Wireless Charging, Must-Have or More Trouble Than It's Worth?

I think the whole idea depends on the phone. If the phone was built for it, or it is simply swapping covers and getting a proper charger, fine. If you have to rig something up to get it to work, that does not sit well with me.

I think wireless charging is like a lot of conveniences - if you don't have it you don't miss it. If you had it and then go without it you really miss. I own three cars for my wife and I and the third car is older for use on trips when it will sit in an airport parking lot for a few days in the weather (too far for the wife to drop me off and pick me up) and I really miss the power window, door locks and mirrors on my newer cars. You can manage without it but you really miss it.

Wireless charging is cool in theory. But then you plug in your MicroUSB 3.0 into the wall and your phone is charged from 5 to 100 percent in barely over an hour, or close to 1.5 hours, and you don't miss wireless charging.

This. I loved it when I had my palm pre though.

If you are the kind of guy who is always moving around and isn't near a plug while his phone goes from 100% to 5%, and then you find a plug and need to be back at 100% in an hour and a half, then wireless charging is probably not for you. Of course, in that case, you should probably just go and get a second battery anyhow.

I would venture to say that most people don't fit in that category. Given how long the GN3 battery lasts, I would actually guess that almost no one really fits into that situation.

If you run your battery down to 5% during the day, and then come home at night, a wireless base is plenty fast enough to have it charged long before morning.

But the best use case is for the people who are sitting in a desk for a good part of they day. For those people, its much nicer to just drop the phone one the base for the time when you are sitting at your desk and then pick it up when you get up. Its less wear and tear on the phone, and if you spend any amount of time sitting, you will always be at 100%.

Yeah and if you're the on the go person that can't plug in a wire then maybe wireless charging is just the answer.

I just got my Qi wireless adapter in the mail and when trying to install it realized that the adapter's contacts block the contacts on the Official S-View Case that I have. I'm assuming that the contacts on the case is how the device senses the presence of a smart case.

Anyone run into this issue?

I was able to put the case back on, but the phone doesn't respond as it should when I open and close the case.

I purchased the wireless charging back from the 'shop android' portion of the site. It works very well but it is a new back and the back is noticeably thicker and heavier. I'll probably end up returning it because it is not worth the extra thickness to me. I'm thinking about trying the charging pad inside the stock battery cover now though.
I was big on wireless charging before because it was so much nicer just to have my phone laying on a charging pad while at work that I could just pick up and go when I left my desk. Now that I have the Note 3 though, I don't need to charge during the day at all because the battery lasts all day. Plugging in my phone once before I go to bed vs sitting it on a charger pad isn't a big deal for me and definitely not worth the sacrifice of a thicker phone. If the Docooler really doesn't add any noticeable thickness, I might just try it.

I know what you mean, it's huge. :)

I just purchased the receiver that icnmayhem suggested, but decided to go with the Samsung charging plate.....I'm a sucker for name brand matching. Both have been shipped, just waiting for them to be delivered

Have you gotten the charging plate from Samsung? I prefer the official brand because they always seem to work better.
Your QI adapter, did you decide to keep it or return it? (Saw your recent comment on this thread).

I got the charging plate from Samsung. Having tried it out yet because the wireless charging adapter came today and I'm still at work.

I'm sure it'll work with no problem. I'll report my thoughts.

I debated looking into the wireless charging and decided against it for two reasons:

I opted for a magnetic car dock which required installing a thin metal plate inside the back cover right where the charging plates go - not a good combo with a wireless charging plate :) Amazon.com: InfiniApps Slyde CD Slot Mount for Smartphones, Cradle-less Universal cell phone holder with Quick-snap technology, magnetic cell phone mount: Cell Phones & Accessories

I do charge my phone at my desk a lot but prefer to have it propped up so I can see when as notifications pop up etc. - I have an off-brand dock on the way via eBay: Data Sync Dual Charger Dock Station for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 III N9000 N9005 | eBay

Wireless would be cool but I have to say the magnetic car dock is even better than I expected and well worth the trade-off for me.

Alright so I finally go a chance to install the With adapter and it won't work with the S-View case. There is too much of a noticeable bulge where the two sets of contacts are on top of each other. I ended up going back to my original back. So looks like I'll need to find another case to protect my baby.

I'm using the Samsung branded wireless charger and it works fine. You do have to play with it to find the "sweet spot" but I took me a couple of tries and I hit it consistently.

I'll report back in a couple of days.

It's not huge can hardly tell it's there wtf are you talking about i love my new back and have no problems with it

You must be new on the interweb. The smiley face at the end of my post was a way of showing that I was not being serious.

Hope this helps.

So has anyone found a wireless battery charging receiver that does NOT interfere with the Note 3's NFC (Near Field Communications) for S-beam, etc.? Most of the reviews I have read online seem to indicate reduced range or smaller sweet spot (or no S-beam connectivity at all after installing a Qi battery charging pad).
