking and larger screen outweigh a useless 64 bit cpu or fingerprint scanner any second, any minute, any day.

Big difference is apple is also a patent troll and like to abuse the US patent and court system. Did Sammi sue apple for large screen, for notification panel? Nope.

Large screens has always been simply a design decision. One that android got right as Apple is now tacitly admitting. But not an innovation per se.

NFC is an idea that really has no purpose to speak of.
Notification panel, yes. Thanks for reminding me about that one.
Smart watches is another technology in search of a practical use I'm afraid.
Widgets I will give you. This is a very important and valuable implementation that has long been available on android but absent on iOS.

I think NFC does have a use - mobile payments, however they haven't taken off in a lot of countries yet. However I hear that it is widely used in places like Canada and Russia.

The first device with a fingerprint scanner was not the iPhone 5S, it was the Motorola Atrix in 2010, an android device.

The iPhone 4 was so not the first phone with a high resolution display. The Toshiba G900 released in 2007 had a display with 312 PPI. The sony Xperia X1 released in 2008 had 312 PPI and the Samsung Jet released in 2009 had 301 PPI.

Even voice assistants were not invented by Apple. They were apps available on Android that did similar things before the iPhone 4S was released.

I would argue that the original note was innovative and somewhat revolutionary. It started the phablet category of devices.

I could say similar things about some of the features you pointed out. Google now/siri are somewhat gimmicky, definitely not anything I use or see anyone else use on a regular basis. Fingerprint scanners have been around a while; not innovative and also not the most practical. And if big screens aren't innovative, neither is high resolution.

I think there's obviously a lot of give and take between the two platforms. Which is a great thing. They learn what works from each other and competition makes both better in the long run.

What I think is, if somebody invents something, and the other is now allowed to make something similar to the thing that the first one maid, the technology does not proceed. e.g. Call of duty is a first person shooter. And the battlefield is, too. It's the same for Siri, Google Now , Finger print scanner and .....

This goes for both, a lot of things in ios7 and ios8 are inspired from android, such as control centre, air drop and now the upcoming swipe keyboard, also the bigger screen. It's business, if one company invents then the other company has to come up with something similar or people will call it inferior and refuse to buy it. I would say when Steve Jobs was alive, apple were truly original and invented a lot, but now the ios is slowly turning into a android 2.0

Honestly I think it's the other way around. I was with the iPhone for 5 years and switched to my first Android (Galaxy S5) this April because I got bored with the iPhone being so locked down and the spec's & tech on the Androids were better in my opinion. There's no denying Apple reinvented the cell phone when they launched the iPhone but as time passed it's almost like they got complacent (maybe due to their arrogance... my opinion) and now they are the ones playing catch up. I skimmed the spec's of the iPhone 6 and besides the larger/improved screen, bigger battery, slightly faster processor and Apple Pay/NFC nothing really jumped out at me. They are sill using a 8mp camera and touting features like slow motion video like it's a new concept. The thing that surprised me the most was the body of the phone, it looks cheap and ugly and they still do not offer an SD/microSD slot. I've checked out a few forums regarding the announcement and there really doesn't seem to be too much excitement about it; not like previous years anyways. I'm sure it will be successful but I think the Galaxy S5 still beats it.

After watching all the ooos and awwws I like what the 6+ is bringing with the camera. $350 for a iwatch I don't think so.

Knowing how serious apple is about their cameras, I can only hope HTC blows them out of the water with the m9....now that they can see what Apple has gone with... so I agree with you on that catching up.

That's the only catching up with Apple I want to see next spring.

You are a genius! I'm going to use all this info to mess with my friends with iPhone! Lol

I didn't wish Samsung would copy greater internal storage, not sure why any of the mainstream Android manufacturers haven't been doing this. I'm mean 64 & 128 GB internal storage is impressive.

They do it because most users are fine with 16GB, seeing as it's the size that sells the most.

Google now and siri are completly different.
Last I check android doesn't have a fingerprint scanner.

iphone has smaller resolution.

Wow, talk about a non-event. 4.7" screen? Welcome to the 21st century. NFC purchases? Android has had that for years. So-called "retina display?" Every top tier android phone out there has display pixel densities that dwarf the iphone 6. Sticking with that 8 mp camera? WTF??? But you did manage to put in optical image stabalization...but only in the 5.5" version. Galaxy Note 4 has it too. No sapphire glass. Hmmmm NO micro-sd car slots though I will give Apple credit for packing their phones with anywhere from 16 gigs to 128 gigs of storage. Siri can't hold a candle to Google Now's voice features and Apple's mapping software still lags far behind android's in overall functionality and accuracy.

So there's really nothing to move the needle here to speak of other than the larger screen size (yawn).

Actually the 1st devices that use fingerprint scanners on them were actually laptops and that went back as far back as Windows XP.

Yes, the Note 4 is superior, by most accounts, to the 6+. A lot of android phones have a leg up on the 6. ...but it's good news for the Apple faithful, they're no longer missing out on all of the good stuff.
