wifi hotspot

I have an AT&T branded HTC one x, it is unlocked and I am using it with another carrier. I was trying to activate the WiFi hotspot and I keep getting a message that there is a temporary network problem that is preventing the enablement of the hotspot. I contacted my carrier and they said that it is enabled on my account and there is no charge for tethering. Their only guess was that AT&T has some sort of lock for the tethering, since I am not an AT&T customer they are not willing to help. Does anyone have a way to get around their lock? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the advise, I did try it and it worked great the first time... After that It keeps turning off.... I guess I have to buy the full version...
