With rumored S-Pen support on the S21U, is this the last Note model??

Yeah I seen that, I'm a note user also and I've been saying the note and S series phones are getting to much alike. The S pen is basically the main difference between the 2. There used to be a lot more differences between them, but over the years samsung has been transitioning the 2 to be about the same phone. I personally think they did that for this reason. After all, if you think about it, it will be the same thing if they offer 2 S series phones and a bigger one with the S pen.. It's still going to be the same thing, a phone with a S pen, just in the S series, it will be the premium version.

I speculate the fold phones are going to take the fall launch dates. There will be the smaller version samsung has, can't remember the name, and the Z fold and eventually that will have a S pen.

The part of the rumor that has me more concerned is the talk of no cavity for the S pen in the phone as it takes up to much room, could have a bigger battery. I'll take the smaller battery and keep the cavity for the pen. I'm not interested if the S pen has no place to insert it in the phone for storage.

(Edited) You have to remember since we are talking September...you have arguably the best phone of the year so far release in August. If Note sales are gonna dominate, its gonna be in the first months.

What other 5G phone available in volume is gonna sell better??

And you have deals like AT&T selling the Note 20 for $1000 OFF pre-release! And continues after release.

$300 for my Note 20U! Thank you AT&T:)

I'm guessing the numbers will look very different for rest of year. Samsung reduced number of Notes built in October and iPhone launched the 12 line all 5G... starting at $799. Not $1000 like the S20.

They have become much alike over the years , the S pen is a stand out feature that no other phone can touch what it can do , even if it's the only thing is different , it's a big difference.
I got both series for so many years , finally after s10+ which I still have, I shifted to Note line only .

Just give them their shining moment

I didn't say it was a gimmick. I was asking because you seemed quite sure that folding phones were the future. It's a strange thing because before this, folding phones were a thing of the past and I guess since now a folding phone offered a bigger screen in a smaller package, folding phones have become a hot thing again.

I personally feel it's way too early to tell. This is only the second year but it seems that they they improved the device a lot. I can't get myself used to a plastic screen yet and perhaps they can make it feel more like glass (the inside that is) then I might be more open to it - but that price is hard to swallow. I might be more of a Galaxy Flip guy but then I read that the next Fold may come with an under display camera which might pique my interest. But man, I need to get over the plastic screen..... and the price.

I personally don't like the word 'gimmick'. I think it's typically a word often used when folks find something that they don't need but need to justify it to others. Practically every new feature of the Note is called a gimmick. It's a real tiresome word to me but I understand why people use it.

Folding phones in the past had a hinge in the middle where it folded in view. That is why I think the new folding phones that hide the hinge are the wave of the future. The price is hard to swallow right now as is the price of any new tech, if folding phones take off the price should drop over time, right now it's the early adapters price.

I don't like thbeowrd gimmick either, it's usually a way for people to say they can't afford it, so let's call it a gimmick.

That's not necessarily true.. Maybe they find the phone in their eyes a gimmicky product or whatever!!!

Everyone has a meaning for gimmick. Me, gimmick means a company brags a item can do do something, but in reality it partially works. The fold 2 does not fall in that category...it works as described. For a 2nd gen, samsung did a very good job.

It's funny actually.. 2 years ago, the thought of spending 2 grand on a phone to me, was insane. Even the 1200.00 for my 10+, I met with a ton of apprehensive gritting of my teeth(and a bit of disdain in my eyes toward Samsung, and even at myself).

But fast forward 2 years, and 2 devices later(including the 1500 for the 20U flat out), and you know, at least for me, no, I would not do an S series with a pen(as far as I'm concerned, if they eliminate the note line, and as negative as it sounds, i hope the s series fails massively... Thus my Note love...), but a foldable with a pen.. Not out of the question at all..

I guess the softening up as far as sticker shock has faded, and being that there is much more screen, and the ability to hope that those screens will actually do something they never wanted to do with the notes: get to full on tablet size, while it will fit in my pocket.. With the pen...

For 500.00 more, yeah, I could and would do that in a heartbeat(now I would)! But, I like so many other's, preface that with the big "no pen, no fold, and surely No 2 grand from me!" While at the same time, I can hold off, keeping my past 2 notes, until they get their act together, and do include a pen in a foldable, "with a large battery"....

So I'm actually, at this point, not mourning a potential loss for the Note line, but instead, looking to the future for possibilities..

As far as that term "gimmick", IMHO, when it comes/ came to people saying it about Note features.. I will just say, look at what they called gimmicks on notes 5 years ago, and look at what "gimmicky" features Apple especially and Android devices are now coming with by default, that actually came from Google and others "borrowing directly" from the Note line.. In other words "don't insult those with vision, with an oversimplification and insulting term such as a gimmick"... That's my take at least.

I said get rid of the S Series, and keep the Note lines, just make 3 different sizes on the Note lines.
Hopefully Samsung sees my Post,

P.S
YES SAMSUNG KEEP
THE NOTE SERIES 3 DIFFERENT SIZES, GET RID OF THE S SERIES.
You hear me Samsung.

This my last note anyway. I'm a hold on to my Fold 2 and my note 20 ULTRA until they are done. I had every note they ever made and I'm very happy with these devices.

Any devices I ever get again with be mid-range.

I'm on-board with that thought.

Think they can scrap everything and redesign and have them replace the S21 in two months??

Now that I think of it, Samsung really missed an opportunity here with the Note configuration.

Just like you have Apple with their MagSafe system and the plethora of innovative accessories to come out to make use of the magnets, Samsung could have opened up the opportunities for accessories to use that silo for those that don't want to use the S-Pen!!

For example...

A slim Vape-machine that fits and charges in the silo!! Puff Puff

A laser pointer for when you are doing a presentation with your PowerPoint stored in Dex or when you are bored and just want to pull it out and point at airplanes above??

For those mages out there, a mini magic wand or.. CCW... Conceal Carry Wand... that you can pull out in case of emergencies... Avada Kedavra ... or Expelliarmus... or a simple Wingardium Leviosa when you need to move something around. ;)

So many possibilities lost because of Samsung's short-sightedness thinking, "It only holds a pen." :(

I don't think that was gimmick just first generation that was ok trying get that zoom level

Fair enough. You say tom-A-toe... I say gimmick :p

Boy those ads showing the clarity of that fat man sunbathing at the beach at 100X Space Zoom... Changed photography there :-[ Actually maybe it did... created "scumbag" mode. Lol.

Even at 50x, even though it's ok, I find it a novelty. Very few pics taken with it I'd consider high quality or keepers. Sounds like they are still going 100X with the S21. Let's see how much better they do.

I hope they keep improving on that level of zoom , I like it and understand it's not best quality for pictures but still :)
