Xron-ified Android (alpha 3) - INSTALL THIS!!!!!

Hmm.. I like 'CM_7.1_XRONified_vB2_12142011' as a more polished version overlay to CM7 3.5.

Nice work!

:)

I agree, this is an improved CM7 3.5.

My wifi works better now.

Although wifi still has to be enable at bootup, any way to set it to automatic?

I haven't found it.. although i'm still getting used to 'finding' all sorts of 'stuff' buried in the Android OS!

I know there was an early issue with Wifi 'sleep' settings on the TP.

OK...After experiencing some issues with my rock solid daily driver cm alpha 2.1 setup, I decided to give 3.5 a try. The experiment lasted all of 10 minutes. It was over the moment I discovered that there was zero improvement in video playback over alpha 3.0. Video on those builds quite simply look like a$$. I'm not sure what improvements necessitated the breaking of video playback but for me, the tradeoff is not worth it!
So, on my way back to 2.1, why not give xron a try?
Initial impressions...not good. Strange reboot after falling asleep- weird, but I've read that it is to be expected. So, pressing on... Video playback is much improved!!! While still not as good as 2.1, it is miles better than 3.0-.5. I can live with it, if the rest of the experience is improved.
After throwing on adx ex (bought on 10cent promo) and my favourite thumb keyboard, I am liking what I see.
At home, wireless has been flawless. The kicker will be at work where I am powerless to make changes to the wifi I leech from the fast-food restaurant two units away. Is there any fix for that? Is it a hardware issue with our tablets that cause issues with higher channels or can we look forward to better implementation. of wifi in future rom builds?

Just want to recommend the Android app Wifi Manager. Doesn't solve the problem with wifi, but it makes the wifi problem a little bit easier. I find it's easier to use when you have to 'forget' a network, and then reconnect, etc..

Which version of Xron should I use and why?

I see a lot of versions on the download page.

CM9 is much better than Xron IMO.

ICS is way ahead of Gingerbread and CM9 is surprisingly usable considering it's the first Alpha release. There's still a few bugs but nothing too bad. All the things that I use it for work fine (Wifi, Browsing, Market Place, Games).

I can't see many people installing CM9 and then going back to CM7 / Xron.

Is video playback working?

Not for me it isn't ! I have all six seasons of futurama and then about another 10 random videos on my touchpad.... only 1 music video will play :(

Hardware acceleration is still not up and running in ICS alpha 0. I find that mobo player with the arm 7 codec pack works well for software decoding. Be sure to long press your video selection to bring up the menu. Then choose software decoding.

This has played everything I've thrown at it. Of course, I don't do hi def video on my tablet.

While I have decided to stay with CM9, I have definately found it to be less stable than Xron 3.5. I can live with it as I like what I see with ICS, and will stick it out awaiting future iterations.

However, I will be upgrading my father in law's touchpad this weekend to android ahead of his month long visit to Florida. As I won't be there to troubleshoot, I've decided to use Xron 3.5 for his install.

Someone said in this thread that they had video working using MX Video but only a minute of playback was tested. I'm planning on watching a movie on a plane when I go on vacation so wanted to see if it worked well or not.

I have found MX player to be nearly identical to mono player as far as what it will or will not play either with codecs installed or without.
I have however, come across some anomolies with how it handles the organization of files on the touchpad. In on instance I could reliably get it to play a completely different file to the one I would select.

I have had no such issues with mobo player and so it is my daily driver.

Am I missing the link for Xron's ICS build? I can't find it in his thread over at XDA.

EDIT: Oops, just saw the link above.....lol

I installed xron to get netflix back but for some reason it won't let me remove the phone app like I had before it gets all kinds of errors and it randomly restarts the only thing I miss from the ICS build is the stable google currents.

I installed Xron 2.9 and 2.9.1 today on my mom's touch pad and I too experienced the random reboots. I think I fixed by making a backup in ClockworkMod Recovery, then wiping the partition, the dalvik cache and factory reset. Then reboot the system into CM7 and skip the initial set up steps. After the system loads to the home screen, I reboot back into CWM and go to back up and restore, select advanced restore,, select your most current back up and then select backup data, this will restore all of your settings, favorites, etc.

I haven't tried to remove any core apps like the phone yet though. If I remember correctly, it was a little tricky when I was using that rom, but I think I managed to do it with root explorer.

I hope this helps
