Why is my phone call conversation volume so loud when I'm wearing headphones or headset

I have the galaxy s9+ and I just bought a headset to use with my smartphone for phone calls. However, the sound on the other line is way too loud. I've turned down the in-call volume as far down as it will go, but it's still loud. Oddly, the in-call volume does not go completely down to zero like media, ringtone and other call settings. I've tried making a call with earbuds to see if it was a headset issue and the problem still exists.

I've also downloaded the app SoundAssistant but after playing around I don't see how I can directly lower in-call volume with that either.

you can't turn the in call volume down to 0. there is a mute button for that.
and if the volume is still too loud on the lowest settings then maybe the headset is too sensitive? don't know...
