Why isn't the contacts search in the stock dialer working on Android 5.1?

Contacts search in stock dialer not working in android 5.1

Hi. After upgrading from 5.0 to 5.1 on nexus 5 the contact search seems to have stopped working. I upgraded using nrt without erasing user data. Everything else seems to be working fine.

Go to settings, apps and look for the dialer in the "all" tab. Tap on it and select "clear cache". See if that helps.

I am facing the same problem with my nexus 6 after the update. Cleared the cache but the search is still not working. Any other suggestions?

In my apps/all there is no dialer. Im wondering if this is because its a company phone with a google policy app and this ha overridden settings? However, google policy is not new.

I am having a similar problem. After updating the android version to 5.1.1, my dialer app ans contacts stopped working. whenever i receive a call i can see no name or ID, just the number. can't search contacts and when contacts appear the contacts are unresponsive. Any suggestions how to six the problem? every time i need to call i need to type in the number...tried re-importing my contacts and clearing cache dialer app and it didn't work! ( i have nexus 5)
