Why does my LG G3 screen flicker and fades to darkness?

Kimberly T - I've been dealing with it for several weeks now also. Paper between the the back case & battery/laser/etc seems to work less effectively each time.
Today I started to remove the screws to open up the guts & try the paper inside.
After removing the screws, but before I separated the frame, it suddenly stopped flickering out.
I only put the 4 corner screws back & am watching to see how long it functions correctly before reinserting more.
Things that make you go hmmm.

I am having the same issue with my LG G3. I called support and since it is out of warranty they want me to send it off and they will let me know how much to pay. Given the responses of others, I am going to replace the phone with something new. This seems to be money better spent. It will not be a LG product.

Im from Pakistan having the same problem with my LG G3 855 variant.

I dissembled the motherboard completely and put everything back on and it didnt make any difference. I will probably try the cardboard thing again but it makes me wonder if pushing it down works then isnt it simply some connection issue on the motherboard?

Whats beneath the place where everybody is shoving the card board?

Re: HELP - LG G3 Screen Flickers and fades to darkness

That is the connection for the camera from what I understand.

alright bruvs..LISTEN UP ...whoever has the same problem as it described read this
you gonna fix it without the need to ship to LG or spening money to your service providers
just do this what i tell u
1-make some small folded paper
2-open the lg cover motherboard
3-take the folded paper and put it at camera controller.. its that small space between autolaser and camera
4-close the cover....the paper will push the motherboard and i dont know why but it works
i have only 15 min i did that and im not getting anymore that issue....i will recharge now and hope it will not appear again
i wrote this to help u cus i know your concern about this.. i used to be sad for about 1 month since the problem occured...hope it will not appear anymore.. spread this method so others can know it.. thanks

I'm just trying this out tonight. I had factory reset it earlier while testing. I came across this fix so I'm trying it out. I ran about 4 minutes of 4K 60fps video streamed from YouTube, and the phone handled it just fine. I'm in the process of re-downloading all my apps and setting my phone back up. So far so good - really hoping this solves the problem, but it seems like it's working so far!

I wished I'd come across this before I did a FDR last week. The screen was only one of the sudden onset issues, but this seems to be working - at least for the last few minutes, which is better than anything I've had in the last week. I totally loved this phone until now. I didn't remove everything - like an earlier post, I just put the paper between the laser and camera.

I found one solution after hours and hours of trying different thing . I downgraded from 5.0.1 to 4.4.2 . I am guessing this isnt a hardware issue. This is the only thing worked for me so if it works for you spread The word . hope it works

My android version is 5.0... and I have the same issue;

Can Somebody else confirm that the downgrade resolve the issue?

Hello everyone,

The same happened to me yesterday morning, I've had the phone a little over 15 months. After reading the thread I don't think it's the screen that's the problem like I initially thought. Honestly can't really afford a new phone currently so will probably try and do the cardboard thing, but I've accepted the fact that it is probably a short term solution,

I'll probably also take it to a repair shop too and see what they have to say. I won't be buying an LG phone again.

Turns out I am still under warranty, so i have given it to Vodafone. Hopefully they sort the problem out.

Any tips and tricks to get LG to repair the phone for free?

My phone was sent in and I have the option of spending $146 for part replacement or $153 for a full refurbish.

I'm not very enthusiastic about this and will not be purchasing an LG phone in the future. I am currently using my trusty old Galaxy S3. This is on Verizon.

FWIW If you used a Visa signature card they will reimburse the initial purchase price on the cost of a new phone. I bought mine for $99 on contact and that is the amount that they will contribute to a new phone.

My tip is to point to this thread. I contacted LG via their chat feature and put a link to this thread in there. I told them that I'm not the only one and there seems to be a flaw. They didn't tell me that it would be free but they never charged me.

So I'm having the same issue as everybody here.. Before It happened the cellphone was restarting by itself when I was using internet, snapchat or instagram.. Tried the paper stuff without opening the cellphone because I don't have a small screwdriver but It didn't work.. It lasts more time before it fades with the paper below battery cover

Started happening to me two weeks ago. My G3 is about 14 months old and has been good until now except for the dreaded occasional lag/freeze. Fading grew progressively worse until it would hardly turn on at all. Fortunately I took an extended warranty with this phone so I have it in for repair now. Will let you know how I go.

So I have put a folded paper between laser and camera and at the top of the battery and It started work again ..

Hi Bishop,
I had that same problem initially when I followed your instructions. I tried modifying it a bit by moving the paper to on top of the brownish black box thingy. So far no problems with the flickering and my camera doesn't have any noticeable focusing issues even in lowlight conditions.

Thank you so much for the quick fix! Much appreciated!

Thanks Bishop, working so far for me. My phone started doing this out of nowhere yesterday. Nothing I did seemed to help. I charged my phone all night and when I woke up was able to use the phone for about 10 mins or so before it started acting up again. came across this paper trick and have had no issues the past few hours. I used an inch and a half post it note, folded it over onto itself 3 times (so it was 8 pieces of paper thick) and it fit perfectly between the camera lens and the autolaser. Popped the back cover back on and all good so far.
