WiFi only Xoom for $600!! Who's in ?

Im in!!! on the $600 xoom. Now we just need a release date. Hopefully the the two different models release the same day. I would hate to hear that the wifi only model will be released long after the 3g.

That's probably what I'll be doing as well. I'll hold off a bit though until I have an idea of when the WiFi only version will be available.

For sure they will not confirm dates for the WiFi only until the 3G version has been out for a week or two. Costco is a good option for me. I don't see how I can go wrong. I can purchase the 3G unit (even though I do not need the 3G) and if the WiFi only is that much lower in price I can always return the 3G and buy the WiFi on the same day. Well, unless the WiFi is not released within the 90 day return policy. We will see.

$600 32GB Wifi-only iPad vs. $600 for Wifi-only XOOM?

I'm in - XOOM FTW.

You should really be comparing the xoom to the ipad 2 because its most likely coming out in 2 months. Now if apple announces it won't be out until the end of the year then it'll make more sense to compare to the ipad 1

$600 is more like it, sense it is 32gb and the same price of the 32gb wifi iPad. although the Xoom is not as popular as the iPad so they should price it cheaper to compete.

I'm getting the 3G version. The whole idea behind a Tablet for me is mobility, instant access to the web, basically a bigger, more capable version of Droid. While I have a rooted phone with wifi tether ability, pulling out the phone, starting wifi tether, waiting for the tablet to connect completely defeats the notion of immediate access while on the go. I may as well stick with tethering my netbook to my phone.

Now granted, it costs $200 for the hardward plus the monthly fee, but having that capability is worth the $20 a month for me. If I know I'm going to use serious data, maybe I'll look for a Starbucks or break out the tether, but having the data package is what will make a tablet a truly useful device in my opinion.

Thanks for that.

Im really glad that they are meeting the ipad in price. Funds availability has limited me to a Nook Color for a tablet. Im ok with that and glad to have it. Im saving my pennies and birthday gift cards towards next years latest and greatest tech.

$800 or 600, their both too high. With so many Android tablets coming out over the next 10 months, prices are bound to drop. That said, I'm going to Costco the day they arrive. I'll pay my money, grumble a little, take it home and be happy. What ever.

I am gonna stick with the 3G version, I probably won't use it very much but I want to have the option to use it in certain situations.

Conditional in. The real question is when the release is. Alot of people say they're in, but if the release is in Q3 and the market is flooded with other options, I suspect a lot of folks will jump ship. It'd be advantageous for Moto to release it sooner, but I suspect that may be impossible because of their Faustian deal with Verizon.

if both are released at the same time, it will be tough, but i think i might go with the wifi....

if its only 3g, I have no problems buying the 3g....I hear its a free upgrade to 4g, which is great, and I will always have the option if needed to pay for the data on a monthly basis...better than tethering and burning my batteries on my phone...

that 4g future proofing is a genius idea and one that has me sold

If there wasn't a subsidy on the EVO I wouldn't own one.

The retail price/subsidized price on cell phones is a racket, plain and simple, and the XOOM pricing is a perfect example of companies reeling people in. They announced that the XOOM would cost $800 and everyone sighed. Then shortly after, magically a wi-fi only version was announced that costs "just" $600 and most are happy again since it is $200 less. But is it really worth $600 or does it just sound better than $800?

Anyway, early adopters will pay through the nose mostly to boast that they got one and I suppose that's the price you pay for that "honor", but it's a little ridiculous when you sit back and really look at it. There is so much happening in the tablet market that in all reality it's probably best to wait and get a better unit at a cheaper price a little later down the line. There is a difference between being on the bleeding edge or the cutting edge.....I'll take the cutting edge.

Will grab one if it comes out before mid march. If not I'm just gonna keep my nook until summer.

I may be an early adopter - still not sure if I'll get it right away - but, I'm not getting it just to say, "look at me I got the hottest & latest thing" I just want it.

I want a wifi only if they release it soon. $600 is 100 bucks higher than I had hoped but I would still get it. I'm in!

As someone who currently owns an Ipad(I'm a true "Androidonian" and purchased the iPad only because there wasn't anything like it on the market at the time from Android/Google), and have had it long enough to see what it can/can't do. I will definitely be getting either the Xoom or one of the upcoming Android tablets, Wifi- Only as long as they come in at $600 or cheaper. I paid $500 for my iPad and all of the upcoming Android tablets have more that enough better features than the current iPad has for me to pay a $100 difference. The difference for me is the same as why I will never buy an iPhone over any Android phone - the iPhone/iPad not being customizable. So count me in - I can't wait!!!

By the way, the reason why I would choose the wifi version is because I already own a mifi device which has 3G/4G capabilities.
